Marius's POV
I slammed my hand on the table out of frustration. I growled after receiving a report from my spy across the border of Astreza. The development is not what I have expected it to be. The takeover of vampires on the north of Astreza has failed as they have the Stone of Valhalla. A dark warlock must have aided them as the vampires can't touch the stone with their bare hands or any equipment at all. They would evaporate almost immediately as they do not have any soul and live like a walking dead.
Rubbing my tired eyes, I turned my chair around to look at the scenery outside of my residence. I have lost count of how many places I have lived in until I do not call any of it home. It does not exist anymore. Not after the Gods have sworn to keep me alive for eternal damnation, just because of my young, stupid, misplaced bravery to challenge them and release a disaster that befell Earth. On my end, I seriously did not expect that to happen after the fight. I have underestimated their wrath.
"Marius, you need to take a rest. You have been on this chair for almost a week. We cannot have you exhausted and not of clear mind to make sound decisions for the upcoming war." Sawyer McKinson's voice sounded from behind me. I responded with a low hum and sighed. I do have to admit, my beard is growing too long to my liking, and I think I need a hot bath to soothe my stiff muscles. As if my hair is not dark enough, the oil on my scalp enhances the darkness, making my hair shine like the darkest night ever.
"You're right. I'll go take a rest. Is there anything that you'd need me for through the rest of the week? I am thinking of going down to Earth to check on the rumors of the rebellion in two days’ time." I sighed and cleaned up my papers, ensuring that Sawyer got the work organised and not breathing down my neck upon returning from the planned short trip. Being the perfectionist, he makes a good right-hand man, running my empire in my place when I am not around. Sawyer's mind is unlike any strategist that I have known throughout my life, roaming the Earth, and building Astreza. He is cunning, meticulous, and calculative in every aspect. I often wonder how will he change when he meets his mate.
"There is nothing that would stop me from going on that little trip with you. How can you possibly ditch your brother from another parent to go have fun?" He replied. That bastard. He had to use the brotherhood card on me. Knowing the fact that he can have everything arranged for my third in command, Grey, to manage the place while we're gone, he takes every opportunity he could to follow me on my trips. He just wants to party.
"You know that I am not going to Earth for fun, do you? The witches has been requesting for a meeting since two weeks ago." I try my best to counter him off. I do need some time alone to get my mind off work. And him.
"Yeah, but what's the fun in it without me? I heard Hayley will be there at the meeting. I missed her." I groan at his reply.
"Whatever it is, you DO NOT push your affairs as your priority during the trip." I gave up. When he starts on the little witch that he has been seeing for two decades, he will not let me hear the end of it.
"You do know that you are my priority at all times, don't you? Grey would never be as attentive as I am towards your needs and wants. I have gotten the car ready for the trip already."
Walking out from my office, ignoring him, I head back into my room to take a quick shower and pack for the two days trip. I made sure to ring the maids to pack lunch to-go for both of us. He will not budge no matter what I say. He almost manipulated me into saying yes and letting him into his little victory. Keeping my mouth shut is always the right move when he starts his little speeches.
*Marius, the meeting with the witches has been scheduled for 2pm. The location will be updated on that day on your mobile. * Sawyer's voice sounded in my mind while I was packing up my clothes.
*Tell them to give me the agenda this time, by today before 5pm. Or I will not entertain them anymore. Their security will not be taken care of by our MarLee International. They will have to update their own data feeds into their servers. Support will not be provided whatsoever. * I responded.
*Got it, boss, * I cut off the link and head off to the kitchen to grab our packed lunch.
"Thank you, Bella. Your lunch smells fantastic as usual." I greet our head kitchen.
"Nonsense Mr Marius. My foods don't just smell fantastic. They taste amazing as well. Now you and Sawyer take more. It will make you miss my foods and come back safe and sound." Bella shoves another big foil pack into our insulated travel lunch bag. I laughed and kissed her cheek before heading out to the garage to meet Sawyer.
Sawyer grabbed the lunch bag from my hands and threw me the car key. I let out a low growl at his attitude. "Hey, hey, hey, a clear mind is literally non-existent when it is fogged by the hunger signals. Besides, Bella would kick me in the nuts if I didn't clear off my portion." Without saying anything, I got the car started and drove us to our destination, which would allow us to reach Earth safely.
