Derek's POV

Showing Mariah and Stella the house has been quite an event.

“One more thing before I let you settle,”I say, handing her a wrapped box, I want to give her the world. Show her a new way of life.

“Oh my god. Are you serious?! I haven’t had a phone since they were flip phones Derek!!

She hugged me and kissed me on the cheek in excitement. I was a little taken back by the gesture but was not complaining one bit.  I would take her kisses any time of day or night. She sent fire through my veins. She made my heart beat stronger than it ever has before. Is this what love feels like?

“So you like it?” I asked rubbing my forehead

“Like it, I love it! Thank you so much! Seriously, I don’t know how to thank you enough for everything,” Mariah said. She didn’t need to thank me. I should be thanking her. Thanking her for being alive. Thank her for being so strong. 

“This is just the beginning my beautiful warrior. Soon you will see exactly how you should be treated. Now I’m gonna let you get settled. I’m gonna go do some work in my office down the hall. If you need anything don’t hesitate to come find me. Otherwise, I’ll have the maid come get you when it’s time for dinner,” I said pulling her in for a hug.

She doesn’t know what she does to me. I have never wanted to make someone so happy before in my life. 

“Well beautiful, I’ll leave you to get settled. The maid will come get you at dinner time. If you need anything, text me or call me. I’ll be in my study catching up on some work. I programmed my number into your phone already.”

“Thank you, see you later,” She said breaking the hug. 

God I love her. She’s the one, I just know it.

“Hey Dad, I just thought I’d call and tell you that we don’t need to worry about that contract after all.”

“Yes Dad, that bastard almost killed her. He will get no contract from me. I want to destroy him.”

“She’s here with me. I put her in the room across from me. I’ll give her some space for now. Time to heal. Then I’ll ask her to marry me.”

“Thank you Dad. Seriously, for everything.”

I hang up the phone and immediately start looking into Mitch. I need to find everything I can on him. Where he lives, how many properties he owns, who knows. There’s no way he’s getting away with this.  I know just who to call to help track down this bastard. My old college friend Donald Lancaster. 

“Hey Don, long time no talk. Listen you remember when you said you owed me like 15 years ago?”

“Yeah I remember Derry. What’s up?”

“Well there’s this man, Mitchell Wilmer. He was supposed to be one of our new contract leads but it appears that he will not be doing that. He tried to kill a spectacular woman and Stella Swan.”

“Has he been charged?”

“Yes he has but he has disappeared off the grid. Now his ex girlfriend Mariah Evermore is staying her with me as is Stella, but Stella is only staying temporarily until we find him.”

“What about Mariah Evermore?”

“Well I have plans for her. I plan to marry her.”

“Are you sure you are Derek Sky? Am I talking to the same Derek Sky that I knew years ago. You plan to marry her? The Derek Sky I know doesn’t ever want marriage let alone a relationship?”

“Dude, I’m telling you she’s the one. I never thought I would ever say this. But she’s the one I’ve been waiting for my whole life.”

“Wow dude, I’m proud of you. Listen, what all do you need from me?”

“Well I would like to know everything you can dig about this guy. His parents, his properties, who he knows, his routines. I would like you to find him. If you find him, you’ll be hugely rewarded.”

“Well s**t, why didn’t you just say that. I’ll get right on it.”

“Thanks man, I appreciate it.”

“Anything for you dude. I owe you my life.”

I hang up the phone. I'm going to make sure that bastard never lays a hand on my beautiful warrior. I'm going to make sure he pays for trying to ruin her. She's so beautiful. So perfect. So going to be mine forever.
