“Mom… seriously…” Ethan muttered in irritation as Teresa began teasing him.
Seraphine smiled. She still felt stiff trying to blend into her new family. But beneath that, she felt deeply grateful that God had brought Ethan—and such a kind family—into her life.
“Thank you… truly… I thought I would never be accepted here,” Seraphine said sincerely.
“Why wouldn’t you be? You’re beautiful, Ethan likes you, and we’re not the kind of family who throws someone out over something foolish. I’m George, Ethan’s father. Call me Dad.”
Seraphine smiled, nodding shyly. Gratitude and happiness filled her chest—feelings she couldn’t even describe. She finally felt confident again, not because they were wealthy but because they genuinely cared for her.
After their introductions, they moved to the family room and chatted—not about Sera’s past nor Ethan’s. They respected her completely. For them, the past didn’t matter. Only tomorrow—and the future—with the Adamson family.
“So, Ethan—you’re the CEO of Adamson?” Seraphine asked later that night when they were alone in their room. She had only just realized her husband’s true identity—so far from her own, just a poor girl.
“Do you regret it?” Ethan asked.
“No—of course not. Because now, I’m the wife many women dream of becoming,” Seraphine replied without hesitation.
Ethan chuckled softly—adoring her. This was the Seraphine he liked.
“You were crying, silent, and now your true personality comes out?”
“That’s because of your parents. I couldn’t possibly show them my evil side,” she snapped, making Ethan even more amused as he playfully messed up her hair. Seraphine pouted.
But then a genuine smile formed on her face. “I don’t know how to thank you—or your parents—for accepting me into this family. And… I’m afraid if they find out the truth about you being Adamson’s CEO.”
“Margareth and Olivia?” Ethan asked, and Seraphine nodded. “Don’t worry. They won’t be able to bother you. If they try to publicly declare themselves as your mother and sister, they’ll end up in prison. That was the agreement.”
“Right. I doubt they even read that part. Ethan… am I a terrible daughter for cutting ties with my biological mother?” Seraphine asked, the thought still haunting her.
“To me, no. If I were in your position, I would have done the same. Seraphine, don’t regret the decisions you’ve made. Remember—I’ll always be behind you, supporting you without hesitation.”
“Don’t be too good to me. I might fall in love with you, Ethan,” Seraphine murmured, lowering her head in embarrassment. Ethan was the first man to ever make her heart tremble—with everything he had done for her—even if their relationship had begun so quickly.
“That’s exactly what I want. Because if I were the only one in love—it wouldn’t be fair,” Ethan replied, making Seraphine lift her gaze toward him. “Yes, I’ve already fallen in love with you. So don’t hesitate to love me, Seraphine.”
“You… I don’t believe you. How could you fall in love with me this fast? Didn’t you just go through heartbreak? Are you sure you no longer have feelings for that woman?” she asked one question after another.
“I don’t want to just be someone’s escape,” she added quietly.
Ethan fell silent at her words, staring at her with an unreadable expression.
A faint smile appeared on his lips.
*Do I no longer love Claire?
Is Seraphine just a distraction?
Yes… everything happened too fast, but…* he whispered in his thoughts.
