THE LOVE THAT BETRAYED
EPISODE 1 – The Beginning of Something Unexpected
By Blessing U.
The morning sun shimmered softly through the dusty streets of Emerald City, painting the air gold. It was one of those peaceful mornings when the world felt still—except for her.
Ella.
Her skin glowed like cocoa under the sun, her black hair brushing against the edge of a red jacket that matched her short, playful skirt. Earphones in, music humming, she walked with the grace of someone who had never known struggle. To everyone in town, she was Chief Ben’s daughter — the daughter of wealth, beauty, and promise.
But that morning, she wasn’t thinking about money or medicine or the future her parents wanted. She was thinking about freedom.
> “Just one day to be ordinary,” she murmured, tapping her earphone.
Meanwhile, across town, David dragged his feet along the market road. His shirt clung to his back with sweat, his hands heavy from the crate of unsold vegetables.
He sighed.
> “God, how long will this be my story?” he whispered.
David was known for two things — his good looks and his bad luck. He was smart, hardworking, and painfully poor. He had dreams of finishing school, of being an engineer, but life had written him into a different script.
Lost in his thoughts, he didn’t see her.
She didn’t see him either.
Until — boom!
The collision sent Ella’s little bag tumbling to the ground. Both of them bent at the same time to pick it up. Their hands touched. For a second, time paused.
> “Oh! I’m so sorry,” Ella stammered, laughing nervously.
“No, no — it’s my fault,” David replied, flashing a shy smile.
They both reached again for the bag, fingers brushing, eyes locking.
And in that single moment, something happened — something neither of them understood.
The world blurred; only their gaze remained.
Then a car horn shattered the silence, snapping them back to reality. They laughed awkwardly, stepping aside.
> “I should be more careful next time,” Ella said, brushing dust off her skirt.
“Maybe it’s fate,” David teased gently.
She smiled — not the polite kind, but the one that lingers in a man’s heart.
Then she turned and walked away, her red skirt swaying with each step.
David stood there, watching.
> “Who is she?” he whispered. “How come I’ve never seen her before?”
He forgot his disappointment, his empty pockets, even his pain. All that remained was that face — the one that smiled at him like the sun after rain.
---
Later that evening, Ella sat at her mother’s shop, still smiling to herself.
> “Why are you blushing?” Bella, her best friend, teased.
“Me? I’m not blushing!” Ella said quickly, though her cheeks betrayed her.
“Aha! You’ve met someone,” Bella laughed.
“No, I just… bumped into someone, that’s all.”
“Bumped?” Bella raised an eyebrow. “Was it your heart or your body?”
They both burst into laughter, drawing her mother’s curious glance.
But as the night grew deeper and the city lights flickered on, Ella found herself staring at her phone screen, wishing she had his number.
And miles away, David lay on his small bed, staring at the ceiling, smiling like a fool.
> “Her smile…” he whispered, “it’s haunting me.”
The city slept.
But two hearts — one rich, one poor — stayed awake, dreaming of the same memory.

EPISODE 2 – The Friendship That Grew Too Deep
By Blessing U.
The next few days passed like a slow song — gentle, restless, and full of longing.
Ella couldn’t stop thinking about the stranger with the shy smile. His voice still echoed in her head, his eyes replaying like a melody she couldn’t turn off.
Sometimes she would walk past that same road, pretending to be on her way to the shop — secretly hoping to see him again.
David did the same.
He lingered around that street corner, pretending to check his phone or fix his shoe, waiting for a glimpse of her.
But fate made them wait.
Until one warm evening.
Ella was walking her friend Bella home. The golden sky was folding into twilight, and the air smelled faintly of roasted corn. They were laughing about something silly when she froze — her laughter caught mid-air.
David stood right there.
For a second, her heart forgot how to beat.
Their eyes met again — just like that first day.
> “Ella,” Bella whispered, smiling knowingly.
“Shhh…” Ella muttered, trying not to blush.
David approached slowly, his heartbeat loud in his ears.
> “Hi,” he said, voice deep but gentle.
“Hi,” Ella replied, smiling shyly.
> “You remember me?” he asked.
“Of course,” she said. “You’re the guy who almost knocked me down.”
“And you’re the girl who made me forget how to breathe,” David said softly.
Bella giggled and stepped back.
> “I’ll leave you two lovebirds,” she teased.
David scratched his head, embarrassed.
> “I didn’t mean—”
“It’s okay,” Ella interrupted with a small laugh.
A silence fell, the kind that feels comfortable — like the world was listening.
Then David spoke.
> “Can I have your number? Just to say hi sometimes.”
Ella hesitated. Her parents had always warned her about boys. But something about David felt different — pure, calm, like the sea after a storm.
Bella nudged her with a grin.
> “Give it to him before I do.”
Ella smiled, took his phone, and typed her number.
> “There,” she said, handing it back.
“So… Ella?”
“Yes?”
“It’s nice to officially meet you.”
“It’s nice to meet you too, David.”
They both smiled, and just like that, something unspoken bloomed between them.
---
That night, Ella’s phone rang.
She stared at the unknown number, heart racing, before picking up.
> “Hello?”
“Hey… it’s David.”
“Oh,” she smiled, pretending to sound surprised. “Hi.”
“I just wanted to hear your voice again,” he said softly.
Her breath caught.
> “You sound tired,” she said.
“A little. Life has a way of keeping me on my toes.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’ve been working all day. Things didn’t sell well in the market again.”
There was silence, then Ella’s voice came through, soft as a whisper.
> “Don’t worry, David. Things will get better.”
He smiled into the receiver.
> “You talk like you believe it.”
“Because I do.”
They talked for hours — about music, their dreams, their families. She told him about her dream to study Medicine. He told her about the school he couldn’t finish.
When the line finally went silent, both lay in bed smiling at their ceilings, feeling that strange magic again.
---
The next day, David texted her on w******p.
David: Good morning, sunshine 🌞
Ella: Haha, it’s still 6 a.m.
David: Then you must be the sunrise itself.
Ella: David, stop 😂
David: Can’t stop when I’m talking to someone who makes my heart skip.
Ella blushed. She didn’t reply for five minutes — then finally typed:
Ella: You’re impossible.
---
Days turned into weeks.
Their friendship blossomed like spring flowers — soft, innocent, full of laughter and late-night chats.
Ella told her mother she was helping Bella with errands whenever she snuck out to see David. They would sit under the mango tree near his house, sharing cold soft drinks and stories.
> “If my life was a book,” David said one evening, “you’d be the chapter I’d never stop reading.”
“You say that to all the girls?” Ella teased.
“You’re the only one who ever listened.”
The wind whispered between them. Her heart trembled. For the first time in her life, Ella felt truly seen.
When she got home that night, she couldn’t sleep. Her heart was too full, her soul too awake.
> “What’s happening to me?” she whispered, smiling at the thought of him.
And somewhere across town, David whispered the same words, gazing at the stars.
> “Maybe this is what love feels like.”
