“Kitina.” A voice came from in front of her. Kit jumped in surprise as her eyes found Skye. Skye smiled down at Kit and Kit grinned up at her. “How long was I out?” Skye asked as she sat down next to Kit on the bench. Kit pulled her cell phone out of her bookbag, clicked it on and looked at the time. Her clock displayed the time 3 AM. Kit chuckled. “Well, I woke up around 7:45 and it’s 3 now, so…” Kit said thoughtfully as she played with her necklace. “About 7 hours.” Kit concluded. Skye raised her eyebrows surprised and Kit laughed at her reaction. “Guess you needed the sleep.” Kit said, imitating something her mom had said to her. Skye smirked in response. “I think Mr. Mentley thought you were dead.” Kit chuckled. “He tried to wake you a couple of times.” Skye looked up towards the wheelhouse and waved to Mr. Mentley who smiled and waved back. “We should be arriving pretty soon, then.” Skye surmised. She looked over at the journal in Kit’s lap. There was a picture of Skye and her family which consisted of Alpha Melik, Luna Gwen, Skye and Monique, then there was a picture of Kit’s dad’s family which consisted of Javious, Charisma, a man and a woman. “That’s your dad’s family.” Skye shared softly. She pointed to the man in the picture. “That’s Darrell, your grandpa on your dad’s side and that’s Geraldine, your grandma on your dad’s side.” She finished, pointing to the woman in the picture. “She’s the coven mother for the witching community in Raven’s Nest.” Skye revealed. Kit mouthed the word oh and nodded her head in understanding. A small smile spread over her face and just as quickly as it appeared, it was replaced with a look of worry. Skye picked up on the sudden tension in Kit’s demeanor as Mexico came into view. Skye smoothed out Kit’s hair. “What’s wrong?” She probed. “I’m basically from royalty on both sides.” Kit concluded. “My grandfather’s the alpha of the pack on your side and my grandma’s the coven mother on my dad’s side…” Kit trailed off as she put the gem of her necklace into her mouth. She looked up at Skye with nervous eyes. “What if I don’t meet everyone’s expectations?” Skye scoffed. “You definitely won't.” Skye said, as though that were obvious. “But you don't need to meet anybody’s expectations except your own.” That didn't make Kit feel better as she stared wide-eyed at the approaching country of Mexico and the new adventure that awaited them. “Kit, people are going to seek perfection in everything that you do, and people are never going to be satisfied for a number of reasons.” Kit took a deep breath as Skye continued on. “Some people will be jealous, feel threatened and that simply comes with life, regardless of what or who you are.” Kit looked up at her mom and Skye pulled Kit into her side protectively as she thought about what was to come. “You’re a hybrid.” She paused. “And I know you don't feel like it yet, but you are the most powerful being on this earth.” Skye gave Kit’s shoulder a light squeeze before looking into her daughter’s bright, brown eyes. She smiled proudly at Kit. “You have already surpassed mine and your father’s expectations.” Kit beamed at her mom and snuggled into her side.
