Prologue
The branches bend, twist, and writhe in ways that one would instantly deem unnatural. The wind no longer whistles. Instead, the gust lifted the leaves, dirt, and fine gravels around me; swirling them upwards. The smell of petrichor overwhelmed my senses.         Gulping as much air that my lungs could intake, I laid my icy, shivering hands on my chest that was heaving up and down rapidly. The bitter taste of betrayal intermingled with the saltiness on my lips, leaving such an appalling taste in my mouth, my reflex is to retch.         My grandfather. And Errol.         How could they?! Have they gone insane?         Tears began to mingle with the rain that soaked me thoroughly. The wind hollers his darkest secrets into my ears, wanting to share in my moments of anguish. It never crossed my mind how much he must have hated me until then.         Where do I go from here?         The first thought that crosses my mind is to leave and never come back.         Yet, how can I stay away? When it's him that I love. And Marcellus is all that I have left.         The thought made my stomach churned, and it did a triple flip.           My already crushed heart was pumping extra harder as a sobbed crawled its way out of my throbbing lips, the kiss he once laid there. I clutched the railed for support just as the lightning flashed, thunders blared in time to see the looming figure that had been watching my every move.         “What do we have here?” A deep voice rumbled out of his chest.         Panic got hold of me once more, and I was about to dash under the rain when he grabbed my arms and slammed my back to his chest.         “No one gets away from me that easily, Carla,” he hissed, then started to lick the side of my neck.          I trembled at it not long before my reaction kicked in. But no matter how much I struggled; I couldn’t push myself away. He was too strong! My fragile, weak body could not possibly fight his manly, inhuman strength.         “It won’t hurt one bit,” he murmured. His sharp-edge fangs then pierced my skin, and all I could do was gasp.
