Prologue

15 years ago…  "Run Abi, run!" Mia screamed from behind as she rushed up to pick up her youngest son. "Keep running! Do not look back!" she urges Abigail to push her legs faster. Snarls and screams can be heard reverberating throughout the woods where the village once stood glamorously, now, to be bathed in bright red blood and fires. The smell of burning woods and flesh sneaks its way into her nostrils as Abigail panted and ran as fast as her little feet could carry her, pulling her mother along who held her brother through the hidden path that was layered with an invisible spell. The spell hides both the pathway and the villagers that trails the way. Sweat and tears cover Abigail's dirt-stained face as she hears the snarls coming closer. "Abi! Take Aaron with you and run! Go East to Uncle Rossi, and I will come to find you there together with papa. Go!" Mia pushes her son to Abigail and turns around, drawing both of her katana from its sheath behind her. "Remember to always tell Aaron about our story and our love. You both are always loved, and never forget that. Now GO!" Mia said with a loving yet strict tone as she trudged the path back to where they came from warily. She holds her katana as if it was part of her own body.  "Mama! I'll wait for you at Uncle Rossi's place with Aaron. You and papa must come to find us!" Mia turns around to look at Abigail with a serene smile filled with love for her children. Seeing the smile, Abigail's gut wrenches. She could only turn and run as fast as she could while carrying her little brother in her arms. He looks around him curiously and quietly, oblivious to the attack and the pain that is going on around them. As she ran, she heard yelps and shouts behind her. Screams of pain and fear continue to ring in her ears no matter how far she runs. As Abigail continues along the path, she feels the barrier surrounding the village dissipating and surprisingly ineffective against humans. She knew that her mother would do whatever it took to stop the pursuers from getting to them. Her mother, the county's strongest assassin, along with her father, the strategist, had always shown love to both Abigail and her brother strongly.  But deep down, she knew that both of them would never see her parents and the village that she calls home, ever again.
