ALYSSA
I stare at him in shock, my head swimming in disbelief.
That's not possible. That's can't be possible. The Alpha... It cannot be him.
How did he even know my name?
Sera must have told him but still it felt weird and annoying that he knew without me telling him.
He kept staring back, a glint of amusement in his eyes as he watched me. It must be entertaining watching me realize who he was.
I try to school my facial expression but the more the realization of what had happened comes rushing in, the more I was drowning in disbelief.
I had been captured by the Alpha himself. He didn't think to send any of his best Eta --warrior wolves-- or a Beta, if he had one, or even his Zeta --the war general. He decided to come by himself. Take the risk of their whole plan failing just so he could capture... me?
"Why?" I couldn't help the single question leaving my lips. His face turns into a scowl at my question as he straightens up but I continue anyways, "I mean, you said I had done nothing to you, so who then--" I paused as the realization hits me. "It's not me, is it?"
"Shut the f**k up and go back into your cell." He growls out low, visibly angry.
"I'm already in my cell." I counter back quickly and in the next second I wince as I'm being held in a choke hold, the sides of my face pressing hard against the iron bars.
"Are you really f*****g arguing with me?" His voice drops dangerously low, vibrating through my veins and tingling my spine as I fight hard not to make a distressing sound and just hold still as I glare up at him.
That's what he wants. He wants me to beg but I wasn't going to.
Cold-blooded icy blue eyes are all I see as seconds ticks by in silence before he speaks again. "I thought as much," He then releases me and steps back.
I take in a deep breath as I step back as well, my hands going to my neck in a tender wrap as I continuously glare hard at him. How dare he?
He stares back nonchalantly like he's fed up with our conversation and can't wait to leave. "As much as I'd love to starve you to death, I need you alive. So your meals would come in twice a day," He takes a step closer and even though there's still some space between us with the addition of the iron bar, I almost flinch backwards, but then he continues, "I'll be informed of your every action so you better make sure those dishes come back empty or else... the punishment will be dire." His voice drops low again at the end.
That sounded like a threat. I think it was, but a small part of me wondered what the punishment would be like since he didn't want me dead.
Remembering the torturous sounds from when my father tortured his enemies had me stilling my breath. Ofcourse that would be it.
Have me chained up and beaten to pulp. This time around, it wouldn't be to get information from me but just so I could eat. Very thoughtful of him.
He didn't wait for a response as he turned and left. I finally let out a deep breath as I felt my eyes sting, but I blink back the incoming tears.
I shouldn't be letting his words get to me. I shouldn't let my current situation weaken me. I am not weak. I just have to find a way to escape. I have to think of something and I have to think fast.

Hours go by and I'm back by the wall, sitting with my hands around my bent knee and my chin on my knee. The first meal came as the Alpha had said it would which meant it was already the morning of the next day. The day my mating ritual was to take place.
Not only would my father be devastated by my capture but Shane will as well be.
Shane is my mate. He was always meant to be my mate. It was something I'd known right from the moment I met him years ago. He is the son of our pack's Beta, the second strongest in the pack, Bastian, who was one of the Council members. Shane had become the second Beta along with his father.
He always cherished and adored me but was fierce and strict to everyone else. I'd always known he would make a great leader when the time comes. And yes, I was going to give him my right of leadership after we mated.
I'd told him a while back and he was so against it but my mind had been made up. I wanted him as the Alpha after my father. He had no choice but to agree with me and we had planned on telling my father together but now I was captured, sitting in the cell of my enemies with my fate in their hands. The turn of events was just crazy!
I stare at the meal they had placed on the ground by the iron bar. No one was allowed to enter so the servant that was sent pushed it through the space between the bars and left without a word.
Right. No one was allowed to talk to me. What a bullshit rule! It's not like any of them would help me escape as they were obviously very loyal to their master. They would do anything he says and anything for him.
My eyes are still locked on the meal when a shadow appears and they shift to the pair of legs in a thigh high boot, standing outside my cell. I trail my eyes upward only to find a lady around my age and height staring --no, glaring at me with disgust.
