“First of all, I’m really sorry about how things ended between us Bunny. You are the sweetest person I know and definitely didn’t deserve…”
“Please cut this out and get direct, Collins. You know I hate suspense” Taria interrupted Collins' speech
“Oh yeah! Sorry about that” Collins cleared his throat and scratched his head like he regretted starting the conversation in the first place.
“So…you know when I left to stay with my mom in the human world?”
“Mmhmm?” Taria said, giving him all amount of concentration.
“I didn’t leave because I wanted to. I saw you spiraling when we found out we weren't mates. I went to the human world to meet a witch to bind you to Vinca because I knew an Alpha's protection was the only thing that would keep you from losing your mind completely. I traded my potency to make sure you recover and have all the protection and chance to build your family "
Taria felt like the world was spinning. The words reached her ears, but they didn't make sense. She let out a jagged, sarcastic laugh, her palms stinging as she clapped them together.
“Collins, you wouldn’t dare. Tell me you’re joking right now!”
She said, whirling her fingers by the side of her head, like she was trying to understand what was going on.
“I’m sorry Taria..” Collins merely finished when a loud crack of slap echoed through the garden leaving his cheeks burning red.
“What do you really think you are? My savior? You think I'm that weak? You think I needed a low-life coward like you to buy me a life?" Taria yelled. It began to make sense why Vinca had always treated her that way. She realizes her relationship with Vinca isn't fate at all, but it’s a pity-trap set by her one time lover.
Taria collapsed, squatting on the grass and wrapping her arms around herself as the first sob tore through her throat. This was worse than the ghosting. This was the realization that her "perfect" life was a house of cards.
“You have caused me so much pain in a few minutes that people experience in their lifetime”.
Collins reached for her, his eyes full of the same pity she had spent years trying to escape. “You were dying, Bunny. Your wolf was fading because of the heartbreak. I couldn't let you go. I told the witch to save you, to give you a reason to stay in this world.”
“I didn’t need saving, Collins. I was going to heal eventually. You didn’t have to play the Hero!” Taria sobbed more.
Collins immediately regretted everything he had done. He should have fought for their love in the first place. It would never have gotten to this point.
Taria immediately stood up and wiped her eyes. She left Collins standing in the garden and headed straight into her father’s house.
She came out a few minutes after with her purse and a drink in her hand. The car lights blinked as she tapped the unlock buttons on the car key
“Get in the car. You are taking me to your accomplice to undo this nonsense you did” she said in so much rage
“Bunny, we can’t drive at this time to the human world on our own”
“Get in the car!” She was seated in the car this time and waiting for Collins to take his seat.
“What if it can’t be reversed? What if….”
“ Shut up and get in the fucken car Collins” Taria’s eyes burned red. She had partially shifted to her wolf and left a mild grunt.
Collins didn’t want to alert anybody at the house. So he jumped into the passenger seat and they zoomed off.
………………………… …………………….. …………….
Rachael had been posted to the top floor to handle the cleaning of the Alphas chambers. It was the worst thing Madam Hazier could have done to her, by bringing directly under the lights of Alpha Vinca. It has been a difficult one, hiding her scents from everyone, especially the Alphas. The potion she took could barely mask her scent when in really close contact with any alpha.
It was the day of the Aegis Summit and suitcases, boxes and all necessities were being packed into Alpha Vinca’s SUV.
Alpha Vinca wore a black jacket over his bare chest, matched with a pair of black trousers. He loved his hair a little messy but his beards were neatly trimmed. He had luxury silver accessories on and his fragrance trailed along the whole tower as he moved by.
“We have a problem My Alpha” Lincoln walked briskly towards Vinca.
Vinca took a pause “Speak!”
“The omega that was to come with is is severely ill and being managed by the nurses” Lincoln reported
“And how is that supposed to be a problem? How can she not be replaced, is she the moon goddess?” Vinca responded in anger
“ Not at all my Alpha, just thought to keep you informed”.
“Dont piss me off Lincoln, Do your fucken job”
“Yes my Alpha” Lincoln bowed and ran down the hallway.
“You! I need you to change immediately and grab a few things. I will give you 5 minutes to meet me downstairs. You better not be a second late” Lincoln ordered Rachael.
She was holding a mop bucket and mop stick headed to go tidy up the bathrooms. She didn’t even get a chance to process the information before Lincoln’s voice thundered again “Move, Now!”
She quickly ran down the stairs, changed into fresh clothes and threw a couple of basics into a small backpack and dashed out. It quickly dawned on her that she will be spending the weekend with Alpha Vinca. She ran back to her room and downed the whole bottle of the potion and hurried out to meet them.
Vinca got to his SUV and the door was opened for him. He made a quick glance at the fleets of other cars parked around and paused. He removed his dark shades which he had on and scanned the environment again. He noticed his step brother’s car was still there and there was no sign of him leaving the tower anytime soon. He then gestured to Lincoln to come closer.
“ My Father and Arthur are not attending this summit?”
Vinca asked in really hushed tones
“Yes My Alpha. They both were uncertain as of yesterday, but this morning, the Lycan king personally told me he won't be coming and that Arthur has to stay back with him to watch over the Tower” Lincoln explained in the same low tone.
“Is he worried that Bastian will show up?” Vinca licked his lips slowly “That isn’t even a reason. Everyone knows Bastian hates all those formal gatherings” He answered himself immediately
“You know what? Change of plans” Vinca signaled Rufus to come close. “You stay back, I want your eyes on My father and Arthur. I need information on their private discussions and any physical activity that will be taking place amongst both of them while I’m away.”
“Yes My Alpha” Rufus bowed
“You better deliver” Vinca finally stepped into his SUV and drove off, while Lincoln and Rachael followed as escorts in another sleek, black, Benz.
~AEGIS SUMMIT~
Rachael felt the shift the second they crossed the invisible line onto the Aegis Estate. It was like a slam, shoving her wolf into a dark, hollow corner of her mind. She suddenly felt more human and less wolf-like.
She stepped out of the car and tried to smooth her skirt with trembling hands, before reaching to the back of the car to grab the Alpha’s luggages. She suddenly felt a heavy look on her. She didn't have to look up to know who it was.
Alpha Vinca was standing by the lead SUV, his dark shades off and his head tilted. He was looking at her. His nostrils flared, his chest expanding as he caught a stray, golden note of a scent that definitely didn't belong to a lowly Hilton Omega.
"Wait," Vinca growled. The sound was a low vibration that seemed to pierce into Rachael’s very bones.
He took a slow, predatory step toward her, his eyes narrowed in suspicion. "You! Who did you say your parents were again?"
Rachael froze, her heart hammering against her ribs so hard she was sure he could hear it. The potion was failing and she was on the verge of getting caught and interrogated in a human world of all places.
