Two - Making an Impression

“Hey, Dee!” my best friend, Corey yelled as I walked towards him the following Monday. Ah, my friend Corey, the best friend God could give a guy. I mean, he was just the best. He’s smart but humble. Funny but has limits, loving but stern and religious---but Jewish. It was a problem for my parents at first, having a little Jew running around our house asking us why in the world we believe in Jesus, but as time went by…they grew to love him like I did; a brother…or for them a son. “Hey, Cor” I returned, grinning like a maniac. I woke up on the right side of the bed today. Reaching him, I engulfed him in a big man-hug then proceeded to greet the rest of my friends, giving out half-hugs and high fives all over the place. We stood by our row of lockers just being boisterous and loud like normal teenagers, not caring who heard what or who was affected by the noise because it was too early for anyone to care. I was talking to Conner, a football jock, who was rambling on about how he was walking with his ‘soon-to-be-ex’ girlfriend of the month, Dana, in the mall when he came across two guys kissing. He was saying how disgusting it was and how he almost went over to them and beat the gay out of them. I laughed at his stupidity and rolled my eyes. “You know, Conner, violence isn’t always the answer. People have been trying that for years now and it still hasn’t worked…” I offered, smiling at him. He was a major homophobe, I think he’s even the one who started the Homophobe Support Group, but deep down Connor was a good guy…that part of him was just really, really deep and it was small; really, really small. I told him to come to church with me but he refused and told me that if God couldn’t remove the homos from earth then he couldn’t be of use to him. I rolled my eyes, remembering the conversation. Imbecile. “Yes, but still, why would they just do that so openly? Flaunting their bloody fagdom! What the hell? No man, there were little kids in that mall and there they were in all their homo-glory sucking face and feeling each other up” he exclaimed, turning a little red with anger. I shook my head. “Feeling each other up? Ew, like what the hell… as in rubbing crotch or as in gripping onto hair?” I asked feeling disgusted. “Does it matter?” he threw his hands up, “They were all over each other! Could you say—” he stopped mid-sentence staring behind me almost in shock. I waved a hand in front of his face. He just lifted a hand and pointed towards the door. A group of people had just walked in, silencing the whole corridor as they walked in dressed mostly in leather. There were girls and guys, all very attractive. The guys were all buff and tall while the girls were slim but bodacious. The group was led by two guys, one slightly taller than the other, both menacing and dripping with danger and masculinity. The taller one was wearing dark jeans with a white tee that clung to his toned body like a second skin, and a leather jacket thrown over it. He had on biker boots and aviator glasses that looked very expensive albeit being half covered with thick brown locks that hung in face. A over confident smirk played on his lips as he walked with his group following him. The guy walking beside him was dressed similarly except he was wearing a black tee and his aviators were rimmed in black instead of white like his taller friend. He was grinning, shifting his glasses to sit in his blond hair to reveal icy blue eyes that held amusement. He sent a few girls winks as he passed them, making them swoon and sigh dreamily. The taller one shifted his glasses up too, making them hold his hair back and revealing familiar green eyes. His eyes scanned the hallway, searching for something before looking ahead again. I gaped at him. I knew him. It was Knightly…the creepy guy from the woods. I gulped. So my fears had come true and now he and his annoyingly attractive friends were going to sweep up all the available girls. Not that I minded, I was in a relationship. But still…I couldn’t help but feel irritated at all the attention they were getting. They were just normal people, not some sort of celebs. I rolled my eyes at them. As they walked past me, Knightley’s eyes met mine and he winked at me. My eye brows knot together in utter confusion. Did he just wink at me? That’s so wrong on so many levels. I knew he was gay. I would yell at him but there would be no point in prolonging the experience. Unfortunately, not everyone thought like I did. “Great more fags” I heard Connor mutter way too loud for my comfort. I gaped at him. i***t. That guy is like twice our size. Why would he say something like that?! The impulsive i***t! I elbowed him in the ribs. I was hoping they hadn’t heard what he said but they did and immediately they all froze mid-walk. I gulped. They walked back to where we were standing…all 15 of them. I mentally slapped Connor for having such a big mouth. They outnumbered us by at least 7 people since there were only 8 of us standing against the locker. As they approached us, all the jocks stood closer to Conner, puffing out their chests daringly. I stood beside Connor, even though he is an i***t and I hoped he would get punched but alas, he was still a teammate and I had to stand up for him. The