When Ethel Haynes woke that morning she did not think she would be proposed to by a gorgeous man. She did not imagine that she could possibly say yes to this proposal. It all started that morning, after one phone call.
After a night of drinking alcohol, which she rarely did. Ethel got tipsy and had to be partly dragged home by June.
When she woke up the next morning she had no idea where she was. She knew was in a bedroom but it wasn't her bedroom.
It took a while for her foggy memories to clear up.
She remembered being held by that man last night.
She remembered the words he whispered to her. She thought about his mouth and desired to be kissed by him.
The more she thought about him, the more her body became excited.
For the first time in close to a year she felt the urge to touch herself. She bit her lower lip, parted her legs moved her fingers down to her slit. She was slightly wet.
That's when someone banged on the door. It was June. "Wake up Ethel. Join us for breakfast. " She called.
Ethel got up and left the bed as fast She could. A little part of her was feeling embarrassed.
"Why was I thinking of him?" She asked herself out loud.
"Who were you thinking?" of June asked
"Nobody." she denied
"It's him again right?" His name is Adriel by the way. Fair warning, he is the most eligible bachelor in this city.
If you get him, all the unmarried and most married woman will hate you."
" Right, he did mention his name to me last night. I can't believe I forgot. "
June looked at Ethel for a few seconds and said nothing.
"what, do I have something on my face?" Etgel asked.
"No. I just want to know what you and Adriel got up to last night. And before you deny being with him you should know I have a witness. " June lied.
There was no witness but Ethel couldn't possibly know that.
"Nothing happened. I just bumped into him when I came out of the bathroom. We had a few words and you came looking for me."
June gave Ethel her "I don't believe you look."
"How do you know him anyway?" She asked. "Is he famous or rich?".
"Try both." June answered.
"He is a billionaire you know. He owns the LeMidrand hotels. Probably has other investments as well that we know nothing about. And look at him. The man is over six inches tall, wide chest, tight abdomen and those lips." June went on explaining to Ethel about all the best qualities of Adriel.
"The most wonderful part of it all is how he stepped up to raise his nephew after his brother's death."
"Which sane woman would not want such a man Ethel?" June asked.
"He is arrogant, insufferable, unlikeable and a tease. That man knows he is handsome and he takes advantage of it." Ethel said.
"Oh come on, Ethel. Most beautiful women behave the same way."
"We all want others to notice our attractiveness. It's not a crime that his brand of handsome is out, loud and proud." June defended Adriel.
"Fine, you win. He is the most amazing man on earth. All women will die if they can't have a piece of him." Ethel said in exaggeration while laughing .
"Just shut up and eat your breakfast. " June said.
"Where is your husband by the way?"
"It's 10 a.m Ethel, some people actually have to work at this time. "
"Right, speaking of work what are we going to do about this situation?" Ethel asked her friend.
"We can start over, get a loan." June proposed.
"I don't have any more property left June, no legitimate bank or sane individual would give me a loan."
"Welllll."
"Well what June?"
"I know one person who can give us a loan of up to one million dollars."
"Tell me who it is and I will knock on their door before the day is up."
"You asked, and I hope you better mean what you just said."
"Out with it June." Ethel shouted and jumped up.
"It's Adriel. And before you ask how I know I can you sure it's not a coincidence. I kind of work for him."
"Look out the window Eth. All these apartment buildings belong to him as well. Like I told you. He is rich. Very very very rich." Ethel continued to stay silent.
"Eth if you really want us to go into business we can ask him for help. I can assure you that he is a good man. We just need to present a great business proposal. " June continued to say.
Ethel still stayed silent.
"Now I am convinced I am talking to myself. Ethel honey you need to say something."
"I can hear you June. I am just processing the shock. You never said a word when we met him yesterday. " She remembered all the things she had said about him and gasped. She pointed at June and said " You let me say all those things about him. "
June laughed at Ethel and asked "How do you feel about kissing him now?"
Ethel smugly answered " I haven't changed mind my mind about it."
" I think you are still hung over." June said.
"Just go take a bath, wear something pretty and follow me to his office. If we are lucky we will have that cheque before the day ends."
Ethel nodded her head and proceeded to follow June's instructions. She chose to wear a tight red length dress. Her deal closure dress she called it. She always got a yes when she had it on.
"My oh my." June exclaimed when she saw Ethel. "Are we asking for a loan or a date?"
"No June, we are asking for a million dollars. We need all the advantages we can get." Ethel replied.
