Chapter1
Chapter 1: I belong on that seat
Grief clung to me like a cloak, seven days since my father died, and it's already suffocating. Standing before a mirror, the weight of his absence and the responsibility that came with it pressed down on me like a crown of thorns. The reflection staring back was pale, haunted, and barely recognizable. A choked sob escaped my lips, the sound was swallowed by the echoing silence of the room.
Suddenly, a violent thud against the door jolted me back to reality. My head jerked towards the door as I pulled my dress up. Bracing myself, I approached the door, only to have the door flung open with a force that nearly sent it crashing into my head. In shock, my eyes glared at two omega, who stood before me, eyes blazing with an intensity that sent chills down my spine. Without a word, they marched towards me and grabbed my shoulder, their grip unyielding as they propelled me forward with a desperate urgency.
I was literally walking on air. "What's happening?" I gasped, confusion and fear knotting my voice. My pleas and questions were met with deaf ears as they dragged me through the halls, their determination unwavering. Thrown ridiculously at Isabella's feet, I scrambled to comprehend the scene unfolding before me. The solemn faces of the elders hovering above did nothing to ease my growing unease. "What is the meaning of this?" I demanded, my voice punctured with defiance, a desperate attempt to reclaim my authority.
Isabella's laughter, sharp as a blade, sliced through the air, sending shivers down my spine." Your naivety has grown tiresome, child," Isabella remarked, her words dripping with disgust as she towered over me with newfound dominance. "It's time you learned your true place. "My blood ran cold. This wasn't a challenge, not a test. It was a coup, a blatant power grab. Rage surged through me, hot and defiant. "If you want to overthrow me," I spat, then duel me, face-to-face!
"She scoffed, her amusement tinged with condescension. "Who said anything about fairness, little Alpha? You are delusional to think you deserve that throne. "I belong on that throne!" I screamed, my voice echoing in the empty auditorium. "No, my dear," she purred, her voice honeyed but poisonous. "You belong exactly where I'm taking you." she ended with a smirk gracing her last word, before I could react, I found myself roughly shoved into a tumbril. The world tilted as I landed on the rough wooden floor, my head spinning with disbelief and confusion.
"You can't do this!" I screamed, scrambling to my feet. But Isabella's laughter was the only reply I got. Fury coiled in my gut, heavy and bitter. How could Isabella do this? Betray my father's memory so cruelly? I had never liked her, but this? And the shameless elders that stood and did nothing after all my father did, This was a whole new level of treason. "You'll regret this, Isabella," I vowed, my voice trembling with rage. "I will find a way to stop you, I swear it. "Isabella only smirked, her eyes gleaming with an unsettling hunger. "Oh, I wouldn't have it any other way, little wolf," she taunted.
As the cart wavered forward my piercing eyes didn't leave Isabella, her son and the rest of her evil crew, each bump jolting my already fractured world. Desperately, I pinched myself, hoping this was some elaborate nightmare, a cruel test devised by my father to rate my strength, But the harsh reality clung to me like a second skin, suffocating me with its cold truth. Tears pricked my eyes, the salt stinging my cheeks. I fought the urge to surrender to the wave of emotions threatening to engulf me. Weakness was a weapon I couldn't afford, not with unknown dangers lurking in the shadows.
I begged the rider from my wooden cage, hoping he would have at least a little mercy or pity and let me go, but all my pleas had no response. It was then I realized how lonely I was in this. Finally, the cart came to a halt. Panic clawed at my throat as the door creaked open. My escape plan, hastily formed during the journey, fidgeted over the sight of Alpha Marcus. His calm demeanor masked the predator beneath. Fear coiled in my stomach, icy and sharp, but I knew I had to think fast. He approached slowly, his steps measured, like a cat stalking its prey. Fear snaked through my veins, but I forced my mind to race, searching for an escape.
Now my resolve hardened with each step he took. I wouldn't be his captive without a fight. As his hand reached out to touch me, his voice was smooth and deceptively gentle, "Come on down, princess" a contorted smile displayed on his lips. I saw the glint of his true intentions in his eyes. With a surge of adrenaline, I moved deeper into the tumbril, "Don't touch me!" I spat, my voice laced with defiance. Frustration contorted his face. He lunged as deep, grabbing my arm with the force of a vise, he dragged me out.
The ground rushed up to meet me as he yanked me from the cart, my breath catching in my throat. As he dragged me along, his grip firm and unrelenting, I knew I had to act fast. "I'm an Alpha!" I snarled, my voice shaking but firm. "You can't treat me like this!"Marcus scoffed. "Still deluded, are we? What Alpha rides in a tumbril?"Fury fueled me. With a surge of desperation, I sank my teeth into his arm. He yelped in surprise, momentarily releasing his grip. It was a small victory, but it gave me the chance I needed. I tore away from him free and sprinted towards the nearest cover, his curses and shouts echoing behind me.Hidden amongst the bushes, I held my breath, praying the darkness would cloak my escape. This nightmare had to end., wouldn't rest until it did.