shorter one came up to Connor and slammed him into the lockers, gripping the front of his shirt tightly as he scowled down at Connor. Connor’s eyes widened nervously. I put a hand over the mystery guy’s one to warn him to let go but he shot me a deadly look and two other guys stepped forward. I removed my hand quickly and stepped back a bit. “What the hell did you just call us?” he asked dangerously calmly. His icy blue eyes seem to turn even colder but his expression was cool, calculating and slightly predator-like. “Uh…” Connor stuttered. I was just surprised to hear Connor stutter. He was always annoyingly over-confident and rude. He didn’t stutter. It wasn’t his thing. “Maybe you want to speak up, asshole” the guy growled through gritted teeth, slamming Connor into the locker again but harder than he did before. Connor winced. “Uhm, listen dude…I’m sorry for what my i***t of a friend said. He didn’t mean it like that. He’s just in a bad mood” I spoke up, trying to save Connor’s ass like I did way too often. “He doesn’t seem sorry” The guy hissed, slamming him into the lockers again, hardly sparing me a second glance. “Trust me, he is. I’m really sorry…please put him down. It’s too early to get into trouble.” I urged. “This will turn ugly really fast if you don’t let go” I warned nervously. I could see the other jocks stepping forward threateningly only to be met with the same move by the guy’s group. I swallowed nervously looking to Knightly in a way that said ‘call-him-off’. “Jaigo, put him down” Knightly said, coming forward and putting a hand on the so-called Jaigo’s shoulder. Jaigo scowled and tightened his grip on Connor. “This little dipshit needs to learn to shut his mouth and not speak about s**t that he doesn’t know about” Jaigo seethed, eyes blazing. “I’m all for it, but not this soon. We just got here, we can’t get into trouble now. We need to be on the DL, okay. Now, put him down” Knightly responded authoritatively. At least we know who top dog is. “Fine,” Jaigo scowled, releasing Connor and straightening out his jacket. He froze for a second, some emotion passing through his eyes too quickly for me to identify it. He recovered quickly and scowled at Conner. He turned to me, making me unconsciously take a step back from his menacing frame. I heard Knightly growl Jaigo’s name in thorough irritation, in response to which Jaigo just cast him a ‘chill’ look with a knowing smirk. “You should put a muzzle on your friend before he gets himself into trouble that you can’t get him out of” he warned lightly, before turning on his heel and going to stand behind Knightly, who moved to stand right in front of me. I gulped. What is with these people and personal space or lack thereof? Knightly smiled at me, “Pleasure to see you again, Damien” he said simply before walking away with his group in tow. I followed them with my eyes till they had turned the corner. I felt my stomach erupt with butterflies….butterflies of fear, I think. I mean, goodness, his very presence just screamed danger and power. “Oh s**t” Connor breathed when they were gone. “What the hell is their problem? And you know them, Dee?” I turned to Connor with a glare. “You have just made us their problem.” I growled at him, smacking his shoulder. “No, I don’t know them! I met the one who stopped you from becoming today’s mince, yesterday when I went for a run. He said I was running on his family’s land” I explained to the rest of the group who still looked shocked. “You run in the woods kinda by the Montgomery estate right?” Corey questioned. “Yeah, why?” “Well, if you were on his family’s land you must have been in really deep in the woods because the only people who live for miles around there live in Blood Moon Manor.” Corey explained, looking worried. “You mean that huge mansion that’s been abandoned for years?” I asked disbelievingly. “Yeah, dude. Those guys must be freaking loaded to live there…and brave. It’s really deep in the woods and far from everything.” “Hmmm,” I couldn’t think of anything else to say. My mind was already in overdrive and it was only morning. Blood Moon Manor was known for its exquisite landscape and view and not to mention the large land it sits on. Rumor has it that it was abandoned years ago after a wolf attack that had killed the family in there. They managed to save a sixteen year old boy but he wouldn’t live there and instead used his parents money to buy an upscale apartment in a big city. He was an only child after-all, so he had all that money to spend on his own. Russell Young, I believe his name was. “Maybe they don’t know what happened” I offered “Dude, that was an international story. It was all over the news for the better part of a year until Russell moved” Corey disagreed, frowning at me “Trust me they know” “There’s something off about them and I want to know what it is” I told them curiously. These newbies had sparked my interest, especially Knightly. There was something about him. “Dudes, we should steer clear of those guys…they look dangerous.” Corey warned nervously. “Anyone who would live in Blood Moon Manor after the attack must be” Corey was right of course but I was curious about these people…. Something was off and I wanted to know what it was… and by God, I was going to find out.