June drove them to LeMidrand Hotel where they proceeded to go straight to Adriel's office.
There was a fifty something old woman sitting at a desk outside the office. "Hey Betty." June greeted.
Betty looked up, smiled and told June to go straight in because Adriel was expecting her.
They both entered. "Hello ladies." he greeted them with a smile on his face and a little bit of mischief in his eyes.
Ethel looked down and rolled her eyes. Adriel still noticed her little actions. He had been watching her from the moment they stepped into his office.
"Hello Alpha." June responded. "We need tour help."
Noticing that her friend had yet to say a word, June pinched her arm and whispered "say something. "
Ethel coughed to clear her throat and said " Hello Mr. Kang, we are here because we need your help."
Her words came out a little stiffer than she intended. Just what was it about this man that made her lose her confidence.
"Take a seat and explain." he said.
Ethel stared at him. He looked exquisite in this charcoal black suit. He occupied his chair like a king on a throne. He seemed so confident and poised. "Truly a rich man." Ethel muttered.
"My business partner Ethel and I started a business but met a hiccup along the way. Now we are need of financing and we have a proposal. We need a loan of one million dollars. That's why we came to you."
Adriel drummed his fingers on his desk and listened to June explain the proposal.
In his mind, he was thinking of something else entirely. The woman he wanted to marry needed money.
He had something she needed desperately. He had a reason to bring up marriage now. From the information June's husband Justin had given him, Ethel was single, had just moved into town and was officially broke.
Justin had vouched for her though. He said she was a good woman. Adriel trusted Justin's opinion.
"Why haven't you said anything? He asked Ethel.
"From what I can tell you are the doctor so the business depends mostly on you doing a great job."
She looked at him and confidently replied "You have seen my resume, my work speaks for itself. My experience along with the business plan we have presented should be enough to help you make a decision. "
While she appeared to be confident when saying all this, Ethel was shaking.
They really needed the money and her overly confident like attitude would not help.
"Would you excuse us June?" Adriel said. " I need to talk to your friend alone."
"Yes Alpha."
When June closed the door, Adriel stood up, got closer to Ethel and said "I have a proposal of my own."
Ethel's heart beat a little faster. "Don't come so close she said."
"Don't worry, I won't bite." he said. "Not yet anyway. " he chuckled.
Ethel pointed at him and tried to say something back but nothing came out of her mouth. Its like her tongue couldn't move anymore.
"I can you the one million dollars free of charge. No collateral needed. You just need to do something for as well."
Ethel was excited when she heard she could get a million dollars free of charge. Her excitement died a little after he said she would need to do something in return for the money. Nobody gives out a million dollars for free after all.
"I am not a prostitute and I don't smuggle or sell drugs." She answered.
Adriel laughed.
"What kind of messy thoughts run through your head?"
"I don't want any of those things. What I want is simple." He moved back to his chair, pulled out a black box and placed it infront of Ethel.
"Marry me." he said.
Ethel was speechless. Of all things she expected him to ask marriage was not anywhere in her imagination.
"Are you crazy?" She asked. "How can you ask a stranger to marry you?".
She laughed out loud. He must be playing a prank she thought.
"I am serious." he said. " I want you to marry me. I have looked into you. I know what kind of family you come from. I know what you wore on your first day of high school.
I know when you had your first kiss."
"Hold up, you did a background check on me!" She exclaimed.
"Are you crazy?" She asked in a loud voice.
"I am not crazy, just desperate. I need a wife and my nephew needs a mother. Our marriage would be contractual. I give you one million dollars and you marry me for two years."
"You need the money Ethel, we would both be getting what we wanted." In his head, Adriel thought to himself "we could both get some great s*x out of it as well."
Ethel continued to look at him like a crazy man.
" I will make it two million dollars. I can sign the cheque right now." and he actually signed it and handed it to her.
"All you have to do is say yes."
Ethel looked at the cheque. She thought about the fact that she was now broke. She thought about her dreams of owning her very own cosmetic surgery business. She thought about how disappointed her parents would be if they found out she had been conned out of all her life savings.
She gripped the cheque a little tighter. She wondered if she would be a fool for doing something selfish for herself for once in her life.
She was drowning and he had just extended a rope to her.
Shocked enough herself, Ethel heard the words "I will do it." come out of her mouth.
"I will be your wife." she repeated.
"Great." Adriel said and pulled out some paper work from his desk. "You just need to sign here."
