"Ma'am? You have to make an appointment if you want to meet with our financial manager" the receptionist broke her out of her thoughts. "oh, yeah Ohkay. How soon can I get an appointment?" "well his schedule is full for today, how bout tomorrow? uhhh...... 10:00am?" "yeah that's perfect. thank you" "no problem ma'am. Alexis David right? from Golden Expectations?" "yes" "and the appointment is for what exactly?" the question was met with a pause. Alexis didn't really know this person she was making an appointment with. But his job was a financial manager so she could come up with something. "To discuss a contract between our two companies" the receptionist clicked in everything and gave her a gentle smile, letting her know that the appointment had been made. With that being done she walked out of the company, nodding at the security men who let her through earlier and headed to her car. When she got into her car she quickly dialed a number and placed it over her ear "Alexis!! where the hell have you been! I just got a call from your job and they told me you haven't been in for four days! where are you?" the loud angry feminine voice came from the other side, it was Alexis's mother. "Mom,calm down I'm on my way to you now" "well better. you have some explaining to do" with that her mom ended the call. Alexis could only give a tired sigh, started the car and drove over to the nursing home, where her mom resided. ************************************************* "Lexi!where the hell have you been!" her mom asked as soon as she walked through the door. "mom, how are you?"Alexis asked instead of answering the question as she settled down on the couch besides the bed "how do you think I am? what have you been up to? and what are all those bandages on your body?" "mom I was in a small accident " her mom let out a gasp and covered her mouth with her hands "oh my......are you okay?.....when was it?"she asked as she moved closer to inspect her daughter "it was on Saturday, don't worry I'm fine" Alexis moved her mom's wandering hands from her face and held her, tears clouded her eyes as she tried to voice out her words "mom,I can't find Jaden,we were both in the accident and now I can't find him"she said, her voice breaking down as she burst into tears. "Jaden?Who's Jaden?" her mom asked. Hearing her mom's question Alexis couldn't help but burst into more tears. Of course she wouldn't know, she has forgotten, like always. Alexis's mother,Belle, was an Alzheimer's patient. She was now in the Moderate stage,of not being to recognize people or remember. She was diagnosed earlier in the year, and had been staying at the nursing home ever since. "oh I'm sorry Lexi...I just don't seem to remember.." her mom patted her back and wiped her tears with a tissue. "it's not you fault mom,it's not"she sobbed. It was a miracle her mom was able to remember her as well. she could only force herself to stop crying and enjoy the little moments with her mother, atleast now that she could recognize her. ************************************************* Alexis left the nursing home in the afternoon when visiting hours ended. She didn't want to go back home but she didn't know where to go either. Her best friend, Ruth, was out of the country for some business proposal and she didn't have anyone else to talk to. She sat in her car, contemplating for a while before a sad smile came to her face. She started the engine, drove to a flower shop and bought bright dandelions and lilies and drove to the city graveyard, where her dad was buried. Getting there, she walked to her father's head stone and sat besides it and placed the flowers right over the headstone. The headstone had the words; 'Here lies our Fallen hero, father and hero,Fireman David Hudson. Forever in our hearts " She traced the words with her fingers as sad tears ran down her eyes. Her dad had died when she was eleven in a house fire. He was trying to save a pregnant lady from a burning house but inhaled too much smoke while trying to find her in the burning mess. He died on the way to the hospital. Ever since then,it was just her and her mom left. She didn't have any siblings, nor any relatives since both her parents were the only children of their families. Her mom had struggled to get her through school. They had to sell the house to take care of bills and they both worked menial jobs till Alexis was able to graduate and get a good job. But now her dad was no longer alive, and her mom has Alzheimer's and could barely remember anything. With that in mind she let out a cry and let the tears flow freely down her face as she hugged the headstone. 'if only you were here things would have been a whole lot easier' she thought as her cries grew louder. Unknown to her, someone was watching her from the distance. ************************************************* On the far side of the cemetery,a man dressed in a black suit and dark shades was looking Alexis from afar while speaking into the phone placed in his ears. "boss, she's at cemetery, she seems to be crying" there was silence at the other end for a while before a deep voice came through "make sure she gets home safe, and make sure you're not seen. She's smart" with that the call ended with a beep. The man on suit waited for Alexis to finish and followed her stealthily, making sure she didn't notice him. He had been following her for days now and it was getting a bit annoying for him. But he couldn't dare to defy orders, atleast not from his boss. With a frustrated look on his face,he watched her get into her car and waited till she droved off a bit before getting into his black car and followed her. ************************************************* The next day Alexis got ready and drove to Skyhigh Enterprise. She made sure to dress more corporately this time around to avoid being stared at. She arrived ex exactly five minutes before the appointment time, she couldn't help but the thankful because she woke up late. She walked to the receptionist and told her about the appointment. The receptionist then directed her to the financial assistant's office on the third floor. "he's waiting for you" the receptionist said with a smile. She walked into the elevator and pressed the third floor button and walked out when she arrived. She saw the door with the words "Financial assistant;Jaden Copey" on it just like the receptionist described and gave a gentle knock. "come in" a masculine voice came from inside and she walked in. The office was moderately big, and had a modern design. She looked at the man sitting behind the desk and her heart dropped. That wasn't Jaden, atleast not yet Jaden. It was someone totally different. "Good morning, please have a seat" the man gestured to the chair Infront of him politely. She settled down into the chair, staring at the man in front of her. "you look quite disappointed, were you expecting to see someone else?" the man behind the desk asked "actually yes. I was expecting to see someone else" "oh. This appointment was labeled as a contract meeting between Golden Expectations and Skyline Enterprises,am I right?" Alexis's eye twitched. That was a lie...she didn't have any contract to represent. That was just a lie she told the receptionist so she could secure this appointment. She knew she wouldn't have been able to if she didn't use such excuse. "About that,I had lied. I Needed to see you to ask questions." Hearing her,he leaned backwards on his seat and folded his arms across his chest. He could only marvel at the nerve of the woman before him. Seeing how pretty and distressed she looked and remembering her disappointed look earlier he decided to listen to what she had to say. "Go on" he nodded "My Fiance,Jaden Newman works here as a financial assistant and project manager,or atleast he used to. So you see I had an accident few days ago and I hadn't heard from him ever since. My phone's been wiped out, he's not at his house and now I'm supposed to find him here but I'm seeing you instead" "You said Jaden Newman?" he asked "yes" the man in front of her frowned and leaned in closer to her. "Did you tell the receptionist who you were looking for when you made the appointment?" "yes I did but she said no one with the name Jaden Newman worked here, only Jaden Copey and that's you" "Well yes, I am Jaden Copey, never heard of a Jaden Newman" Disappointment washed all over her. This was where she was hoping she would find him,but now it seemed like he didn't even exist. "I can give you the profile of staffs that work here though, maybe he's just using a different name" the man spoke up and her face lit up with hope instantly "really? could you?" "well yes,it seems really important. But I have to warn you,we have about two hundred and fifty people working here in general "he said as he stood up "oh I don't mind the stress, thank you " with that he walked out the office and came back with a box filled with files "you could sit in the couch and look through them.ill get you coffee" he dropped the box on the ground besides the couch and she looked at him with gratitude "thank you very much sir" "my pleasure, didn't quite get the name though " "oh mind my manners,I'm Alexis, Alexis Daniel " she said as she handed him her identification card. He looked at the card at returned it back to her with a smile and walked out to bring the coffee he had mentioned.
