“So, these things are called beaverslides,” Skye remarked, staring up that the large, wooden contraption. “And they’re used for making those big haystacks I see all over the valley?”
“Yep. They’re also called dereks.” Aaron pointed to the tilted deck. “That’s the slide. The two panels coming off the sides there are the wings, and the back panel they join with to make the box is called the backstop. The teeth there on the bottom are the basket, and that’s what the hay rides up the slide.”
She listened attentively as he described the rest of the parts, including a roofless old pickup attached at a right angle by a cable to the basket’s pulleys.
