The Agreement
I was under the rain, overly drenched, standing hopelessly at the estate gate with the thoughts to take to my heels and run away from this place that seems no more like a home to me. But the thoughts of nowhere else to run to kept eating me up, but I couldn’t take it anymore.
I was there shivering, holding onto a waterproof bag containing my doom. A marriage contract, I was forced to sign by my father a couple of days back betrothing me to a monster in exchange to redeem the legacy of my family from being destroyed.
I kept on having the flash of the desperate cry of my father popping up in my mind.
“Please get the contract signed, this is the only means left for us to survive. “You’re the only lifeline we have Cynthia, please do this for the sake of our lovely family” he kept on begging.
I held the folder firmly.
Summoning enough courage within me, I reached out for the doorbell and pressed it hard with pains and agony within me. The bell rang enough that I heard it at the estate gate. A couple of seconds later, the gate quietly opened and standing before me was a tall, huge and muscular man dressed in dark suit, with his glittering eyes like a cat. He looked so scary and intimidating. Without saying a word, he stepped aside expecting me to enter.
I was terrified, but managed to swallow the saliva in my throat and quietly entered. I heard the sound of a door shut behind me, and I became more afraid.
The walkway looked so huge with different works of art, and lit with one monstrous chandelier with the floor gleaming of beauty. The atmosphere was not giving a welcoming aura, with a great fear within, a fear of the unknown.
After a few seconds, I was standing in front of an intimidating figure who owns the edifice, Damian Nicolas a billionaire whose source of wealth is shady.
My Husband, My Abductor.
This is a man who is known for his ruthlessness, an offender, a trafficker and a owner of the biggest cartel in town. He is known to engage in so many illicit businesses through which he built his name and empire.
He is tall and intimidating with broad shoulders and a deep voice, with fiery eyes that commands, just like a beast waiting to devour. After a while, he spoke “so you’re the girl that was betrothed to save your father’s shame” and started laughing me to scorn
“ I didn't demand for this” i muttered
Nicolas turned back and answered in a fiery voice, “you wanted this and your father wanted this also”. He was raging and I could see terror in his face. I was terrified and wanted to run, but there was no place to run to.
“ I agreed to sign this contract all because of my family and nothing more”
He made a move towards me and out of fear, I stepped backwards, but since I couldn't run, I had no option, but held onto my dear life. He came closer and weaved through my hair and gently rubbed my skin, I felt a strong resentment towards him.
He roared, “you will become my betrothed wife soon”. I swallowed hard at the hearing of this, my heart started beating fast. “Why me”? I muttered.
Nicolas’s gaze was on me and was so fiery and intimidating and cold at the same time. I panted and gasped for air.
He drew my ears close to him and whispered into my ears, “ you're the most perfect pawn”. On hearing this, tears started rolling down my cheeks.
I became more furious, scared and angry, while he maintained his calm and dominating personality. I knew I was in for something I couldn't explain or imagine.
“My P.A Luther will take you to your room”, he said. He beckoned him to take me to my room and show me around too.
“You need to rest Cynthia, you have had a very rough day” Nicolas said, in a wicked manner. He laughed without conscience and disappeared out of sight with the thoughts of my new life and home consuming me. I was stranded and all alone to my thoughts, with no liberation in sight. Mr Luther came to take me to my room. “This way ma'am”, he said and for the first time in my life, I felt like a prisoner who was taken to her cell. Immediately my room door shut behind me, I felt empty, lonely, depressed, with my world crumbling right before me.
I am trapped.
Alone.
Betrothed to the beast himself, Nicolas.
But one thing that kept bothering me is who Nicolas is. The fear, the terror, the agony, the pains associated with his name kept on ringing bells inside of me. I couldn't hold back my
tears, because I knew I was trapped already.
