A Witches tale: Nelaf

2042 Words
Salina woke with a start!  She revisited the message sent to her by her son Levand. Getting up she walked into her kitchen to fix a cup of coffee. She had been so lost in the new information her son had provided her that she didn't realize that the headache she had been fighting was now gone. The weakness she had been plagued with was now replaced with a strength she had not had since her younger days. Her morning thoughts were on this werewolf that her son had fallen in love with. After all these years would she be able to find her. Surely she had clues that could help her. They now know that she could not be found before due to Leland's magic being much stronger than what the Coven had knowledge of. Not surprising. He had always been a curious boy. Always being found under everyone's feet in his youth. Full of questions at every turn.  Salinas pov: Levand, had been a fairly tall warlock at 5 foot ten. Most Warlocks were shorter in statue being 5 foot four if lucky. He was known to walk by and prop himself up on all of us shorter than him, often amusing himself at his small joke. Outside of the sense of humor he carried he was a very responsible young warlock, which is why when he disappeared and I could not mindlink him I knew that something was wrong. I had tried for three days to use my magic ball. The ball had remained black. I had mindlinked him repeatedly. I wanted to form enough open waves for the link to remain on open so He could contact me no matter how strong or weak he was. The waves could be seen traveling beyond what the visual eyes could see. Each wave woven around any form, any structure, any being.  On day three I had news that a body had been found that was wrapped in concealment sheets that was sealed with a spell. The elders were working on revealing the body. I mindlinked my sister of the news. She was as anxious about the news as I. She and I went to the entrance where the body had been discovered. The body seemed to be delivered to the entrance by the same magic that has it sealed and protected. In my heart I already felt my sons presence in form before ever reaching the body. Upon arriving I can remember the tears that were already falling as all of my motherly senses where feeling the connection. I did not need my magic to feel the connection. The corpse was beckoning me to come forward and claim ownership.  Even in death the mother and son bond held true. I walked to the area to which the body was lying. Many of the fellow coven members were standing close by but none had touched the body. The elders had formed a circle around the being. Arms and hands linked while they were chanting. Some spells were protective spells to protect all of us. Some spells were spells to undo the enchanted bindings to reveal what waited to be uncovered. Witches were very superstitious people and a covered body laying at the entrance of the coven was indeed a great event for pause. An event such as this has never happened before. Pushing people aside so I could make my way to where the body was became a painful task as everyone seemed grounded to there spot. "Move aside girl," I can remember saying to Sengery as she was the last witch in my way to get to Levand. I already knew that it was he that was drawing me there. Sengery stepped aside and I pushed beneath the chain created be the elders bodies. Someone reached out to grab me back and grabbed ahold of my shawl instead of me.  I could hear whom ever it was yelling for me to stop. I touched my hands upon the linens covering my boy. At my touch the long shredded pieces began to unravel to reveal my son laying in an almost hypnotic state. I lost my ability to breath.  I looked for any signs of breathing as my hands began to roam my sons body. There were no signs of wounds. No outward wounds were visible.  I was murmuring spells to wake him and tasking my hands with making his eyes open. Touching upon his heart to make it beat yet again. I felt his presence leave his being and leave me laying beside his empty shell of a body on the ground. My scream at his departure should have been able to wake the dead. I could feel the hands of my sister upon my shoulders and the presence of the mighty thirteen standing behind me. All of them had started chanting and mindlinking during the time I was exploring my sons body. My tough had caused his soul to awake. My touch had triggered his soul to flee. I could feel the powers around me. With so many strong beings in one place we should have been able to catch my sons soul before it departed and forced him to stay, heal, and give us answers. All his soul said on departing was find Nelaf. What is Nelaf? He didn't say what Nelaf was. In a witches world that left alot of hunting to be done. It could be a spell, it could be a potion, not just a place or a being.  Sengerys POV: I stood rooted to the spot. I had not wanted the scene before me to come to pass. What I had wanted was to find Levand and bring him back to the folds of the coven, back to me. I stood picturing him that first summer when we first became fast friends. We were in our first touch of youth, We had crossed paths outside the elders tent where neither of us should have been. Knowing full well that our learned magic at that time could not hide us from being detected by the elders that we were spying on. The original thirteen were up to something and we were young and curious. Mostly we were just nosy and needed to be in anyone and everyone's business at that time as we were bored.  