CHAPTER 1
ALYSSA
The distant screeching sounds of blades meeting becomes even more louder... and closer. Painful moans fills the air as dread fills my heart. What could be happening? This is a dream. It can only be.
I need to wake up now!
I could hear the loud bang against my door. It came only once and then the atmosphere changed. I could tell someone was in my room now. How? Wasn't this a dream? Why is my vision dark? Why couldn't I see anything at all?
I tried to thrash my body as I felt movement around me. Wake the f**k up, Alyssa!
"Didn't you give her the potion?" Someone spoke from my right. A voice I hadn't heard before. Deep and... menacing.
"I did." Another softer voice answered. It sounded vaguely familiar.
"Then why the f**k is she moving?!"
I could feel shivers run down my spine as the realization hit me. This isn't a dream. We're under attack.
I stilled myself as I thought hard on what move to make. I knew at this point that I'd been given something that should keep me knocked out but somehow, it had started to wear off. Now, I was in the mercy of their hands as they probably have their blades pointed at my throat. If I tried to move or open my eyes, I'd be good as gone.
Dread fills my whole being as I process the whole situation in a matter of seconds. This was an attack, so definitely they were going to kill me.
I tried to steady my slowly increasing breaths as I racked my brain for a plan, but no matter the idea I come up with, I was dying anyways. But one thing was sure though... I wouldn't be dying without a fight.
With that thought, I held the hilt of one of my daggers sheathed at my thigh before opening my eyes in one swift movement and the first thing my eyes lands on was a pair of piercing icy blue eyes staring back at mine furiously.
It was him. It had to be him. The owner of that deep and menacing voice... I think.
He tilts his head slightly like a predator sizing up its prey --and I am that prey-- but I would take any opportunity that present itself and this was one.
A small amount of skin was left exposed on the left side of his neck from his black leather jacket, enough for me to strike and so I did.
Pulling out the hand that held the dagger from under my bed cover, I struck fast, right where I'd aimed at but he was faster. Way too fast.
He held my wrist with a tight grip so strong I almost let out a small cry. I winced as he squeezed harder but I made no sound.
"I wouldn't want to try that if I were you." His voice was dangerously low as he spoke. His eyes, an ice blaze.
"f**k you!" I cuss at him and began struggling against him. I push forward with force but he only lets out an annoyed sigh and twists my arm.
Hot pain shoots up my arm as I shrieked but he just turns to the second person in the room and spoke, "Get everyone ready to leave. I've gotten what I came here for."
And that was... me?
Biting down the pain, I sneaked a glance at the other person before they could make a move to leave and I was left shocked to my bones.
She was the one. Of course she was! Sera, the lone wolf I had found, rescued and brought into my home. She was... It was all a plan. She was sent by the enemy to infiltrate my pack...my home. And I... I foolishly fell into their trap.
She dips her head with a small nod at him and then glanced at me with something that looked like remorse in her eyes. How dare she?
"You!" I shout at her as she turns to leave. She pauses with a quick side glance but was out of the door in the next second.
"I swear, I would kill you! I would find you and kill you!" I continued shouting as the door closed behind her, anger heating up my body.
"You would be doing no such thing because I will be killing you first." My attention is drawn back to the man holding my arm twisted around.
Right. He could kill me here and now and it would all be over. Still, I stare back at him now with hot, fuming anger burning in my eyes.
I release a hard breath through my lips so I could move the strands of hair that had fallen on my face as I lift my chin to meet his hard gaze, "And what's stopping you?"
He narrows his eyes dangerously at me and I could already tell what was coming. I have to distract him even if it's for a few minutes before I come up with a plan or so someone might come.
"What do you want from me? What could I have possibly done to you?!" I asked, staring back at his still hardened eyes.
His eyes widened a tad bit as he snorted out a small laugh, "Done to me? You haven't done anything to me."
"Then why?" I asked, exasperated at this point.
"There's no rush. You'd find out soon enough." He answers and that was the last thing I heard before he hit the side of my neck and knocked me out.
~~~
The next time I open my eyes, I'm staring at a stoned ceiling in a dimly lit room that smelled like damp soil. Where was I? Was it all a dream or am I just getting into one?
