Elena's POV:
I was dumped into the dungeon just the way this horrible life was dumped on me. I stayed exactly where I was dumped, still with no will to live. The thought of suicide started displaying in my head. Only if I didn't have to save my pack from the hands of that evil woman, I would probably have lost my entire will to live, Laying almost lifeless and smelly on the cold floor, nobody dared bring food or even the very least water to me. I reserved my energy, racking my head for a way out of my nightmare, was still in my thought process when I heard some guards discussing. "We have to find a bigger stone to replace that one," one guard muttered, his voice tinged with urgency.
"Why can't he just block it? What if someone escapes through that tunnel?" another guard questioned, his brow furrowed with concern." Who would dare?" the first guard scoffed, a mocking laugh escaping his lips. "No one has ever dared to defy Marcus. They'd be a fool to even risk it. "The second guard shook his head, his expression grim. "You never know. Desperation can drive even the most timid to take risks. "At that point I felt like that guard knew what was running through my mind. I listened intently to the guards' conversation, and a glimmer of hope ignited within me.
A tunnel? Could this be the key to my escape? My heart raced with anticipation as I clung to the faint guarantee of freedom. Somehow, the tiny flicker of hope that had ignited within me helped ease my troubled mind, allowing me to drift into a peaceful sleep. Despite the cold, damp floor of my cell, I found relief in the possibility of freedom. Two days later, the heavy iron gate to my dungeon was swung open, the grating sound echoing through the dimly lit corridor. With an instruction to go to the dining table, I dragged my weary body to the dining table where Marcus awaited, his smirk was sparkling even in the dim light.
"I hope you've learned your lesson," he sneered, his eyes gleaming with cruel satisfaction as he gestured for me to hold his meal. I said nothing, my spirit broken, and my body drained from the relentless torment. Holding the tray with trembling hands and legs, I stood silently as Marcus bored me with his twisted version of power and dominance. "You know I like you," he continued, his voice dripping with false affection. "But you must remember your place. You are nothing more than a prisoner in my mansion." After he bragged about how mighty he was and finished his food, I retired to my room with no door, left as a mess as it was.
The horrible scene replayed in my head. I shed the tattered rags that clung to my body, feeling the weight of my misery settle upon me like a suffocating blanket. Nadia entered the room with a mixture of concern and sympathy etched on her face. " Are you going to go n***d in the open? "I scoffed "What's the point, I am sure everyone has seen the best of me. Nadia gave me a pitiful stare. Ignoring my state of undress, she enveloped me in a comforting embrace, her presence a beacon of light in this nightmare. It upset me that I was pitiful. Two months ago, people were envious of me. With Nadia's assistance, I managed to clean myself up. After I finished cleaning up, Nadia helped me tidy my room. She brought in a big tray of food that satisfied my hunger. At that moment I couldn't love her less.
Nadia's eyes lit up with hope as I recounted the guards' conversation. Without hesitation, we conspired on a plan to search for the concealed tunnel by midnight. Fueled by renewed resolve and the faintest glimmer of hope, we swore to seize any possible chance. As midnight approached, Nadia and I stealthily made our way through the dimly lit corridors of the mansion. We moved with caution, mindful of the guards patrolling the halls. Finally, we reached the spot where we predicted the tunnel might be located. We began to search, our hands skimming along the cold stone walls in search of any irregularities. After what felt like an eternity, my fingers brushed against a loose stone. With a sense of urgency, I pushed against it, and to our relief, it shifted, revealing a narrow passage hidden behind.
"Okay, this is scary," Nadia exclaimed, her voice barely above a whisper as she cast a nervous glance over her shoulder. "But at the same time, it's our best shot," I replied, trying to inject a note of confidence into my tone. "We can't let fear hold us back now. "Nadia hesitated, chewing nervously on her lower lip. "Let's get back before the guards notice us," she suggested, her voice tinged with uncertainty.I shook my head resolutely. "No, why go back when we can just free ourselves of these horrible shackles?" I countered, my resolve firm. "We have a chance to escape, right here, right now.
"Nadia's eyes widened in disbelief. "Now?" she repeated, her voice tinged with doubt.I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. "What's holding you back?" I asked, my voice steady despite the tremor of fear coursing through me. With a deep breath, Nadia squared her shoulders, her expression determined. "Nothing," she replied, her voice echoing with newfound determination. "Let's do this. "My heart raced as I stepped into the hidden passage, my eyes slowly adjusting to the darkness.
Nadia followed close behind me, and we continued through the winding tunnel, our footsteps echoing against the stone walls. As we neared the end of the tunnel, we began to hear the muffled sounds of voices. I pressed a finger to my lips, signaling to Nadia to remain silent. We crept forward, our breath held, until we reached the end of the tunnel. Peering through a narrow c***k in the stone, I saw the source of the voices, a group of guards gathered around a small tale. They were engrossed in conversation, their faces illuminated by the flickering light of a single lantern.