We had got caught up in our excitement together. We would steal away often to come spy on the elders. We could tell on the days we had been caught as the elders would set traps to catch us. Now mind you, it was a game of cat and mouse for Levand and myself. Some how we always tended to be the mouse as the elders always knew. We would end up being entertainment for the elders in all of our adventures on out smarting them while we tried to spy. We never gave up. We tried all that summer as we were away from our studies.  There was this one time that I thought well, I can not out smart the elders but I can out smart Levand. I had cast an illusion spell to hide myself amongst the brush. Easy magic, one of the first spells the youth were taught in order to protect us from dangers that we could not out run. In our youth we were not taught how to transport places. I think mostly so our parents wouldn't be able to loose track of us. That spell was only taught as the elders felt we were mature enough to understand not to use it unless the dangers of a situation called for it. Some amongst us still had not learned it even in the aged years. I was sitting. Blending in with a bush. I had just about given up on Levand showing up this day. When I finally heard his voice whispering my name as he was getting closer to out designated meeting spot. I was giddy preparing my self to smash a mud pie at his face when that mud pie flew up and fell straight upon my head. Levand had been standing behind me the entire time undetected. He had finally gotten bored waiting on me to find him out so he cast a spell to carry his voice. He had indeed been sneaky in that. That was my Levand, He was always light hearted and always brought me happiness.  I was brought out of my happy musings by his mothers hands pushing me out of the way. "Move girl!" Was all she had said as she pushed me it brought me back to the scene before me. The scene of my beloved Levand lying in death for all of the coven to bare witness too. I barely heard the chanting of the elders. I was to busy watching the glare of Levand's soul raising above his corpse. I heard him tell his mother to find Nelaf. I knew what Nelaf was. To us as children. Nelaf, the name we as children would call our most prized possessions. It was simple really the name of the coven is Falen. As kids we would say it in reverse when wanted each other to know what we were talking about was a secret no one knew about. If we said I need to talk to you about Nalef we knew it was meant to be spoken in secret. We had a secret place that was our place to meet when the Nalef code word was used. We hadnt used that word in years. I believe that Levand knew I would know what that meant.  I haven't been to our secret spot in forever. As children we shared many secrets in this tiny spot. Nalef was not located directly inside the coven. It was located close by. The last time we were both there we had cast a concealment spell together so know one else could disturb it. Walking about fifty feet in the woods to the left of the entrance to the Coven living quarters the brush and greenery around it did look disturbed even by the critters that lived here. I walked up to a long branch with long braded vines, these vines were weighted down with large purplish pink blooms. The scent of these blooms trigerred so many memories of long ago. Levand was my first real friend. My first love. Pushing aside the vines revealing a hollowed out tree trunk just right for a much smaller child to enter. I had to drop down on my hands and knees to crawl into the open space. Once into the center I wiggled to a standing position and began to run my hands over the inner walls hunting for the hidden crevasses that we had created on our many adventures here. My hand felt around until my hand touched a small wooden tube. I whispered the pass phrase I knew Levand would have cast to seal the tube. As I spoke the magic words, the bark peal back to show two parchment rolls. One with the letter S that sparkled and I knew it was meant for me. The other spelled mother on it so I knew I needed to deliver it to his mother. I ran my fingers around all the small spaces as I knew we had many hidden spots. In one I found my first wand. While I do not use a wand now and neither did Levand, as children when playing the elders we pretended our wands held all sorts of magic. Mostly I liked to use it to hit Levand in the head when he had pestered me more than my patience could take. Man I sure have missed him, Coming here held so many memories. We should have done better by our friendship in keeping contact. With the ability to mindlink each other we really had no excuses. Life got busy for each of us and we were lazy taking for granted  we had lots of time to catch up later on. Tucking it in the loose folds of my long dress I wiggled back down and crawled back out and headed to go visit Miss Salina.
