Jean Pierre: The Story of a Slave Boy
PROLOGUE
"Hoist the sails!". The Captain shouted. The men were frantically throwing out items and goods to make the ship lighter. The storm was harsh and was rocking the ship back and forth. Everyone was scared. As the men hoisted the sails, the Captain commanded that the anchors be thrown at sea. The waves bashed about throwing waters in the ship and soiling all the perishable goods.
I was dazed and confused. It stunned me at the fact that the weather changed so fast. It was only a few hours since we left India on the Nightengale after shipping our goods over there and suddenly the weather became gloomy then next thing was lightening and thunder and finally a heavy storm that was causing destruction and fear.
We were all afraid. Some men were praying. Who knew what could happen next? what were we to do now ? was there still hope left? .
I was only twenty-one years old that time and the only African at Sea. One could be wondering what could a young lad like me be doing alone at sea with no family?.
Come with me as I take you through the journey of my life.
