Chapter 8

Kai

I can’t let her go. She is my true mate and I want her with everything in my being. I can’t believe I let her walk away, but I plan to put an end to her being hunted, at least by wolves. She is sweet, compassionate, loving, she didn’t ask for this. I sigh and thumb through the paperwork on my desk. I have a meeting with the hunters after they entered my territory without permission. We killed so many of them- well Aaliyah killed most of them, but I will take on the aftermath of that. She is a force thats for sure. I can finally see how she survived. She is so strong, and I want her to be able to drop her guard. Adrien, my wolf, was howling in my head, desperate to seek out his mate. He needed to mark her. The thought of her with any other male out there making him uncontrollable. I take a deep breath to steady my breathing. All of a sudden I feel anger like I have never felt before. I can tell the emotions aren’t mine, and I wonder what is going on. I feel the urge to link Jason, but instead I take a calming breath. How was the bond so strong already? I don’t understand. She is the only thing on my mind for the last few days and I’m struggling to focus on anything else. I need to call a meeting with the elders, I need to clear her name. I want her more than I have ever wanted anything. I think back to having her cornered in my office and my c**k gets hard instantly. She was a virgin, I took that from her. I plan to be the only one she ever has. Her p***y was like silk on my c**k, she took everything out of me, without even trying. I try and steady my hormones and Adrien paces in my head, he wants his mate so bad, I have been struggling to control him.

“Alpha, Aaliyah passed out, my goddess she is strong. Witches came for us and she...I don’t know exactly what she did. Did you know, her wolf wields magic as well? I don’t think a simple talk to the elders is going to be enough, she is stronger than anyone I have ever seen and everyone fears that.”

Fuck. Jason is right. They won’t accept her because they fear her. Adrien growls in my head, pissed that another male is taking care of his mate. She is passed out? Why?

“Why is she passed out...,”

I growl through my mind link. That means she can’t protect herself and I will need to trust my gamma to do it for her. f**k. I slam my fist on my desk, waiting on a reply. There is a knock at my office door, that I refuse to acknowledge as I wait on a reply.

“I’m not sure why she passed out. Her pulse is strong, maybe she is just tired, I will find a place for us to rest tonight and will link you in the morning on how she’s doing. How is the pack? Have you made any headway in the hunter situation?”

