The cavern burned with light and chaos.
Patrick’s five tails lashed behind him, each one a storm of fire and gold. The shattered crystal fragments floated in the air like glowing shards of memory.
Across from him, Captain Renji rose slowly, his armor scorched, his blade cracked-yet his eyes burned with unwavering resolve.
“Five tails…” he muttered. “Then the legends were true.”
Patrick’s voice echoed-both human and divine.
“I didn’t ask for this power.”
Renji leveled his sword. “Power asks for nothing. It just destroys.”
The Battle Begins
Renji moved first, faster than sight-a blur of silver and moonlight. His sword gleamed with divine runes as he shouted,
“Moonlight Art: Crescent Bind!”
Arcs of light shot through the cavern, forming a circle around Patrick. The symbols burned, sealing his movement.
Patrick spread his hands, golden fire gathering in his palms. “You never learn.”
He released it-a shockwave of flame that shattered the seals and threw Renji backward into the cavern wall.
Renji hit the stone, blood running down his cheek-but his eyes were still fierce. He pressed another talisman to his chest, whispering a prayer.
The talisman flared, and for a brief moment, Renji’s body glowed with the Moon Goddess’s light.
“I don’t need to defeat you,” he said. “Just hold you here until the Priestess arrives.”
Patrick froze. “Priestess?”
Renji smiled grimly. “You’ll remember her soon enough.”
The Moon Priestess Awakens
Far above, in the Spirit Hunter’s fortress, the High Seer stood before a pool of moonlit water.
The reflection shimmered, revealing a young woman lying upon an alter, her hair pale silver, her body surrounded by sigils.
Her eyes snapped open.
Moonlight poured through the ceiling, and her voice echoed through the temple-soft but commanding.
“He’s awake.”
The High Seer bowed deeply. “Welcome back, Lady Selene.”
Selene sat up slowly, eyes glowing faintly.
“The fox has found his first tail. The world trembles again.”
The Seer lowered her gaze. “He is heading toward the second seal. Shall we strike him down?”
Selene looked toward the horizon, her voice distant.
“No. I will face him myself.”
A single tear slid down her cheek, glowing like silver light.
“Because once… I loved him.”
Back in the Cavern
Patrick staggered, the echo of that same voice rippling through his mind. He saw flashes-a silver-haired girl beneath cherry blossoms, a vow whispered under a blood moon, a kiss before fire.
His power faltered. “That voice…”
Renji seized the moment, charging forward. Their blades-one steel, one flame-clashed, sending shockwaves through the cavern.
The roof began to collapse, rocks falling like meteors.
Aiko ran to edge, shouting, “Patrick!”
He turned to her-and in that single glance, lost focus.
Renji’s sword struck true.
Patrick gasped, golden blood blooming across his chest.
Aiko screamed, rushing to him. “No!”
Patrick’s knees hit the ground. His vision dimmed, the fire around him fading.
Renji raised his sword for the final blow-but hesitated.
Patrick looked up, his voice weak but steady.
“If you kill me… you’ll become what I was.”
Renji’s grip trembled. For the first time, doubt flickered in his eyes.
Then a flash of silver light cut through the cavern-a beam of moonlight piercing the clouds above.
A voice, clear as crystal, filled the air.
“Enough.”
Both men froze.
A figure descended within the moonbeam-a woman cloaked in white, her eyes glowing silver.
Renji dropped to one knee. “Moon Priestess Selene…”
Patrick stared, breathless. “Selene…?”
She looked at him with sorrow-and a trace of recognition.
“It’s been a thousand years, my fox.”
The Moon Meets the Fire
Time seemed to stop. The blue flames dimmed, the cavern silent but for the echo of her words.
Patrick whispered, “You… were real.”
Selene stepped closer. “I was your light once.
And your curse.”
She placed a hand over his wound-it glowed, the blood turning to light. “Your fire is awakening too quickly. You’ll destroy yourself.”
Patrick grabbed her wrist. “Then help me remember. Help me end it.”
Her eyes softened. “You can’t end what you are. But perhaps… you can change it.”
Behind them, Renji lowered his sword, confusion and awe etched on his face.
Selene turned to him. “Captain, stand down. He is not you enemy.”
Renji hesitated. “My orders-“
“Come from me now,” she said.
Renji bowed. “Yes, Priestess.”
She looked back at Patrick. “There are eight seals left. If you break them alone, the world will burn again. So you won’t do this alone.”
Patrick’s golden eyes met her silver ones.
“ Then what are you asking me to do?”
Selene smiled faintly.
“Travel with me. Let the moon walk beside the fire once more.”
