ARIANA'S POV:
After breakfast, we went back inside the mansion. He gave me a tour of the entire place, every room and every corner but my eyes locked onto a closed door.
"Why is that room locked?" I asked.
He sighed for a moment.
"I don't know either. When I bought this mansion, the previous owner warned me about that door. He said it leads to the basement and that it's forbidden to open it… that there's something evil down there."
"Didn't you ask him what kind of evil he was talking about? Is there a ghost?"
"I don't know. I never opened it. Besides, I never got the chance to get my answers."
"Why?"
"He died the next day."
"What?"
"Should we try to open it?"
He turned to me and stroked my cheeks with both hands.
"Or… we could just relax and live our lives normally and happily, instead of getting involved in someone else's mess, which isn't our business."
His voice softened.
"Besides, I don't want my wife exposed to any bad energy or evil. So let's forget about it."
I smiled gently, and he kissed my forehead.
"Okay."
"Now I'm leaving for the office for a meeting. I'll be back in the evening. I'm sorry, I know it's our first day, and I should take you out, but it's important work, so I have to go."
"It's okay. I'll unpack my luggage and organize things. It'll take the whole day to set everything up in such a big house anyway."
"Sure, whatever you like."
He paused.
"How about I make it up to you? We'll go for dinner tonight at a fancy restaurant."
"No, let's stay at home tonight. I don't feel like going out today."
"Okay… then let's have dinner outside in the garden."
"I'll cook."
"No, why? There are several maids here. You don't have to."
"But I want to. I really like cooking."
"Alright then. Tell Nina if you need any help, okay?"
"Okay, I will. Don't worry."
He took his coat from the wardrobe and put it on. I helped him straighten it.
"Thank you," he said, kissing my forehead.
"Bye."
"Bye."
