Shadows at dusk

Sofia woke up looking unusually happy as if life was just perfect for her. “A new day, a chance for a new life and a new beginning” Sofia shouted. A few seconds later she burst out laughing knowing how ridiculous she sounded. Being optimistic was definitely not her thing. She recalled the video she watched on YouTube about how waking up optimistic makes your day much better. She just felt like fooling around a little. She got off bed, she almost fell because she was a bit dizzy. She went into the restroom and got ready for her first day at SHADOW PINE ACADEMY and she was extremely unexcited about her first day. She knew she was going to miss her old city and REDWOOD her old school and Alice her best friend. She went down to meet her breakfast already set up for her. “Must’ve been mom “ she thought. She was wearing her new uniform, a black skirt , grey shirt with white socks and a black shoe. After eating she went to the living room looking for her mom, her mom was watching a movie on Netflix “stranger things”. Her mom said it was a horror but Sofia watched it and wasn’t in the least bit scared. She was always fearless, since she was young she would play with insects most girls would run away from, like spiders. “Mom let’s go I am ready. It wouldn’t be okay if I was late on my first day.” Sofia said . “Now that’s the spirit Sofia . Get in the car, give me a second” her mom replied She got in the car few minutes later her mom got in and started driving . On their way there was a sign that said – shadow pine academy 16km away. They had about 15 minutes before they get there, Sofia was certain they would make it on time. They finally got there . The school is huge, dark, a bit scary looking even. But Sofia was just staring at her phone. Her mom escorted her in and took her to the principal’s office . The principal Mrs wicker was a woman with a very happy personality . She welcomed them and Sofia’s mother handed her over to the principal , kissed her on the forehead and left. “ so Sofia, hope you are excited to be joining us” Mrs wicker asked. “ Not really “ Sofia said without looking up from her phone “but I heard it was your decision to come to our school, I promise you’ll like it here very much. Let’s take you to your class ,shall we?” It was her second year of high school. Inside the school was big but dark she kept wondering why it was so dark even though it was bright outside, and cold even though the sun was shining very brightly outside. She didn’t think too much about it though. Her class, her locker , cafeteria card everything was given to her. As she walked down the hall everyone stared at her. Probably because of her hair, it was a glistening grey color and nobody had the same hair color as her or at least that she knows of. She didn’t care at all, she dropped her stuff in the locker. And headed to class for first period- ENGLISH, her favourite subject. Before the class started she sat on her seat close to this girl with pink hair( obviously dyed) she was a jovial girl and was laughing with the girl in front of her. “Hi, I am Stephanie, you’re the new girl right?” the girl asked. Sofia didn’t reply. “Hello!!” Stephanie persisted “I am Sofia” Sofia said casually. “Not a talker ,are you?, nice to meet you then “ Sofia smiled briefly. “I like your hair, is it real?” The teacher came in at exactly that moment and saved Sofia from having to reply to that question. “We’ll talk later”. Stephanie whispered. The class started. After two periods with Stephanie, Sofia was eager to go to the cafeteria for lunch. But unfortunately Stephanie offered to eat with her. Stephanie’s friends even joined. Sofia was going crazy, couldn’t she just get some alone time . One of Stephanie’s friends a tall dude reminded her of her boyfriend back at willow hills. She started to miss him. Stephanie talked about her favourite teachers, snacks, cars , she practically spoke about everything related to her. After a long day, Sofia was picked from school by her mom. Immediately she got home she slept a little. When she woke up she got a text notification, she smiled thinking it was Alice or Brian( her boyfriend) but the number was anonymous. She opened the chat and saw the most shocking picture in her entire life. She stared at the picture as tears fell from her eyes. She felt like dying .
