Chapter 4

Alex POV

“Hey guys,could you wait for me?!” After chasing them down for what felt like 15 minutes I finally caught up to them “Stay back Alex” Reece tried to warn me but I had no idea as to why “You walked off on me remember?” I asked puzzling his statement before “Get back Alex” I heard Chase’s voice reach a threatening low ‘Dude leave him alone’ Reece’s voice rang through my head. But my friends been a d**k for the last few years and it’s time he gets a rain check “Chase your meant to be a leader and you treated that she wolf like dirt” as soon as I finished the sentence I was flung into the wall with utmost rage. Chase pinning my throat closed and body limply to the wall “She’s not a f*****g she-wolf. She deserves that and more she’s a f**king human!” His voice thundered into me while Reece was trying to pull one of my best friends away from me I was finally able to get some words in as he loosened his grip. “She is a wolf Damon told me” I coughed the words out to him but he didn’t seem to understand. “That’s f*****g Haven”

Neither myself or Reece could comprehend why that was an issue until he explained further “Haven, the Omega that was demoted purely for her own fathers wish’s, the girl that was branded wolfless in front of everyone. She is nothing and will be treated as such.” Although it was no Alpha command there was no argument with him on the subject. “Chase, it’s not like he asked her on a date” Reece jumped in trying to lighten the mood with some humour, which looked as though it was the only way to snap Chase out of it. “Besides Chase I recon I already know who my mate is, need me to share” my mischief was starting to shine through “well there’s no need to guess Chase’s” Reece sparked a challenge to his friend who had bristled at the mention of his possible mate “Its definitely Tessa” we both said in unison knowing that she is most definitely not his mate. “f**k off would ya’s. I have no need or time for a mate” Although he is an Alpha it can be easy to talk him out of a rage at some times. We all walked off in the direction of Chase’s car to head out for some lunch.

Reece POV

“Dude, you definitely should’ve hit that girl up back there she seemed keen” Alex turned to my elbowing me to emphasise his point. “Alex, unlike some people I believe in the mate bond” I rolled my eyes at him annoyed with repeating myself yet again. A cough ceased our conversation when we realised Chase was starting to get annoyed by the topic. “Jeez we’ve been home less than 24 hours and there’s already a goddamn thunderstorm going on” Alex said attempting to shift the conversation ‘Basic talk about the weather. Real creative’ my wolf Colt jittered about his poor attempt of conversation. Right as Chase was about to open his mouth our attention was drawn to the doors of the school being burst open with a young girl coming out with a limp. Even for us wolves the wind was icy and that girl looked as though she was barely protected from the weather at all. I watched as she disappeared behind the building, Alex and Chase were in their own conversation now about training tactics to run later this afternoon so I decided to follow her.

I followed the figure as the sought shelter behind one of the many filthy dumpsters in the school yard. “Why are you outside in this” I asked the girl allowing some of my authority to seep through to hopefully comply an answer. “Stop hiding, I’m not going to hurt you” the young girl was tucked into where she was hiding clearly afraid of something. ‘You need to get her to trust us’ Colt chimed in my head, somehow this did not seem like an easy task “Reece, is everything okay?” I heard Chase calling out to me from the end of the building “It’s fine” I replied to him but never moved from where I stood. “Whoever is there just come out so you can go inside where it’s safe” she was clearly trying to stay hidden. I began walking towards where she was hidden and found the girl curled into a tight ball with her neck bare to me, I tried to get her attention by nudging her with my foot which eventually got her out of the ball, even if she was still bowed. “Why did you not answer me?” I was beginning to get soaked by this point and just wanted everyone to go inside where it was dry. “Go inside now!” Colt took control for a brief moment keeping members of our packs best interests in mind he wanting this young girl safe. Although we’re are a Beta wolf we still leave no room for people to doubt our authority. “Get some actual clothes you’ll give yourself hypothermia wearing tattered s**t like that” I pitied this girls taste in attire and her thoughts to why she thought it was appropriate to wear something like that in this weather.

