Chapter Nineteen
Eddie Dickson lived alone in a subsidised government army house. Chap was surprised, because army houses were usually reserved for married members. Single members, as a general rule, were housed in barracks-style accommodation within the base precinct. But then, Eddie Dickson was an officer, not a rank-and-file soldier and this was not the 1960s. Times had changed, and today’s modern army bore little resemblance to the army Chap remembered.
The documents supported what Corporal Kelly had already told him; Dickson was due to retire in the next few months. A waste, Chap thought, a lousy, pitiful waste. A productive, dedicated forty-five years of service to the army and his country gone in an instant. Again, the questions surfaced. Who? Why?