She had big beautiful light brown eyes, blonde hair and a body that could make any and every male fall at her feet in a cropped leather jacket and a very short skirt.
She is beautiful. Gorgeous. But why is she looking at me like that?
She is obviously following the 'no talking to the prisoner' rule as it looks like she has a lot to say but she--
"You ugly thing." She spat out in disgust.
Hold up. Did she just talk to me?
I tilt my head to the side as I narrow my eyes at her in confusion. How and why is she talking to me? And why the hell is she talking to me like that?
She was about to continue when one of the guards turns to her and says, "No one is allowed to talk to her except the Alpha." His baritone voice booms but she doesn't flinch. That's surprising. Maybe she's used to it or something.
"And I'm the Alpha's mate!" She turns sharply to stare up at him. I notice even with the height difference, she stares at him daringly. Like she knows he can't do anything to her. She said she's the Alpha's mate, which makes her a very important person. She is definitely none to be dealt with.
I look from both the guard to the lady and then the other guard behind her. Both guards had the same stoic expression, not the least bothered by her stare nor her presence but their silence proves she'd won the argument - if it was one.
She turns back to me and folds her arms in front of her chest, "As I was saying," She continues, "So you're the ugly thing that has made my Asher's mood turn sour?" She asks, her voice and gaze dripping with contempt.
Asher? Is that the Alpha's name?
"I asked you a question!" She flares up.
I raise my eyes and stare tiredly at her, answering her with silence.
She scoffs in disbelief and looks around until her eyes lands on my untouched meal and she bends, pulls it out from where it was pushed through, stands again and puts her hand through another space and flings it.
In the next second, the plate lands right on my face with its contents now smeared all over my face and body. My head starts to throb as the pain comes slowly.
I try to calm the anger rising inside of me as I wipe my eyes with my fingers so I could see. I look down at myself and my eyes stung. No, not the tears. Not now. Not when this wicked one was still here.
What have I done to her? First, it was the Alpha who claims I had done nothing to him but still wouldn't tell me why he'd captured me, and now it's his mate? I don't even know her f*****g name!
Is this all because of my father? Did they think I was my father's weakness? Maybe I am, afterall I'm the only one he has left. My mother died while giving birth to me and my father never found another mate. If he loses me too, I'm not sure he could handle it. I don't even think he would let that happen.
This was all a plan to get my father to make a single mistake and then they'd strike. They'd kill him and then kill me. But why?!
"Now listen to me," She continues like she didn't just fling my meal right at my face. "If you get him in a bad mood again, I'll cut you into pieces. And let me just let you know, I'll make sure I'll be the one to take your miserable life. That's a promise."
I could feel the malice in her voice. It was a threat she was going to keep. I'd rather have her mate kill me instead.
I had a lot to say to her. I wanted to scream. Shout. Grab her hair and punch her continuously, but I couldn't. She knew I couldn't. Those guards would stop me before I could get any close to her and then 'Her Asher' would have me chained and tortured.
Seconds pass, turning into minutes and when I finally had the strength to lift my eyes again, she was gone. And just when I thought I could finally breathe again, my airways are clogged with a strong wave of emotion as my eyes stares at another, tears brimming in mine.
No. Not yet... Not ever. I can't. Not this person.
"Hi, Alyssa." She says and I pull my fingers through the dirt.
Hurt. Pain. Anger. Disappointment. It all comes like a wave, hitting me right at my core. If I wasn't sitting, my legs might have given out with how heavy it all weighs on me.
Sera moves closer, her eyes squinting like she's just taking notice of my face, "Alyssa, what ha-"
The guard on her right puts a hand out, stopping her from coming closer to my cell. I've never been more grateful. "You're not allowed to talk to her. No one is except the Alpha."
She looks up at him with a face that looks like she's concerned about me but I know she's not. She knows she's not. How can she be? It's all pretence. That's all she's ever done since I met her.
"Can't you see her face? How did that happen?" She turns to the other guard, "Who did that to her?" She sounds angry. Another act.
Did she really not see my face at first or was it another beautiful act of hers? Is her name really even Sera?
Lies. Lies are all she's ever told me. All she's ever said.
