The wealthiest man in the capital was an ancient dragon who had lived for thousands of years. Countless women had shared his bed, yet not one of them had ever conceived his child.

I was the first.

During my prenatal exam, the doctor stared at the ultrasound screen in horror before telling me the fetus was covered in scales, with horns growing from its head and shriveled limbs twisted beneath its body.

The Langford family's real daughter laughed in my face. "Only filthy blood could give birth to something that disgusting. You've completely humiliated this family."

Terrified that the billionaire would hold them responsible, my adoptive parents forced abortion pills down my throat and tried to induce labor early.

And just as they were preparing to kill the baby, he arrived.

Chapter 1 The Monster in Her Womb
My name was Serena Langford, the daughter the Langford family had raised by mistake. After the real heiress, Vivienne Langford, was brought home, my adoptive parents forced me to leave school as punishment for taking her place. They treated me like a servant, ordering me around at Vivienne's every whim. In the end, they drugged me and delivered me to Lucian Ashford, the wealthiest man in the Capital, as nothing more than a body to carry his heir. Rumor had it Lucian suffered from a condition that left him incapable of fathering children. Women passed through his life one after another, yet none ever conceived. But I became pregnant the very first time. Terrified I might escape, my adoptive parents locked me in the basement like an animal. Today was the first time they had finally taken me to the hospital for a prenatal exam. "Eight months pregnant, and this is her first checkup?" The doctor stared at the report, his expression turning grim. "The fetus shows severe abnormalities. There appear to be scale-like formations across the skin, unexplained horn-like growths on the skull, and significant underdevelopment in the limbs. We recommend immediate termination." "What did you just say?" my adoptive mother Constance Whitmore screamed, snatching the report from his hands. "Are you saying she's carrying a monster?" The color drained from her face after a single glance. My adoptive father Gordon Langford leaned over to look. His expression went stiff almost instantly. Vivienne craned her neck beside them, then let out a sharp laugh. "Oh my God, Serena, I always knew there was something rotten in your bloodline. Look at the freak you've made. You've disgraced the entire Langford family." Lucian had once told me the truth about himself. He was not human at all, but a dragon who had lived for thousands of years in human form. Over the centuries, other women had carried his children, but every one of them had been ordinary human babies. He told me that if I succeeded in giving birth to a true dragon heir, he would grant me anything I desired, wealth, power, status, even freedom. I had never fully believed him. Not until now. I stared at the report in shock, a strange flicker of hope rising in my chest, only for Constance's slap to send my head snapping sideways. "You useless w***e. We raised you for twenty years, and you can't even give birth to a normal child." Gordon shot me a cold glare before quietly slipping money into the doctor's pocket. "Arrange the procedure immediately," he said in a low voice. "And this stays confidential." The doctor pocketed the bribe without hesitation. "Get her admitted first. I'll schedule the surgery as soon as possible." My entire body turned cold. If I lost this child, I would never escape this place. I still remembered Vivienne smiling as she once told me that the moment I gave birth would also be the moment I died. The memory made my hands tremble uncontrollably. "Father… Mother…" I forced down the hatred clawing at my throat and lowered my eyes in practiced submission. "Lucian told me his child would be different from ordinary babies. Why don't you call him and confirm it first?" For thousands of years, Lucian had searched endlessly for an heir. If he learned someone was trying to kill his only child, he would tear this place apart. But Gordon refused to listen. "Shut up," he hissed, his voice viciously low. "If Lucian finds out you're carrying some kind of monster, the entire Langford family is finished." They forced me onto the hospital bed to wait for the operation. At eight months pregnant, inducing labor carried enormous risks. But no one cared whether I lived or died. To them, I was only a rented womb with a price attached. And now that this womb had produced a "defective product," my existence had become even more worthless. No matter how many times I insisted this child mattered to Lucian, none of them believed me. "Mom, Dad," Vivienne said lightly from beside the bed, "if Serena survives, we could always sell her off to one of those mountain villages where the men can't find wives. At least we'd make some money back." My blood turned to ice.
