the boy with the guitar
The city of Crescendo slept beneath the towering Harmonic Wall, a structure so massive that its peak disappeared into the clouds. Every child in the city grew up hearing the same warning: never venture beyond the wall. Ren Arashi never liked following rules. At sixteen years old, Ren spent most of his days helping his grandfather repair instruments in a small music shop near the city's center. Violins, drums, flutes, and guitars lined the walls. Though business was slow, Ren loved every moment of it. His favorite possession was a crimson guitar hanging above the workbench. It had belonged to his older sister, Akari. Five years earlier, Akari had vanished during a Dissonant attack outside the city gates. No body was ever found. No answers were ever given. Everyone assumed she was dead. Ren refused to believe it. One stormy evening, while closing the shop, a strange sound drifted through the streets. A melody. Soft. Haunting. Familiar. Ren froze. It was Akari's song. Without thinking, he grabbed the crimson guitar and followed the sound into the darkness. The melody led him to the edge of the city where an abandoned watchtower overlooked the Harmonic Wall. The moment Ren reached the tower, the music stopped. Silence. Then a monstrous roar shattered the night. A Dissonant emerged from the shadows. Its body twisted unnaturally, covered in black armor-like skin. Its face resembled a cracked theater mask. Ren stumbled backward. Fear gripped his chest. The creature charged. Instinctively, Ren struck the strings of his guitar. A burst of blue fire erupted from the instrument. The flames raced across the ground and slammed into the Dissonant. The monster screamed. Ren stared at his hands. He had never used Resonance before. The fire wasn't normal. It was music made real. The Dissonant lunged again. Before it could strike, a silver blade flashed through the air. The creature collapsed. Standing atop the tower wall was a girl carrying a violin. Moonlight reflected from her silver hair. "You awakened your Soul Melody," she said. Ren tightened his grip on the guitar. "Who are you?" The girl stepped down. "My name is Yuki Nocturne." She looked directly into his eyes. "And if you want answers about your sister, you're going to need to become a Maestro."
