They were preparing for the arrival of four other royals. They were going to have her cousin Joan marry a Royal from a close kingdom. She would become a duchess. “Queen Charolette, I am glad I have found you. We have a man claiming he knows you in the garden.” Charolette tilted her head. “Well show me said individual.” They rushed to the garden. Charolette wasn’t prepared for the man in front of her. She had never taken on an affair, though she had known her husband, had many. “My Queen. I wish for your pardon. I was sent to verify the horse arrangements.” Charolette waited for his eyes to meet hers. She stood in silence for what felt like forever. When his eyes met hers the green shone off the sunlight. Her breath was stolen from her chest. The man was the most handsome individual she had ever seen. “Would you like to accompany me there to go over the arrangements?” The servant that had brought her there turned, “would you like me to accompany you?” Charolette shook her head, “I can trust the stable man. We won’t be too long if everything is cooperative.” “Then I will dismiss myself.” The man held out his bent elbow and she took it. He had muscles from being a working man, unlike her husband who was rotund. His face gave her the feeling they had met before. When they turned the corner, he pinned her to the wall. “My Queen forgive my boldness, but I have never seen someone so beautiful before in my whole life.” She let the words register in her ears. “Kiss me.” He blinked twice as if verifying the sound that came from her. He nodded then pulled her face closer and devoured her mouth. Charolette was blushing as heat filled her body. They broke apart when they had heard a noise. Charolette tensed. She knew very few walked this path. She grabbed the stableman’s hand. She began running toward the stable. “My Queen, why are you running?” She took a deep breath. “If someone sees us we will be killed.” He nodded while rubbing his neck. “My Queen you worry for me?” “You can call me Charolette, when no one is around.” “You can call me…” “Cousin Charolette are you in here?” Joan’s voice came from the entrance. Charolette straightened the over sized dress. “Joan I am, we are going over stable preparations.” She walked in and paused as her eyes landed on Charolette. “Has anyone else passed you?” “No just you. The stable man and I travelled here.” Joan walked closely and rubbed around her face, “you have never been one to take on an affair. If you are to, you need to be more careful.” “Dearest cousin, what do you mean?” She sighed, “do not be dishonest. Your makeup is smudged. I can’t blame you. The man is Devine.” Charolette had a panicked look. “You will not tell?” Joan giggled, “you have way more information on I. I will always protect you.” This began the affair. Charolette often found him in the stables, but the King had since then moved him up in rank. He had saved the Queen from an attack. Technically it was his fault that her dress had been ripped.she blamed crying on the makeup she wore being smudged. “Good evening, noble knight.” He knelt down, “good evening my Queen.” Joan was currently visiting the castle,”Darian it is nice to see you out of the stables.” Char noted the snicker. “He had saved me in the woods after all.” Joan leaned into her cousin, “I bet he had saved you many times in the woods.” “What would you be implying, Duchess Joan?” They all looked back to see the King’s guard, Edward. He was a tall man with threatening gray eyes. He was a little older than them. He had Gray showing in his full brown tangled hair. Charolette had never liked him and didn’t know why her husband kept him around. “Well, you must not know Queen Charolette well. She is quite clumsy and curious. I imagine that she has been in similar situations in the woods. Since he is her main knight now.” Charolette breathed a sigh of relief that Joan was better at her than lying. It was true the stable man was now her personal knight. Charolette felt slightly nauseous. “Queen Charolette, would you agree to that statement?” Charolette’s head snapped up, “indeed, I am a clumsy adventurous soul. If you do not mind General Edward, I am feeling all of the sudden under the weather.” “Oh cousin are you feeling ill?” Edward gave a squint to her and Darian. Out of no where Charolette started to faint. Darian was quick though and caught her before she hit the floor. “Charolette.” Edward peeked up at Darian, “very formal for a new knight.” Joan stood to her full height, “Edward, as a duchess and the queen’s close relative, I say what just happened warrants policies to be thrown out the window. Now if you will not help Knight Darrian. I suggest you move so he can take the Queen to the infirmary.” Edward sidestepped. “I will notify the King.” Charolette found out she was three months pregnant. The problem was the king had been constantly traveling and making treaties. It was more likely his mistresses would be pregnant than the queen. Another mistake was Darian held her hand while in the infirmary. What sealed his fate was that while in the dungeons, Charolette had her cousins attempt a break out. No one was caught except Darian. He was malnourished and could not escape. His last words were in apology to the Queen. Charolette had to hold her head high as they beat Darian almost to death for a week. When his death was confirmed, she didn’t leave her wing of the castle for a month. She had fell ill soon after, losing her child and eventually her life. Well until her aunt returned and extended it.
