Good Morning.
Summer is a tricky devil. When you're stuck in school, you long and wish for the dreadful, hot, humid season to go away and never come back, winter seeming so sweet, and yet so far. But, as soon as you enter the school year, you want summer to return, and marry your daughter so that everyone could be happy together, and your daughter wouldn't marry that bad boy named "Fall". Seriously, how is Fall ever going to get a stable career, let alone raise a child! My point being, school just started and I want to die.
Slamming her notebook shut, June through it on to her bed and gave out a long, painful sigh. She didn't bother writing the date next to the journal entry, knowing that time isn't real and just a figment of imagination. It was seven o'clock in the morning, and school was about to begin. June usually used her time travel to prolong the summer, but she realized that, life isn't fun if you just relive the same day over and over again. Honestly, June hadn't arrived to school in years.
She never had to, considering technically she didn't miss any days, but continued the same one for an astronomical amount of time. June eventually understood that one day she'd have to stop this endless loop. And, she did. Today was the day. Time for an education.
Oh, by the way, yes, June has the ability of time travel. She doesn't know why, but she's grateful.
Throwing on a typical school uniform, consisting of a skirt, thigh highs, and a white button up, complimenting her navy blue blazer, June dashed out the door with a piece of toast in her mouth, like any good Japanese school girl would. But, June wasn't a Japanese anime girl. But instead, a foreign exchange student from Wisconsin, spending her days in Osaka, Japan.
Learning Japanese was the easiest part, but fitting in was a different challenge. In Japan, you most likely wouldn't see many Americans, but ever since J-Pop became a trend, the island was being assaulted by all cultures pouring in at once. It was amusing to watch the initial shock in people's eyes once they realize you are, indeed, not Asian.
It was fun for a good while, but June didn't blend in with everyone else. Life gets interesting when you stick out like a sore thumb. Constantly. All the time. If only people new how interesting June really was. She kept her secret under wraps, but the thought of someone finding out was always in the back of her mind. Which is silly, because June turns back the clock. No one would ever notice if a day repeated. They would have never had memories of that day. So, why does June always think about it?
Maybe she was afraid that evil scientists would break into her home, steal her, and do experiments on her like all evil scientists love to do. No, it won't happen, but even if it does, June can always go back and do the day over again. Maybe ninja kick the doctors in the face. Yeah, that's what you get for messing with June Kim!
In a way, June is immune to life. Never having to die, never having consequences. Soon, living life won't be living anymore, but instead, just continuing on, whether or not you choose to continue with it.
Getting distracted by her own thoughts, June snapped out of it and walked the rest of the way to school, munching down the rest of her dry bread, regretting not putting any jam on it. She also realized that she forgot to brush her teeth. Instead of going back in time, June just decided to pop some minty gum in her mouth. Time travel is something she has, but that doesn't mean she uses it all the time. Just for emergencies.
And yes, not wanting to learn in a boring, old classroom is an emergency. A very serious one.
June stepped in front of the courtyard, and in an instant, butterflies filled her tummy. This always happens, no matter how many times she goes to school. What if she's changed over the past few years she has repeated the day?
August 15th, 2017. August 15th, 2017. August. 15th. 2017.
Today was August 16th, 2017, and June was shaking in her shoes. There were faces that she vaguely remembered, but overall, couldn't put a name to them. Walking though the hallways seemed like an easy task, but it was haunting for June. She couldn't even remember where her class was.
How long was I gone? She thought as June maneuvered the maze of high school.
Don't do it. Don't go back. I can do this. I know you want to, but listen, I have to finish high school. Sophomore year won't be so bad. And to think, once I get out of here, I can drive and do adult things. Alright.
June wasn't just getting lost in her thoughts, but also in the halls. She continued to think.
Why have I been gone so long?
June kept walking.
Do I remember my friends?
She turned the corner of the hall and continued, looking down.
Oh, that's right, I have none.
As soon as she glanced up, June saw a boy right in front of her. It was too late, and she bumped right into him. June fell to the ground from the impact, and just laid there. The embarrassment of falling was enough, so June ignored everyone and made herself comfortable on the floor.
This is why I have no friends. I enjoy chilling on dirty floors.
"Hi," An unfamiliar voice said above her. It was that boy.
"Hello," June said in her best casual voice. Whatever that was.
"Do you need a hand?" He asked, holding it out to her. June sat up from the ground and grabbed his hand, letting the boy pull herself up. She wiped off the dust from her blazer.
"Thank-" June looked at the kid for the first time, and forgot how to say 'thank you'. The words were taken straight from her mouth. He was flawless. With perfect pale skin, and a voice that made June want to punch herself in the face.
He smiled at her. Oh, that smile. The boy had the nicest lips she'd ever seen on a male. June took in a deep breath and flashed an awkward grin. She didn't mean to, but June was always awkward, especially now.
The bell rang and students filled the hallways suddenly. The boy said his goodbyes and left June standing in the swarm of pubescent, sweaty teens. One of them crashed into her, knocking her down just as the mystery boy did.
But, again, she didn't bother getting up. And decided it was best to let the stampede kill her. Because, even after meeting that gorgeous boy, there was still one thing that June had been dreading, keeping her from wanting to go to school.