Turning my head to the side, my eyes land on heavy iron bars that looks like they have been stationed there for decades, if not centuries. Pushing myself up, I'm struck with a sharp pain across my temple that has me wincing and pressing my fingers on it. It's gone just as fast as it came and I blink my eyes to steady my vision.
Right. That strange man with the blue eyes had knocked me out earlier and now... now, I was here.
Rising to my feet, I take a quick glance around my surrounding and with what I could see, I could clearly tell I was in a dungeon. Three thick stoned walls and the heavy iron bar keeping me locked in with two muscled men keeping guard outside it. Yep! Definitely a dungeon.
I reach the iron bars and try to get their attention. "Hey." I call out but they spare me no glance.
"Can you at least tell me why I'm here? What do you people want from me?" I ask but nothing still. They don't even make a single movement.
Who are these people? I have never met any of them in my life, so why am I being held hostage? They could have killed me but they didn't. He didn't. Who was that by the way?
"If..." I decided to try again, "If I can't talk to either of you, can you get me the blue eyed man then?" I turn my head from one guard to the other, both of them looking alike with short black hair and strong jawlines. That was mainly all I could really see from where I stood.
Seconds go by and I'm answered with silence. I nod at myself. Ofcourse they were obviously under a command not to speak to me.
I sighed and turned on my heels, walking back to the wall and then slid my back against it till my bum touched the ground. I fold my knees to my chest and wrap my arms around it, resting my head on my bent knee. This was going to be a long night.
My thoughts went straight to my father. How was he doing? Had he gotten home yet? Had he seen the damage? The bodies of his guards and servants and... my empty room.
He would definitely be freaking out, sending orders to find me immediately.
How would he take it when he finds out it had all been my fault for bringing the enemy into our domain. Our home.
He had warned me. He told me not to bring her in. Not into our household as we didn't really known her but I was adamant. I was foolish enough to let her pitiful and innocent face get to me. It was all fake. Every single damned thing!
How would the rest of the pack take it? The news of the Alpha's household being attacked and his daughter captured by the enemy. They wouldn't feel safe anymore. If the Alpha's home could be attacked and his daughter captured so easily, then the pack wasn't safe anymore. A war could happen anytime and we would definitely be on the losing side.
The middle of my scalp starts to tingle like someone was watching me and when I raise my head, I find those icy blue eyes staring-- no, glaring at me like he was seconds away from slitting my throat open.
A cold chill runs down my spine as I try not to gulp hard and instead stare back.
He stands tall in the dim light outside the dungeon cell, his hands tucked in his pants' pockets, his upper body still in the leather jacket he had on earlier. His hair as dark as the shadows behind him. He had an aura that commanded fear amd respect. He definitely wasn't one to mess with.
I could feel my heart race as I slowly rise to my feet. I just needed to ask him what I had done to them and what they wanted from me.
I slowly approach the iron bars with my eyes still on his as he stared back with hostility.
"Why?" I start, "Why am I here? What have I done to you?" I ask, trying to sound normal.
He arches an eyebrow perfectly and dangerously leans down a bit, "I thought I made it clear that you have done nothing to me." He says in a cold voice, sending another wave of chills down my spine.
"Then... then, why am I here? Who did I offend? Sera? If I remember correctly, I saved her. Oh, right, she didn't need saving. She was a spy. So why?" I asked again, anger slowly coursing through my veins at the thought of Sera.
He leans back to stand straight, his eyes still on me, "You're here for a reason. You're here as a captive of mine and shall remain so until I decide to kill you. That's all you should know."
I stare up at him through the space between the iron bars with disbelief. Who the hell is he to tell me all that?
"Also," He continues, not bothered by the irritated look on my face, "No one is allowed to talk to you so don't bother trying to talk to them. I am the only that can talk to you until I decide to kill you."
He holds my gaze and arches a brow like he's daring me to object.
I exhale sharply in annoyance and disbelief. Never in my twenty-two years of existence has anyone spoken to me with such arrogance and disrespect. "I want to talk to your superior." I tell him, lifting my chin.
A corner of his lips tips up a little, "I am the superior."
My fingers fold into a tight fist as I glare hard at him, "Then I want to talk to your Alpha." The pack leader is superior above all.
He leans down again and tilts his head like he'd done in my room as I watch his lips move, "Alyssa, I... am the Alpha."