The knock at the door sounds again. “Enter”, I say knowing it must be important. Axel walks in with healer Douglas behind him. “Alpha, we may have a situation”, Axel says. I look between both of them, waiting patiently to see what the problem is, but they both hesitate. I growl, “well what is it, spit it out”. Healer Douglas steps forward, “Alpha, I just got the blood work samples back on your mate...she...”, he hesitates. Adrien is now on all fours in my head growling, something is wrong with our mate. “Damnit, Douglas, spit it out”. “Well, alpha, it looks as though your mate went into heat for the first time recently, with her being a mix, I’m not sure how often her heats will be...but now that you know each other, her heats will affect you, no matter how far away she is...Heats are incredibly painful for she wolfs without their mate. I worry that Jason is with her, he won’t be able to control himself and neither will she...” Adrien snarls in my head and anger shakes my entire body at the thought. I struggle to control Adrien as he tries to take over, to go to his mate. f**k. I can’t go on like this, why the f**k is this bond so all-consuming and strong, this isn’t normal. “Not only that alpha”, Douglas continues, “She...her wolf is one with her witch...they have completely embraced each other, I fear that...” he trails off as though deep in thought. “Alpha, if I am correct, if she bears a child with anyone other than you, her mate, the child will kill her. Her wolf and witch are so similar, it is hard to tell the difference, and I doubt anyone other than me would have found it, however, for witches, if they bear children with anyone other than their mate, the child kills them, the pregnancy kills them.” So this will be a problem. We have no idea how often she will go into heat and with me not there, anything can happen. I stand as rage shakes through my body, claws start coming out of my hands and my canines elongate, as I struggle to maintain control. “Leave!” I snarl at them. They both bare their necks in submission before running out of my office. I have to go for a run, Adrien needs out now. I run out of my office and Adrien takes control in an instant, shredding my clothes as I shift. He runs straight to the forest line and takes off. We run for hours before Adrien is tired and returns home. I shift back and walk up the stairs to the packhouse making a mental note to grab some clothes. I need to bring her back, I need to face this with her...We can protect the pack together right? f**k. My own pack would go against me if they knew. We grew up being taught to hate the cursed child. My meeting with the hunters is in the morning and I need to contact the elders for a meeting. I take my phone out as I enter my room for clothes. After this, I will bring her home, I need to at least try. I scroll down until I find Elder Lucas and hit call. The phone rings for a few seconds before he picks up. “What do I owe the pleasure, alpha Kai”? “I need a meeting with the elders as soon as possible.” “What is your reasoning behind this, Alpha?” I hesitate debating if I should tell him the truth or not. “This is about my mate, its very important”, I say, opting out of telling him the whole story. The line goes quiet for a moment before he speaks again, “have you found her, or are you taking a chosen mate?” “I found her, she is my true mate, and we have things to discuss.” “Alright, alpha Kai, tomorrow evening we shall come for dinner and can discuss your future Luna.” With that he hangs up. I leave my room fully clothed and make my way to the dining hall. I look around at all my pack members eating and having a good time. I need to tell them who their Luna will be...After I talk to the elders. We will either go to war, or, if my pack won’t back me, I will leave them and be with her...I now understand why her parents did it. I move to the alpha table, where Axel is sitting. “ We have meetings tomorrow, I need you to make sure the warriors are ready for a war if it comes to that.” Axel turns to me, “You have decided to keep her then?” I take a deep breath, honestly I don’t have a choice, the pull his so strong it physically hurts and I can’t focus on anything else. Right now I am so out of it, my alpha duties are suffering. “Yes, she will be your Luna.” He sighs, “I’m behind you my alpha, I just wish this would of come at a better time. The witches to the North have been sending spies our way. I’m not exactly sure what they are looking for, but it can’t be good.” He’s right, this couldn’t be a worse time, with the hunters breaching my territory and the witch issue. The vampires have been quiet for a long time, they never really showed an interest in what goes on around them. They stay in their territory and don’t communicate with us unless they have to but lately I have noticed some attacks around us, people bled dry. I put my head in my hands, “don’t worry-”, I grin at my beta, “we will be fine, anything that would come at us, would regret they tried.” I grab a plate and fill it with food, “besides, I have my mate now, I will be at my full power, no one would dare come at us now”. They ate in silence for a while. Axel looks at me and smirks, “Kai, I’m happy you finally found your mate.” I grin, “Thanks, I am to.”

