Chapter Ten

1679 Words
“What happened to that woman? I mean, how did she die?” It was too much for me today, but I know that I had to pull my grip, and to keep myself calm. This place is something. In just two days of our stay here on this island, two of us had already died. It should not be happening, but it is happening right now. These were not natural deaths, they have been killed, and we both know that. I was just wondering how Luna had seen that. “I don’t know. I just saw it. On the screen of my- I mean your laptop.” Luna came back to her bed with my laptop, and the first thing that she did was to type again. Two laptops were open on her bed, one is mine and the other is hers which she said has a virus. I am on my bed, watching her do her thing which I always do, as she is the only one who has something to do. I was here to relax, take some videos for my vlogs, but it didn’t happen, so I am here, and my hobby is to watch what she does, which I never knew what she was doing on that laptop. “But where were you earlier, when those two people entered?” “Just outside this room. I don’t know where to go. And I told you it’s not safe outside.” She said, while she’s still looking at her laptop. She didn’t even dare to glance at me for a second. I wonder what she’s really doing there. She just really loves hacking because she doesn’t even want to be disturb. “Did you hack every camera inside this building?” I was just wondering, because she said that she had seen her on the screen, and told me that she was dead inside her room, so maybe she had hacked every single camera here, I bet that was too much work. I think there are like sixty rooms in this three-storey hotel or more than that. It’s another thing that I am really wondering about. This is a private Island, and this is the very first time they had opened to the public, but this building itself has so many rooms. Maybe the owner of this island has a very large family, or is always inviting his family and friends to stay here for days. “I didn’t actually hack every single camera here. I just hacked the main connection of those cameras.” Oh. Alright. That answers my question very well. She’s really that good at hacking, because she hacked that. I suddenly wanted to learn that myself, that would be so cool. “By the way.” I suddenly remembered her saying something earlier from the outside. “Did you just make what you have said earlier? You said there’s someone who was looking for them in the lobby.” “Yeah. But someone’s really in the Lobby earlier. I just made a little story so they can get distracted, and it somehow worked.” I’m really so impressed with this woman. She really knows everything. “I was watching you earlier and I heard them talking about the other witnesses. And I happened to see the other witness inside her room. I was just watching until I heard and saw the man being triggered with something so simple, so I made a move to save you.” There was silence in the room after I had asked all the questions that I wanted to ask. We both just stayed silent, and I don’t know what other things I should discuss with her. The sudden quietness makes me think of the things that had happened and we experienced on this island. I need to distract myself. “I heard that we can already get out tomorrow.” I hugged my knee as I am sitting on my bed, facing her, as my eyes are glued on the laptops in front of her. “It’s our last day here tomorrow. I just hope something bad won’t happen.” I saw in my peripheral vision that she’s looking at me, so I also looked at her, but there was something in her eyes that I couldn’t explain, again. “Llaine. That something bad had already started.” I know. I was just hoping that it won’t be just as bad as the past days of our stay. Her gaze went back to the laptops in front of her, and started typing again on my laptop. “But, what are you doing there? You have been typing something ever since you sat there.” I couldn’t hide my curiosity again. I just can’t help myself not to ask, because she was so busy there, while I don’t know what I should do myself. I feel so useless. “I am looking for some escape route.” Escape route? It’s so out of the blue, Luna. What are you really planning to do? “Why do you suddenly need an escape route?” “In case we were trapped here. We need to be prepared at all times, Llaine. I told you so many times, it's not safe here." "About that. Why do you always say that it is not safe here? Ever since we arrived here, you’re already saying that.” “Because It is true. Just look at those two who had died in two consecutive days. They are killed by someone. And that alone already supported that Llaine.” She’s right, and always right. Those two were killed brutally. They even told me that they already interviewed the other witnesses, but in reality, the other one was already killed. “Where’s Quinn?” She looked at me for a second and then back to what she’s doing. “Why?” “He’s also a witness. If the other one has died, it means the two of us might be in danger right?” She sighed, stopping what she was doing. “I didn’t know that you were so slow to pick up Llaine.” Wait, is that a compliment? I think it is not, because it hurts me a little. Well, I am not defending myself, because I am really slow when picking up things, but I am not stupid. As long as she don’t say that I am stupid in my face, I won’t be so hurt. “The moment they entered the room, you must already know that you were in danger. Why do you think they were looking for you? Hours had passed since the first death, but they never looked for you to answer their questions for their investigations, which I bet they didn’t even do. But then, they came looking for you so suddenly, and even wanted to be alone with you.” Is that how she gets mad? Well, I already saw her getting angry earlier, but she just spoke a little and then went out. But now, I feel like I am with my Mom, with the way she’s speaking right now. “Well, Quinn is just fine. He’s already sleeping.” How could he sleep so soundly with this kind of surroundings? There have already been two deaths, I bet he still didn’t know about the second death, but he still must be aware of the things that are happening around him, especially now that both of us are in danger. “Is he with Ace? He should be awake to look out for any danger if Quinn’s already asleep.” “Ace? He has his own room. But Quinn’s roommate is awake.” “Ace has his own room?” “Yes.” He must be so lucky to have his own room. But I am not jealous of that, because after what I have experienced, I am lucky to have Luna as my roommate. “Didn’t you know?” Luna looked at me, like she was studying my expression. “Know what?” My brows made furrows, as I am also looking at her. I got curious with the way she asked me that. “Ace is the Son of the Owner of this Island.” “Wait, what?” Did I hear it right? How amazing is that? I had read from somewhere that the owner of this island was so rich when I was researching about the Island a few days ago, but I didn’t even imagine seeing the actual owner of the Island, I mean even if he's just the Son, he’s family’s still the owner of this incredible Island - but the deaths are not included. “You really didn’t know.” She said, while shrugging her head. “He said he hasn't been here for once. That’s why he grabbed the chance to be here, without letting his father know.” “You must be really close with each other, as he’s telling those little details of himself to you.” I saw a glimpse of a bitter smile on her face. It was just for a second, but I still caught it. “He’s my ex-boyfriend. That’s why I know.” She still loves him, and that’s for sure. I just don’t know why I became nervous after she said that. This might be because I could feel that she’s really hurt. “Do you know what time the airplane will be here to pick us up? It should be at night right?” To change the mood of the room, I need to change the topic. Because I am really missing my home, that’s the first thing that came to mind. “That’s another reason why I am looking for an escape route.” “I don’t get it.” “I heard from him that there won’t be a flight going back to the City.” “What? You mean we’re stuck here?” “Probably.” And you’re still so calm? What the hell?
