Chapter 5

She pulled away blushing.

"Asher how can you protect me" She asked gently cleaning my arm again.

"I know your world is more dangerous than mine. But we're the same little bird" I say tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"My world started at six. I've had ten years of training. Training is what they called it. The marriage thing was arranged when Levi and I were six. Levi always had a thing for me. Most of the scar you seemed to admire came from Levi" She says and I tensed up.

"How" I could feel blood starting to boil.

"Training" Her eyes were cold.

That life seemed to be more of a hurtful thing for her then a life like I had.

"Keep going little bird"

"Levi and I were supposed to be a powerful couple from two different powerful and I mean powerful families. Levi always told me I was his princess" She scrunched her nose up.

This side of her was different. She was shy. She was independent. She was crazy but she also was in pain.

"Which family are you from"

"Claire. Asher my name is Mareena Claire"

"You're a Claire"

"So you know the name. Your sister knew immediately. She's been on a few jobs with me"

"Maybell"

"I haven't seen you on any which must of meant you were working for Levi at some point" She says wrapping gauze around my arm.

"No I stay closer to home" I huffed.

"I ran the minute I knew they were gone. I took Sammy with me and made a plan" She sighs " A plan that worked. But since now Levi is dead. Sammy and I need some place safer to stay. Gram doesn't deserve to die and Sammy will be punished for escaping with me. Even worse I'd be killed. Then they start looking for someone who's willing to make a deal of marriage for Sammy"

"Stay with us little bird. I run this part of town since my dad stepped down"

"We're not the same Asher" She says getting up and going into the bathroom.

She was putting things away. I walked in and noticed the giant scars on her back. Her back was almost covered. Some scar tissue depper then the rest. She was whipped many times. Her scars showed what life she was trying to escape. That's when I saw it. There was a huge scar from the back of her shoulder to the front. Deep white.

"Little bird why do you have so many scars"

"Punishments for me and for Sammy. My last punishment almost killed me" She looks away from the mirror to the sink.

"Sammy"

"Was forced to watch" She balled her hands into fist.

Her knuckles became white and tiny drops of blood came out. Her tears slowly and steadily fell.

"You the Claire's don't have claim to this town right"

"They won't care. I'm dead to them and my punishment will eventually be carried out"

"Please stay with me little bird" I gently wrapped my hands around her naked waist.

I pulled her closer to me. I nuzzled my face into her neck.

"Asher I'd need a miracle"

"Little bird I know"

She chuckled.

"I have an idea" She says smiling.

"Do tell little bird"

"I need you to go to the store. Get me two boxes of light brown or ash brown hair dye. Then we'll go to a shop"

"A shop"

" You'll see" she smirks walking out of the bathroom.

I walked out after her dumbfounded. She started going through my shirt drawer. Dug out a black shirt. Pulled it over her head and then she pulled up her underwear.

"Um little bird you're playing a dangerous game right now"

She looked at me and giggles.

"Poor Asher" She says walking over to me.

"I'll go to the store then" I say quickly walking over to my dresser.

I grabbed what I needed and quickly went into bathroom. I locked the door and sighed.

My precious little bird made me wanna do what we already did again. This wasn't fair. I quickly got dressed. I unlocked the door and she was gone. There was a note on my pillow. She asked me to pick up Sammy and gave me the address. She also asked for colored contacts. Green colored contacts. I sighed and hopefully she'll be back before then. I grabbed the second car keys and left. I got what she needed.

"Hey Asher" Calin says.

"Calin"

"Dying your hair"

"It's for Maybell"

"Gotcha" He says giving me my total.

I paid and left. I drover to her grams.

"I was expecting you Asher" Her gram says opening the door.

"Mary. You're her gram"

"Why is that a surprise"

"You don't know do you"

"My son is monster yes. I do"

"I'm here for Sammy"

"That girl"

"Doesn't want anything to happen to you"

"You better take care of them Asher or my son will be the least of your worries"

"Yes Mary"

Sammy came running our with his bags packed.

"I'm ready" He smiles.

"Take care of them" She says hugging Sammy good bye.

"I will Mary. Be safe"

"I will" She says shutting the door.

Sammy was all smiles. I helped him into the car. I got into the driver seat and we drove back to my house. Maybell was already there. I pulled in and parked. Sammy all but jumped out of the car. Maybell was holding the door open.

"Asher you need to explain" Maybell says looking furious.

"Where is she" I said walking up the drive way.

"Your room"

"Ok what were her orders to you"

"She finally told you"

"Yes"

"I'm to protect Sammy at all cost"

" Then do it" I say heading to my room.

There she was cutting Sammy's hair. I smiled.

"Good Asher I need the hair dye" She says holding our her hand.

I handed her the bag. She took out on box opened and started preparing it.

"I'm ready Mare. I trust you" Sammy says and she nodded.

After she let Sammy's hair sit for a while. She rinsed his hair out and he looked different. She then opened the other two and started her hair.

She took a qtip and did her eyebrows. She waited the amount of time and then started to strip. Good thing Sammy was already gone. She started the shower a s got in. I waited patiently on my bed. The water stopped. I was growing anxious to see what she looked like. I heard something but stayed. Steamed rolled our of the bathroom letting me know she was done. She looked beautiful even in just a towel. I noticed she put a diagonal slit in her right eyebrow. What was her plan?.

"Let me get dressed and we can go to the shop I mentioned" She says dropping her towel.

"Ok" I say blushing.

This new look was doing a lot for me already. I wondered what shop she was talking about? She was finally dressed. Her outfit was so simple but yet sexy.

"Ready" She asked.

"Let's go" I say grabbing the second car keys.

We walked out to the car. She got into passenger side and shut the door. I opened the driver side and got in. I took one last look at her smiling. She looked at me smirking. She typed the address in on the GPS.

"A tattoo shop really"

"Asher just go"

I did as I was told and drove. Her boss tone was full speed now. Now that I know who she was the shyness was gone. I drove listening to the directions. We pulled up and she started tucking her hair in a hat. We walked in.
