yujin's pov
Azriel pulled up and opened the door. “So, here we are, Britany. If you need a tour, Pier or Dave would be happy to show you around.”
Britany only murmured “thanks.” She got out of the car quiet, and Dave led us to our room. The whole time she wouldn’t look at me. That silence was already driving me crazy.
Once the door closed, I tried again. “Britany.” Nothing. “Britany, please answer me.” Still nothing. Then a loud knock hit the door.
“Come in,” I called.
Sebastian walked in, eyes scanning the room until they landed on her. “I see you have company. And she’s human. You brought her to Vaisca.”
“Yes, so what?” I said, stepping between them when he came closer.
“Who is she to you?” he asked.
“My mate,” I said. My voice came out hard. “You don’t—”
Sebastian cut me off. “Oh, she doesn’t talk? And is she always this angry and unhappy?” He walked toward the balcony like this was nothing.
“Actually, she talks a lot and she’s always vibrant,” I snapped. Because she was. When I didn’t ruin it.
Sebastian didn’t even turn around. “So…”
“I shouted at her when we were coming to Vaisca,” I admitted, the words tasting like ash. “And she hasn’t said anything since then.”
He finally looked at me. “Is there anything you need from her? Just get another woman. Or don’t tell me you’re in love.”
“You’ve never encountered love,” I said quietly. “So how will you know how it feels to be rejected?”
Sebastian shook his head. “I can never fall in love. Not even the slightest.”
“Not until you find that one in particular,” I said.
“Only time will tell,” he shrugged. “Enjoy your stay here.” With that, he left.
Britany was already on the bed when I turned back. She still wouldn’t look at me.
“Britany, I’m sorry,” I said. She turned her head slightly, just enough to see me.
“No, I should be the one sorry,” she said, voice breaking. “I never knew asking you questions was unbearable to you.”
“No,” I said fast. “Something just made me react. I didn’t mean to shout at you.”
She sat up, tears already falling. “No, maybe having me here is unbearable. I can just leave if you want me to. I spoilt your perfect life.” She was screaming and crying now.
“I’m freaking sorry, sorry, sorry,” I kept repeating. The words felt useless.
“I can’t really believe you raised your voice at me,” she whispered. “What if you had hit me?” Something in her snapped. She rushed toward the door.
I moved faster. I held her waist tight and lifted her off the floor in one move, setting her back on the bed. “I will never try to hurt you,” I said, voice cracking. “I don’t know what—” I dragged my hands through my hair, frustrated with myself.
“You don’t have to hurt yourself,” she said, watching me.
Tears were dropping from my eyes now, and blood was running down my forehead. She bent down crying. “Yujin, stop tugging at your hair, please. There’s blood dripping from your head.” She kept crying harder.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered. “Why do I keep apologizing? Please stop crying. It doesn’t hurt, I promise you I’m fine.”
She calmed down a little. “No, Yujin. There’s blood on you. And don’t think I regret coming with you.”
“I can heal it,” I said. I closed my eyes and let the vampire in me do its work. In seconds the wound closed, no trace of blood left. But the guilt didn’t heal that fast.
