“Useless,” she muttered under her breath before saying, “If you did in fact experience a weakening of signal that can only mean the ring is behind this point so we will retrace our steps. I have narrowed it down to two likely places, here and here.”
She pointed to two of the small orange stickers on the map that were mere inches apart. “This one is the highest peaks in the region. This one,” she pointed to other orange sticker, “is a network of caves that runs for miles underneath the ground. I think these are the two most likely locations, but that is why I have you, Evangeline. You will lead us to the location regardless of where I think it might be.”
I swallowed a lump in my throat. I really didn’t want to do this, but I had tried and continually failed to come up with another option.
