Chapter 10

1062 Words
“Sister Sera? You’re joking, right?” Olivia panicked, afraid that Seraphine and her husband would actually call the police. “I’m sure Sister Sera wouldn’t be heartless enough to have Mother arrested.” Margareth clenched her teeth in irritation, clearly furious because Seraphine was provoking her again. “Don’t play games, Sera. You don’t want everyone to know who you are—who your family is, do you? Remember, you married the Adamson CEO!” Margareth’s gaze shifted to Ethan, who stood loyally beside Seraphine. “You surely wouldn’t want the public to know who your wife really is—a woman heartless enough to abandon her own mother and sister, even cutting off all ties?” Seraphine and Ethan were visibly displeased by Margareth’s words, which made Margareth believe they would not dare provoke her further and that she could still take advantage of them. Olivia felt the same way, believing that whatever Margareth did would not make Seraphine bold enough to go so far as to send her own mother to prison. However, reality was not as they had imagined. The police Arthur had called arrived, causing Margareth to panic. “Sera—” Margareth choked in fear. She had never expected them to actually call the police. Margareth had thought she had won by controlling Seraphine, but in truth, she had lost. “This is the content of the agreement between Miss Seraphine and Mrs. Margareth, along with evidence you can see or hear showing that Margareth has violated the agreement she signed,” Arthur explained to the police officers who approached him. Margareth glared sharply at everyone in front of her, unwilling to accept being entangled with the law. Olivia could now only remain silent, unwilling to end up in prison as well because of their greed in exploiting Seraphine. The police examined the documents Arthur had provided—a formal agreement and written statements made without coercion, explaining the termination of the mother-daughter relationship and the reasons Seraphine made such a decision. Everything was clearly written, showing that Margareth was at fault and had disregarded what she had signed. “Officer, this is just a dispute between a mother and her child! There’s no legal issue here, right?” Margareth insisted, hoping the police would believe her words rather than the evidence Arthur had provided. Olivia nodded, as if supporting her mother’s statement. But unlike the three of them, who believed they were not at fault, the others were confident because they had evidence and witnesses. It was not Seraphine who had abandoned her mother and sister—it was her own mother who had neglected, exploited, and abused her own child solely for their pleasure, without caring about Seraphine’s pain or suffering. “You’re truly remarkable, Madam. Do you think the police will believe everything you say?” Seraphine said sarcastically as she lifted her skirt, revealing the bruises left by Margareth’s beatings. “All of this is still visible. There are medical examinations and witnesses, so it’s very clear who is at fault. Mrs. Margareth, this is only part of my reason for cutting ties with you. I think you know there’s much more than this, don’t you?” Margareth’s body trembled. She never imagined that the daughter who had always been weak, obedient, fearful, and submissive would now dare to challenge her so boldly—even going so far as to send her to prison. “That’s why I told you to read the agreement, but you refused and were more interested in the amount of money involved. Madam, you no longer have any chance left, isn’t that right, Officer?” Arthur asked the policeman, who had finished reviewing the documents. The officer nodded. “Mr. Arthur, Mr. Ethan, we will take these documents as evidence. And you, Mrs. Margareth, have been proven guilty. Please come with us.” “No, no! Don’t take me away—I can’t go to prison! Sera, you are truly an ungrateful child! Why did I raise you if you’re only going to make me suffer?” Margareth shouted angrily, fiercely resisting arrest. “Don’t take my mother, Big Sister Sera! How can you be so cruel?” Olivia now begged the police not to take her mother to prison. Seraphine let out a faint laugh, finding their words almost absurd. Cruel? Ungrateful? “You are the ones who were cruel to me—the ones who were ungrateful! I worked tirelessly, regardless of being hurt or sick, just to give you money and a decent life. But you treated me like nothing more than a money-making machine. I’m sure you never considered me part of your family! So now, just enjoy what you’ve reaped. I truly don’t want anything to do with you anymore. Officers, take this woman away immediately and punish her according to the law!” Seraphine poured out all her grievances toward Margareth and Olivia, declaring that she no longer wanted to deal with those who had hurt her emotionally and physically. She hoped that after this incident, there would be no more trouble coming from them. Even if Olivia now had to live on her own, Seraphine no longer cared. Ethan embraced Seraphine as she spoke through sobs, but the handsome man knew that her heart was now far calmer than before. “That’s enough. Don’t continue anymore. Let’s go home—you’re very tired,” Ethan said quietly, having given Seraphine the space to bring everything to an end. Seraphine nodded, agreeing to leave the house filled with both good and painful memories. Meanwhile, Margareth screamed in anger at Seraphine, while Olivia begged for her mother not to be taken to prison, knowing she would now have to struggle alone to survive. “Sister Sera, you’re truly a bastard. Just wait—I’ll take everything good you have and make it mine!” Olivia growled in rage. Now all alone, unable to help free her mother, her anger only grew as she saw Seraphine living in luxury with a handsome, wealthy man who always supported her. “That was all my dream—so why does she get everything? Why?” Olivia cried hysterically, unable to accept that her life was not as good as Seraphine’s. “Mother, don’t worry. I’ll find a way to get you out of prison!”
