The Bride Who Disappeared
Three years ago, Elena Vale disappeared fifteen minutes before her wedding.
The entire city had watched the wedding of the century unfold.
Adrian Cross, the youngest billionaire in the country, was supposed to marry Elena Vale, the only daughter of one of the most influential families in the city.
Hundreds of guests had gathered inside the Cross estate. Cameras waited outside the gates. Reporters crowded the streets.
Everything was perfect.
Except the bride was gone.
Elena stood alone in the small dressing room, staring at her reflection.
Her wedding gown was flawless. Ivory silk fell around her like a cloud, and the diamond necklace around her throat had belonged to Adrian's grandmother.
But Elena couldn't see the beauty anymore.
All she could see was the photograph lying on the table.
Her hands trembled as she picked it up.
There were two people in the picture.
Adrian.
And her father.
They were standing outside a private building three nights earlier.
On its own, the photograph meant nothing.
The message written beneath it meant everything.
If you marry Adrian today, he will die before the week is over.
Elena's breath caught.
She had spent the entire morning trying to convince herself it was a lie.
Someone was trying to frighten her.
Someone wanted to destroy the wedding.
But then her phone had received a second message.
Ask Adrian what happened to Daniel.
Daniel.
Her older brother.
The brother everyone had told her died in an accident two years ago.
Elena slowly sat down.
For the first time, doubt entered her heart.
What if Daniel hadn't died?
What if the accident had never been an accident?
And what if Adrian knew something about it?
A knock sounded at the door.
“Elena?”
Her father's voice.
She quickly hid the photograph beneath a folded piece of fabric.
“Come in.”
The door opened.
Her father stepped inside, dressed in a dark suit. His expression was unusually tense.
“You're late,” he said.
“I needed some time.”
His eyes moved toward the table.
“Is something wrong?”
Elena stared at him.
For a moment, she wanted to ask.
Where were you with Adrian three nights ago?
What happened to Daniel?
Why is someone threatening Adrian's life?
But fear stopped her.
“I'll be ready soon.”
Her father smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes.
“You've always been a sensible girl.”
He stepped closer.
“Whatever happens today, remember that our family comes first.”
Elena's stomach tightened.
Why would he say that?
Before she could answer, her phone vibrated.
Another message.
She looked down.
Leave the estate now. Trust no one.
Her heart pounded.
Then came a fourth message.
Not even Adrian.
Elena looked toward the door.
Outside, she could hear the wedding guests laughing.
Music played softly through the corridors.
Somewhere beyond those walls, Adrian was waiting for her.
The man she loved.
The man she had promised to marry.
The man she suddenly wasn't sure she could trust.
Her father walked out.
Elena waited until the door closed.
Then she stood.
She removed the diamond necklace.
Then her earrings.
Then the veil.
One by one, she placed them on the table.
Her wedding ring was still in its box.
She couldn't bring herself to wear it.
Elena changed into a simple dress and pulled her hair beneath a plain cap.
She took one last look at herself in the mirror.
Her eyes were filled with tears.
“I’m sorry, Adrian.”
She picked up her phone.
Then she walked out through the servants' corridor.
No one stopped her.
No one saw her leave.
At exactly twelve o'clock, the music began.
Adrian Cross stood at the altar.
Tall, composed, and dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit, he looked like the man the entire world believed he was—untouchable, confident, and completely in control.
But his eyes remained fixed on the entrance.
Waiting.
Five minutes passed.
Then ten.
The guests began whispering.
Adrian's jaw tightened.
“Elena?” he whispered.
Nothing.
His mother approached him.
“She'll be here.”
But another ten minutes passed.
Still nothing.
Adrian took out his phone.
He called Elena.
No answer.
Again.
Nothing.
Then the wedding coordinator rushed toward him, pale with panic.
“Mr. Cross…”
“What?”
“We can't find her.”
The words struck like a blow.
Adrian's expression hardened.
“What do you mean you can't find her?”
“She isn't in the dressing room.”
He turned toward the corridor.
Within minutes, the estate erupted into chaos.
Security searched every room.
Her family was questioned.
Guests were asked to remain inside.
But Elena Vale was nowhere to be found.
Her phone had been left behind.
Her wedding gown remained hanging in the dressing room.
And on the table beside it sat the unopened wedding ring.
Adrian stared at it for a long moment.
His face was unreadable.
Then his fingers curled into a fist.
“She left me.”
His mother shook her head.
“There must be an explanation.”
Adrian looked toward the empty doorway.
“No.”
His voice was quiet.
“She made her choice.”
By sunset, the story had spread across the entire city.
BILLIONAIRE'S BRIDE DISAPPEARS BEFORE WEDDING
By midnight, Elena's name was everywhere.
Some called her a runaway bride.
Others called her selfish.
Some claimed she had found another man.
Adrian said nothing.
He simply cancelled the wedding and disappeared from the public eye.
Three days later, Elena was officially reported missing.
No one knew where she had gone.
No one knew why she had left.
And no one knew that, while the entire city searched for her, Elena was already far beyond the city limits.
She was sitting alone on a train, staring through the window as the lights of her old life disappeared into the distance.
She held one thing tightly in her hand.
The photograph.
And beneath it was a handwritten note she had found hidden inside her father's study.
Five words had been written across the page.
Adrian was never the enemy.
Elena's eyes widened.
For the first time, she wondered if she had made the biggest mistake of her life.
But it was already too late.
She had disappeared.
And Adrian Cross would never forgive her.
Not even when the truth finally came out.