Realising it was Haven, our wolf-less pack member I figured she would already be on the verge of getting a cold. “Yes Beta Reese” Haven squeaked out at me, her tears didn’t escape me though ‘Dude you made her cry’ Colt started to scold me ‘I wasn’t even rough with her’ ‘ Not the point Reece, don’t be a jackass’ Colt quickly closed me off to talking to him after he berated me. I watched her try and stand and walk away but was just as fast back on the ground. Not without throwing up everywhere including on my shoes. “What the f**k!” I couldn’t help the outburst at the shock of being thrown up on. “I-I’m-“ between vomiting she must’ve tried to apologise before more came out again on my shoes. “WHAT THE f**k IS WRONG WITH YOU?!” I yelled at her for yet again vomiting on me, I had probably exaggerated my reaction but in my defence they were new shoes. I watched as she cowered away from me falling ass first into a puddle of bin water “I-I’m so sorry Beta Reece” she stuttered at me clearly out of fear from my reaction. Our little exchange had caught the attention of both Alex and Chase and soon they were arriving where we were. “Are you okay Reece?” Alex was the first to say anything when they arrived after seeing the vomit and crying girl. “What the f**k happened here?!” Alpha Chase boomed out at Haven clearly pissed off and what had happened and deemed it a sign of disrespect.

“I-I’m sorry” at this point she clearly had no control of her tears and was on the verge of hysterics. ‘Bro your shoes look rank’ Alex linked me as to not further the tension ‘These were brand new Jordan’s’ more annoyed that they were my new shoes that I’ve waited months for them anything, then Chase chimed in while Alex was checking on the girl. ‘Don’t worry Reece she will be punished’ as quick as he joins the link he left it. “Please, please Beta Reece I-I didn’t mean it” She was begging me at this point most likely to spare here from any major punishment “You will pay for the damages you have caused” Chase stated, an easy punishment for something that was an accident. “A-alpha C-Chase, please I have nothing to give” the girl was clearly embarrassed by having to tell him this and quick with a reply he told her to work off the debt and left quickly. ‘Don’t be too harsh on her Reece’ Alex tried to reason with me, I wasn’t planning on torturing the girl but she needed to pay her debts. “You will come by the pack house this evening to begin working off your debt” and then I followed after Chase.

“Reece you need to get rid of those shoes man, they f*****g reek” Chase said to me after about half an hour since the incident outside. “They were brand new shoes” I was devastated at this, whilst my two friends found it to be the funniest thing ever. “How long will she have to work to pay them off” Alex chimed in seeming more concerned with the fact that she was being punished like this for a bit of vomit on shoes. “Maids at the pack house get roughly $200 a day for a full days work, since she’ll only be working after school we’ll allocate her $40 a week” Chase gave us his plan regarding her punishment. “So she’s going to have to work for 8 weeks” Alex didn’t hide that he thought it was unfair, he wouldn’t act like this for some girl normally ‘Not some girl, that’s Haven’ Colt interrupted my thoughts about her. He has been bristling since the incident in the library with the level of fear she showed towards the three of us. Although we are higher ranking and her superiors we find more satisfaction in respect rather than fear.

After changing into my gym shoes, we made our way to the offices to gather our schedules and supplies that we would need. Our current Alpha arranged all our classes for us so that we could all get her intel about a bullying situation going on around the school. “Here you go boys, your supplies.” And older looking she-wolf in her 60s spoke to us with pride on her face for assisting the future leaders of the pack. “Thank you Bertie” Chase said to her not really feeling up to much conversation today. “Your welcome Alpha, I also have your schedules here, unfortunately though they are unlabelled so I’m assuming your taking one at random” with this she handed the schedules to Chase and walked off leaving us to organise ourselves. Chase looked at the schedule getting physically frustrated by the second “They’re pretty much all different,minus a few classes here and there” he let out with a groan, obviously not wanting to have unwanted attention on himself. “Well then how do we decide who’s is who’s?” I asked him, being careful to not irritate him further. “How about we get Bertie to just write random names on them, seems fairest” Alex suggested with a shrug. “That’s got to be the smartest thing you’ve said all week” Chase said running his hand down his face “Excuse me Bertie” I called out to her to see if she could help us. “Yes boys, how can I help?” She came back to us with a smile “we were wondering if you could write one of each of our names on the schedules, they’re all different and we don’t want to fight over something this minuscule” I asked her hoping she wouldn’t think we were being weird. “Of course I can young Beta” with that she grabbed all the schedules and went around the corner for a few minutes ‘What’s she doing, re-writing them’ Chases voice came through my mind, he’s clearly annoyed with being here in general and just wants to go ‘Maybe she’s forgotten?’ Alex suggested failing miserably at trying to calm our friend. As I was about to have an input she came around the corner “Im sorry it took soo long boys, I was just trying to make sure there’d be no dramas with who you were in classes with” with that she handed each of us our schedules and left again “Well here we go again” Alex announced trying to lighten the mood. “We’ll meet at your car Chase?” I wasn’t sure if he would wait around that long if I hadn’t mentioned he was our ride since we ran here this morning. “Yep” was all he said, then we gathered our stuff and went to each of our classes.
