Amara
“Amara” heard my best friend Saffron shout as I got off my motorcycle. I looked over at her and waved. She walked over to me
“Hey” I said, taking off my helmet and grabbing my bag from under my seat.
“What's up girl?” Saffron replied. “I got good news.”
I look at her
“What is it?”
“Then university's hot shots are coming back today”
“And who are they?” I asked, not caring who they really were.
“First, you have Luke Smith, the golden boy. He is really nice to everyone. Then you have Diego Sanchez. He is only nice to those he likes, but otherwise he is a complete asshole. Then there is Asher Reeves. He is the biggest flirt out of them all. And lastly, you have Austin Stallard, the university's typical popular bad boy. No one knows much about him, just that he is a d**k to everyone” she says, then adds “they are all so handsome.”
Oh wow, they seem like boring people. I can't lie, I think to myself.
“Oh cool” not interested
“Oh come on, you can act like your not interested” saffi says.
“I really aint interested, it just sounds like they are all jokes to me” I said, with a blank expression on my face.
“I can't believe you!! What would you rather just keep gawking at Jensen Ackles and Ji Chang Wook?”
“Yep” smiles just thinking about them.
“Your unbelievable Amara, you really are”
We started to walk into the university when we suddenly heard loads of cheers. We looked back, and 5 men got out of a truck. Saffi just stands there gawking at the men and I turn around and keep walking, heading to my class.
“Hey Amara, wait up” I heard Saffi shout as she ran to catch up.
“Done gawking?” I asked her.
“Yeah, they are heading inside” she replied. I turned around.
“So they are coming into this building?”
“Yeah they are. Why wouldn't they?” she says, looking confused.
"Oh right, this is the main building, so of f*****g course they are."
I think to myself the name Austin Reeves sounds familiar. But I brushed it off and continued talking to Saffi.
"We should head to class, otherwise we are going to be late" I notified Saffi, as she was too busy in her own little world.
At university, I take architecture as it's always fascinated me, but the downside to it is that I have to take mathematics along with it and I absolutely hate math. It's so boring and I just don't understand it.
"Okay, I'll see you later. I'll head to my class," Saffi replied, then walked away, leaving me in the hallway on my own.
I started heading to my class. When I get there, I go to my usual seat right at the back. After a while, the room gets filled up with students taking their seats, and then the professor walks in. 10 minutes after class starts, the doors swing open and the 5 boys from earlier come walking in with no care in the world that they are late. I looked at them and then looked back at my notebook drawing.
"Why are you boys 10 minutes late to my class?" Mr Tompson asked them.
"There is no reason it just took a while to get here. We are quite popular, so we were surrounded", a boy with dirty blond hair says
I roll my eyes thinking that they are so cocky. Then I felt someone staring at me, so I looked up, only for my eyes to meet with green eyes. We looked at each other for a few minutes until I decided to look at my notebook again.
The boys took a seat in the back corner of the class across from me. The professor starts talking again, and I listen to him. He then asks me a question.
"Amara, can you tell me the three C's of architecture?"
Again, I feel someone staring at me, but I ignore it. "The three C's of architecture are connection, cohesion and changeability." I say.
"What is the purpose of them?" he asks me again.
"For the connection principle, architecture needs to work on connecting the efforts and capabilities of IT with these goals and endeavors. Cohesion also helps to organize the systems in a way that promotes sensible partitioning of functions and responsibilities, such that simplicity and flexibility are increased, and lastly, changeability is the last focal point of architecture. It is the capability of IT to adapt to changes in business goals and the environment quickly. Changes disturb the connection between business goals and IT capabilities, and they might disrupt the Cohesion in within IT." I replied.
"Very good Amara", the professor praised me.
The other student clapped, and I could still feel someone staring at me choosing to ignore it still.
The rest of the lesson went by in a flash. At the end, I started packing up my things so i could put them in my bag and take them home. My phone buzzes on the desk and I look at it, seeing it's a message from my sister.
Isla - Mom is having seizures again. I don't know what to do.
me - okay isla ill be back as soon a i can
I put my phone in my pocket and grabbed my bag and rushed off towards my motorcycle. I put my helmet on, started it up and drove away, heading home as fast as I could. 10 minutes later i arrived home, finding my mom still seizing. I got her into a recovery position and waited for her to get round. A few minutes later she stopped seizing and started slowly coming back around.
"Mom, you okay" i asked her.
She doesn't reply, just blinks, trying to focus. a few minutes later she is fully back with it. I ask her again.
Says softly "You okay mom? You had seizures. I'm not sure how many, but Isla messaged me saying you were having them.
"im okay. Don't worry". I helped her get up off the floor and helped her to the living room.
"Okay, I need to go back to uni. Isla. Message me if she has anymore, I think she won't as she has already had a few, so" I told her in a serious tone.
"Okay, see you later" she says softly.
"Bye guys, I love you" I said as I started heading out the door.
10 minutes later, I'm back at university, and I am going to find Saffi. I see her talking to a few other people I know, and I start walking over to her, but then someone steps out right in front of me.
"Can you get out of my way" I asked, annoyed as I looked up to see who it was, only to find that it was the boy with green eyes from class.
"No" he replied sternly while looking at me. I took a few steps back, so I'm not too close. He adds "are you amara Rabello?"
"That's me. Who are you?" I asked, confused that he knew my last name.
"It's me, Austin Stallard" he says.
"Sorry who? I don't know you. And how do you know my last name?" I replied coldly.
"You don't remember me, huh? So I'm the only one," he says sternly, but I saw pain flash through his eyes for a split second.
"I don't, so now, if you excuse me, I need to go," I replied, not interested in speaking with him. And then I walked off towards Saffi with one question in my mind. How does he know me?
