Chapter One
Gabbi stared at the ancient mansion that stood in its glory, it was a white washed mansion and had good bones. It had lasted long before she arrived and would be here long after she was gone.
While the lawyer droned on about its historical value and the expensive upkeep it would require, all she saw was a chance in a new country as far from her old life as she could get and a chance to start her own business. All this was possible due to the far-reaching care of a benevolent grand-aunt she had never heard of.
Turning to the lawyer, her blonde curly hair flying in the wind, she looked at the man, he was a small thin man with thin glasses and his lips, in a permanent pinched expression.
"Thank you, can I please have the papers," she asked.
He gazed at her in shock that had been a permanent fixture on his face ever since she'd assured him she was not willing to sell the property, he handed her the paperwork adjusting his glasses as they slid down his.
Gabbi would have laughed but she understood that the lawyer considered a business in Greece suicide but suicide was what she did best, after all she had married a dead beat drunk even after she had sworn not to associate with one especially after her parents death by a drunk driver and when her brother had gotten lost in his cup drinking so much daily that he could hardly tell his up from his down,
She had vowed that she would never put herself in such a situation.
But no! She had gone and married Salvador Martinez, the fairy tale of being a dukes wife had been a lure she wouldn't lie about that so she had forgotten her vow to her self and she married him.She had become duchess Gabriella Lovato Aceris Martinez and subsequently his widow, - not that she was too torn up about it - he could go to hell for all she cared, the moment he was buried she had dumped his memory and his name, she had suffered so much loss with him and she was through losing.
She walked into the house and managed to suppress a whimper, it was beautiful - sure it had some rough spots but nothing a little redecorating would not fix, she could see her future already, the kitchen had a bar where guest could eat, two of the rooms down stairs were too small and would serve as storage spaces the other room would need redecorating and then she would pick one for her personal use and another for an office.
She climbed up the stairs and sighed softly there were a total of ten rooms here and four needed total renovation, the others would be fine with a little touch up, while she made little notes on what needed to be done .

Gabbi remembered the first time she had seen Salvador, it had been on a beach vacation to the island of Balas near the Greek coast.
He had strolled across the golden sand his trunks seated on his waist, chest bare and glistening in the sun, he had been good-looking and charming and I had been intrigued. Salvador had stood around for a while and she had caught random glimpse and then for a spilt second in time, in what she would call the hands of fate at the time our eyes had met, he'd smiled at me, a lopsided grin that I'd come to love, picking a drink from the tray and striding towards me. The closer he got the more she realized he was quite handsome, his brown hair was tousled as if he'd just woken up from sleep his eyes a pale blue making him look warm and inviting.
" I've never seen you before " he said softly and Gabbi grinned in return, blushing slightly.
" I can say the same about you" he laughed and her heart skipped a beat, he looked even more handsome smiling.
" I'm Salvador Martinez," he said softly.
" That a nice name , are you from around here" she asked, genuinely curious.
" No, I'm here on vacation with you" he asked.
" I'm on vacation too, it's a backpacking trip before I go back home" she replied. She didn't tell him she had saved every last penny for this trip because her brother was a cop and a father with a limited income that seemed too personal.
" I see, you like to live dangerously then" he asked and she shrugged.
" Well, I don't confine myself to just one culture. " He laughed leaning on me.
" What can I say, it brought me you and for that I can hardly complain" unable to help herself she blushed, her cheeks burning hot. She was twenty years old and while she wasn't totally innocent, she was not that experienced with dating.
" That's quite a line , do you say that to all the girls " she asked and he grinned.
" Only to those that mean something to me" he replied and she smiled.
" We haven't known each other long enough for that.”
" I'd love to see you more, you are absolutely gorgeous" he replied, and she smiled, the rest of the evening had followed the same vein of flirting and cosy words that she had been unable to ignore. The night ended and she found her way back to her hotel room she glanced towards Salvador shooting him a small smile, he winked as he watched her leave.
That was the beginning of our love story.
It didn't matter what anyone said later she had been determined that she would marry Salvador Martinez and no one would stop her.
The fact that she had been that stupid to fall for his tricks like that, ignoring the warning of all her family and friends who had wanted the best for her for years as he had hit her over and over again even while professing his undying love to her had been unbelievable. But she was better now and she was not going back to that life ever again.
Somewhere deep in the heart of the town a pair of men were tossed out of a bar.
