ARIANA'S POV:
As I was cooking, my mind was still stuck on that noise. What kind of weird sound was it? Was there a woman in the basement? Was the previous owner connected to her, or did he do something evil there? Lost in my thoughts, I accidentally cut my finger while chopping the vegetables.
"Ouch…"
Nina rushed to me.
"Ma'am, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine… just bring me a bandage."
She immediately opened the drawer, pulled out the first aid box, took a bandage, and wrapped it around my finger.
"You take care of the food," I said.
She nodded and took the vegetables from me.
As I walked toward the living room, my mind was still fixated on the locked door. My feet unconsciously carried me there. I stood in front of it.
After staring at it for a long moment, I placed my ear against the door.
There was silence.
I gave up, assuming the noise wouldn't come again, and started to pull away, when suddenly I heard a screaming voice. Someone was crying out, "Help… help me, please… someone out there."
My eyes widened in shock. I tried to open the door, but suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder. Startled, I turned around and screamed.
It was him.
A wave of relief washed over me.
"You scared me!"
"What are you doing here?"
"Shhh… listen."
"Listen to what?"
"The sound."
"What sound?"
"The woman inside. She's screaming for help. We should help her."
"I don't hear any woman, except you."
"It was there a few moments ago. A woman was screaming, crying for help. I think the previous owner locked a woman in here…"
"Why would he do that?"
"Let's find out. Try opening the door."
"Or maybe there's something evil in there, pretending to be innocent so we open it."
"Yeah… it could be. But...."
"We should leave it for now, until I call an exorcist to confront whatever it is inside."
"Okay…"
"Now let's go outside and have dinner. Nina has set the table, the food must be getting cold."
"Okay, let's go."
"Yeah… and don't worry about this. I'll handle it, okay?"
He stroked my cheek and kissed my forehead.
Then we went outside for dinner.