“Is there a reason your people think its okay to come into my territory unannounced? The last we talked, we agreed not to enter each others territory without permission,” I said, glaring at Marcus. “The cursed child was in your territory, my men must have been confused on the rule concerning her”, he said with a sly grin. It’s bullshit, they knew exactly what they were doing, they had to of, we had agreed to make sure that each member knew the rules. I growled out, “how do you plan to fix the situation, I could completely forget the agreement and go and slaughter your men?” “Ah alpha Kai, that is assuming you would win, what is it you think, that we do? We spend our lives studying how best to kill wolves, witches, and vampires, we are not afraid of war. I suggest we talk it out like men instead, what is it that you want me to do? You killed the men responsible already, and my people have been rebriefed on the rules, we offer our word that this will not happen again.” Adrien snarls in my head and I slam my hands on the desk “You don’t get to decide that! You are the ones that broke the rules! I want to know what you all are playing at! If the cursed child is on another’s territory, it would be considered mine, that means, whatever money you would of gotten from turning her in would belong to me”, I spat at him. Marcus smiles “I don’t know what they were thinking alpha, as you killed them, but I assure you, I had no knowledge of this.” I stand up fuming, “Marcus whatever you are planning, I would advise you to rethink, make sure your men know the rules, next time I wont hesitate to break the treaty. Leave my territory.” Marcus stands with that same stupid grin on his face that makes me want to rip out his throat. That lying mother fucker. “As always, it was a pleasure, alpha Kai, until next time”. He walks out the the office without another word. I bang my fists on the desk again, he is up to something, and I can’t figure out what. Sighing I stand up. I can’t help but think about my meeting with the elders. I hope it goes better than this one, although a part of me knows that it won’t. I head out of the office to the kitchens to check on the dinner preparations for the dinner, then head out of the pack house to check on the training of the warriors. Coming up on the training field, I see Axel on the sidelines, barking out orders. I grin, my chest swelling with pride at my beta. He was right, he was made for this. I walk over to him, “Axel, I want training to be increased to twice a day instead of once. I also need you to kick the intensity up a notch.” Axel looks at me, “I was waiting for that command, I already did it.” I grin, of course you have. How is that mate of yours?” Axel found his mate a few years ago when I sent him to the Firethorn pack to sign a deal. Emily was a teacher in the pack and followed him here to teach. “Shes great, her heat should be soon, and we are going to try for another pup.” I laugh, “didn’t you guys just have a pup?” “It’s never too early to try again, besides, I can’t keep my hands off her, you will understand soon”, he says with a grin on his face. He has no idea, the only thing I can think about her body on mine. I am consumed by her already, almost to the point of madness because I can’t have her. “Are you nervous about the meeting?” He asks. I sigh, yeah, I mean, I don’t think it's going to be easy to change their minds. They let their fear rule them, we did the same. I don’t know if it's because she's my mate, but it all sounds silly now”. Axel looks out at the warriors not saying anything. “I’ll see you at dinner,” I say before turning and walking away. If the elders didn’t accept her, I would tell them what they want to hear, and have her anyway. There is a reason my moon goddess paired us, and with how strong the mate bond is, it must be important. I make my way to my room to get showered and dressed for the dinner meeting, I was so ready to get this over with and bring my mate home. I get into the shower and quickly wash and get dressed. From the window I can see two cars pull up and the elders get out. I make my way down to the doors to greet them, mind linking Axel of their presence. “Ah aplha Kai, nice to see you, and where is your mate? Elder Lucas says. “Nice to see you as well, Elders, my mate...couldn’t be here. I will lead the way to the dining hall,” I say turning and heading toward the room. They quietly follow, tension is so thick in the air, it’s making it hard to breath. Making it into the dining hall, plates and wine glasses are set of for each person. I make my way to the head of the table, and the elders all take a seat. “So alpha, to what do we owe this pleasure? We haven’t heard from you in quite some time, so this must be important”, Lucas says, calculating my face. I clear my throat, as the omegas bring food into the hall and fill everyone’s plates and glasses. “Elders, can you tell me why we hunt the cursed child? I mean, what exactly makes her cursed? Is it only because she is half witch and half wolf, or is it something else?” The room goes deathly quiet as the elders calculate me, trying to find an answer to a hidden question they have. This time, Elder John speaks up, “The cursed child is an abomination what happens to our race when we start breeding amongst others? We taint the bloodline and our race gets weak. We can not allow her to breed and continue this. There is a reason we have rules, rules to not breed outside our race, rules to live seperately from the others.” Alpha Lucas jumps in, “she is also dangerous, she follows no rules, she has killed countless men, and she could bring to much attention to us, if she gets to close to the humans.” “She has been killing your men because they have been trying to kill her, wouldn’t you defend yourself if you were attacked...?” I say glaring at elder Lucas. The room goes quiet again. “What is behind these questions, young alpha? Elder John asks. I pick my glass up and take a drink, “I simply wonder why we waste our time doing this. We don’t have any proof that it would make our lineage weak, we have no proof she is a monster, besides the fact that she defends herself, as we all would. Why don’t we hear about her going into villages and destroying it? Why is the ONLY thing we hear about her is everyone’s attempt to kill her?” Elder Jones slams his hand down on the table, making everyone’s drink shake, “What is the purpose of this meeting alpha!” He spits. I stand up “I have found my mate and I want to accept her.” Realization dawns on their faces, “you can’t be serious! You need to reject her immediately!” He shouts. “Things aren’t so cut and dry! She is a danger to everyone and must be stopped!” elder John cuts in. I glare in their direction. Elder Lucas is the only one with a straight face, as if deep in thought. “She is my mate, we also have rules that we can’t separate mates, does that mean nothing here?” I growl. Elder Jones goes to stand up, but Lucas grabs his arm. “Alpha Kai has already made his decision, haven’t you alpha? Lucas says quietly. “You know all will attack you, right?” I don’t say anything, and he takes my silence as an answer. “I believe we are done here,” he says, “We have people to inform.” He stands and everyone follows suit “Goodbye, alpha, may the goddess be with you”. They walk out of the dining hall and I get up to follow them to the door, still silent. They leave without saying another word. I guess this is war.
