They didn’t ask her if she was willing. They asked if she could be replaced.Years ago, the Blackwood family made a deal to survive—a marriage agreement sealed with the powerful Vale family to save their collapsing empire. But survival has a price, and the bill always arrives late.Selene Blackwood was never told she was part of the payment.Until the day the contract returned to collect her.But Selene doesn’t wait to be taken. She runs. And in her absence… a new decision is made. Her sister, Amara Blackwood, is pulled into a room where love does not exist—only urgency, fear, and a name that must not change. She is told to become Selene. To speak like her. Move like her. Live like her.To disappear inside her.Because the wedding is already arranged. The Vale family is already expecting a bride. And the truth would destroy everything. So Amara becomes a lie in human form.A bride walking into another family under a stolen identity… with no guarantee she will ever get herself back. Then she meets Ethan Vale.A man built from silence and control.A man who studies more than he speaks.A man who notices when reality is slightly off.At first, it’s small things: a pause too long, a response too careful, a memory that doesn’t align. Then it becomes suspicion. Then it becomes certainty.Because Ethan Vale was never meant to love a stranger pretending to be his wife. And Amara was never meant to survive being seen too closely.Meanwhile, Selene is not gone. She is watching. And the truth she ran from is no longer something she can avoid… because her disappearance didn’t erase the contract. It only changed who is standing in her place. As identities blur, emotions twist, and a dangerous closeness forms in the middle of deception, one thing becomes clear:This marriage was never about love.It was about ownership. And sooner or later… someone will say the wrong name at the wrong time. And everything will break.

Chapter 1
The door shut behind her with a soft click. The sound wasn't loud. Yet somehow it felt final. Amara stopped a few steps inside the room. Something felt wrong. Not because Ethan had called for her. Not because they were alone. Because he wasn't doing anything. He wasn't speaking. He wasn't moving. He was simply standing there. Watching. And that was worse. A long silence stretched between them. Then Ethan finally spoke. "You know what I've been thinking about?" His voice was calm. Too calm. Amara forced herself to meet his eyes. "What?" A faint smile touched his lips. Not amusement. Not warmth. Something sharper. "How strange it is." Her stomach tightened. "Ethan—" "I've noticed something." He took a slow step forward. "Every time someone asks you about your childhood, you hesitate." Silence. Not long. Barely a second. But enough. "Every time someone mentions a memory, you look at them before answering." Another step. "As if you're checking whether your answer matches what they're expecting." Amara felt her pulse quicken. Because those were things nobody should have noticed. Nobody including Ethan. He had always noticed too much. "And do you know the most interesting part?" His eyes never left hers. "You've been careful." Another step. "Very careful." The distance between them grew smaller. "But careful isn't the same thing as perfect." Amara's throat tightened. For months she had lived inside this fear. For months she had waited for this moment. And now it was standing directly in front of her. Ethan stopped. Close enough now. Close enough to make lying feel useless. Then he said it. "Amara." Her breath disappeared. Not because she didn't recognize the name. Because she did. Because it belonged to her. And because Ethan wasn't guessing. He knew. The silence that followed felt endless. "So it's true." His voice was quieter now. "You were never Selene Blackwood." Amara couldn't answer. What was she supposed to say? That she never wanted this? That she never asked to become someone else? That every day had felt like drowning? None of it mattered. Because the truth had already arrived. And it wasn't leaving. Ethan looked at her for a long moment. Then he exhaled slowly. "This didn't start here." The words settled heavily between them. And he was right. It hadn't started here. Not inside the Vale estate. Not inside this room. Not with Ethan finally speaking the truth out loud. It had started three months earlier. On a morning when rain refused to stop falling. The Blackwood estate stood beneath a gray sky. Rain tapped endlessly against windows. Against rooftops. Against stone walls that had protected the family for generations. Inside the study, Richard Blackwood stood by the window. The document remained open on his desk. He had read it already. Twice. Three times. It never changed. Neither did the problem. Across the room, Mrs. Blackwood sat quietly. Her tea had gone cold. Untouched. "Maybe they'll give us more time." The hope in her voice sounded weak even to her own ears. Richard said nothing. Because both of them already knew the truth. Time had run out. A knock interrupted the silence. "Sir." Mr. Callen stepped into the room. Professional as always. Calm as always. Yet even he looked uneasy this morning. Richard turned. "What is it?" "The Vale representatives have called again." The room immediately felt smaller. Mrs. Blackwood lowered her eyes. Richard's jaw tightened. "What did they say?" A brief pause. "They are requesting confirmation regarding the letter sent and to know if arrangements have started." Silence. Dangerous silence. The arrangement. Nobody liked calling it that. Because it sounded cleaner than what it really was. Debt. Obligation. A promise that had finally come due. Richard looked toward the rain-covered window. Then he spoke quietly. "Bring Selene." Mr. Callen nodded. "Yes, sir." Upstairs, Selene Blackwood knew nothing. Not about the calls. Not about the debt. Not about the conversation happening below. She sat near her vanity, brushing her hair slowly. Completely unaware that her future had already entered the house. A knock sounded at her door. "Miss Selene?" A maid. "Come in." The maid stepped inside. "Your parents would like to see you in the study." Selene frowned slightly. "Now?" "Yes, miss." Something about the answer felt strange. Not alarming. Just unusual. She set the brush down. Stood. And followed the maid toward the door. As she walked down the hallway, a strange feeling settled inside her chest. Why will her parents be calling her this early hour? The house felt different. Not louder. Not darker. Just heavier. As though something had already been decided. And she was the last person being informed. She reached the study door. The maid stepped aside. Selene stared at the polished wood for a moment. Then slowly reached for the handle. Completely unaware that everything was about to change.
