Seraphine looked at Ethan in confusion, seeing the anger in his eyes. She followed Ethan’s gaze toward the outside until she spotted a man standing there, staring straight at her.
“Who is that man?” Sera whispered in her heart.
Ethan looked back at Sera, the woman who was now his wife. He gave a faint smile and shook his head weakly, as if it wasn’t something she needed to know.
“He’s no one. Don’t mind it. Sera, thank you for becoming my wife. I promise I will protect you,” Ethan said sincerely.
Seraphine stayed silent. She could sense Ethan was hiding something from her. The man outside and Ethan’s angry expression already told her there was something she didn’t know. But she understood—maybe Ethan wasn’t ready to share everything yet, especially today—their wedding day.
A marriage she wasn’t sure would become a blessing or a curse for them, especially for Seraphine.
Seraphine smiled at Ethan and hugged him tightly. She wouldn’t force her husband to explain anything right now, because Ethan had already helped her in many ways—especially from that tragic moment when she was beaten by Margareth.
Seraphine would give him time, but she hoped Ethan would eventually open up to her, just like she had done—telling him about her family.
“Mr. Ethan…” Arthur approached them, sounding apologetic for interrupting their moment.
“What is it?” Ethan asked coldly, stepping slightly away from Sera.
Ethan already knew Arthur would say something he wouldn’t like—or something related to the man outside.
“Your identity as Adamson’s CEO has already spread,” Arthur reported.
Ethan gave a faint smile. To him, it wasn’t a big issue. In fact, it was part of his plan. For a full year, Ethan had hidden his identity from everyone—even from his ex-girlfriend, Claire.
“So that’s why that man was staring at me?” Ethan said with a smirk, waiting for the reaction of the person who once looked down on him. “Let it be. Inform my parents that I’m ready to be known publicly, and introduce my wife. Arthur, you must protect Sera. I know Margareth and Olivia won’t stop bothering her.”
“I understand. And… your parents already know about your marriage. They’re waiting at the main house,” Arthur replied, making Ethan turn toward Seraphine, who was quietly observing the church.
Meanwhile, Sera was still wondering who the man Ethan glared at with such hatred was—an enemy or someone Ethan simply despised. Seraphine felt her heart preparing for the worst—about Ethan, his parents, his surroundings, and everything she knew nothing about.
“Sera, you’ll meet my parents soon. They’re waiting for us at home.”
Hearing that made Seraphine freeze. The nervousness returned. How was she supposed to face Ethan’s parents when the wedding had happened so suddenly and after such a short meeting?
“You’re nervous? Afraid?” Ethan asked casually. “Relax, my parents won’t eat you.”
Seraphine let out a frustrated sigh.
“If I wasn’t nervous, that would be strange. Anyone would feel this way!” she said. “Our introduction, the wedding—everything happened so fast, and they weren’t involved at all. And then Margareth and Olivia—Ethan, I…”
“Don’t worry about anything. Just trust me, okay?” Ethan cut her off gently.
Seraphine hesitated but nodded, trying to trust Ethan that everything would be fine with his parents. She didn’t want Ethan to receive anger from his family because he married her.
She knew Ethan came from a wealthy family—a family that would surely judge who was worthy of joining their bloodline. And Seraphine was just a poor girl with a terrible family background. She wasn’t sure she would be accepted.
After a long drive, they finally arrived at the Adamson main residence. A luxurious mansion stood towering before them, making Seraphine speechless.
“Ethan… who are you, really?” Seraphine asked.
Ethan chuckled softly at her reaction. “Let’s go inside. You’ll understand once you meet my family.”
With hesitation, Seraphine took slow steps into the mansion. Her eyes didn’t stop scanning every corner—from the garden to the entrance. The maids and guards bowed respectfully at Ethan, making Seraphine feel even smaller beside him. Ethan wasn’t just wealthy—he might be a millionaire, or even a billionaire.
“Who did I marry? I thought Ethan was just comfortably wealthy, but….” Seraphine whispered quietly.
“Am I worthy?” her doubts resurfaced.
As Seraphine walked into the mansion, she lowered her head, afraid, unsure she would be accepted. But Ethan held her hand tightly, giving her a reassuring smile—as if telling her everything would be fine.
“Ethan, you’re back?” a middle-aged woman called out sharply, staring at Seraphine with a cold expression. “You really got married? Who is this woman you brought?”
“Yes, I’m married, Mother. This is Seraphine,” Ethan introduced her confidently.
Seraphine gathered her courage and stepped forward to greet Ethan’s biological mother.
But just as she took one step, she froze.
“You’ve gone too far, Ethan! Do you really think I will accept this?!” Ethan’s mother shouted angrily at her son.
Seraphine felt her heart race painfully. Her eyes turned red as she tried to hold back tears.
Rejection—that was what she expected.
“I should’ve known this would happen… I will never be accepted anywhere…” Seraphine whispered inside her heart.
