25 It had been nearly twenty-four hours since I had left the house in Italy. I had been in constant use of my angelic power and it drained faster than I was used to. I hadn’t seen any sign of Nathaniel and I changed trains three times and hopped on a ferry to make it to where now the signal was the strongest, the Shetland Islands. The northernmost chain of islands in Scotland was rugged and wild. I expected any minute to see a Neanderthal man stroll by. The only Shetland I had ever known were ponies and I hadn’t seen any of those either. I compelled the ferryman to drop me on one particular island, which he warned me was uninhabited. I had lost my pack in the train station, and ate only a few snacks on the train. My workout clothes and long thin jacket were doing nothing to keep me warm
