Chapter 1: Introduction
Hazel:
I'm not pretty like the other girls in the pack. Stop. Rephrase. I am not pretty in the SAME WAY that they are pretty, with their thin frames and delicate features. I am strong. I have muscles and curves. I am what some may say is shorter than average. My eyes are a shimmering green brown that you don't see any where else, other than the eyes of my twin brother and our father. My hair is thick and a slightly red shade of auburn that dyes won't replicate. My eyelashes are long and my skin is dotted with freckles. A new one catches my eye as I look at my reflection in the stream. I take a deep breath and listen to the leaves rustling above me. I have always felt most at peace in these woods. I have always done my best thinking near the water.
"It has been a LOOONG day" I think to myself as I exhale. My father is the Alpha of the River Run Pack and tomorrow he will pass his duties down to my twin brother, Huxley. Hux and I have been inseparable for most of our lives. We have known since birth that he would one day become Alpha and lead our pack, and has trained to do so since he could walk. I have trained along side him, which is probably why I am so much stronger than the other females of our pack. In our culture, female werewolves do not train the same way that males do. My mother died before Hux and I could walk. My Father was never granted a second mate, so the three of us have always done everything together, including training. We have spent the last several days preparing for the ceremony. My role is one of support, so it isn't that big of a deal, but I have a lot on my mind. Hux whispered to me over breakfast this morning that he found his mate last night.
When you are a werewolf in your human form, your wolf is always with you. It is almost like they are asleep until your 18th birthday, then suddenly they wakeup. At that point you can transition, have conversations with each other, etc.. but many will say one of the most exciting things of all is that once your wolf is awake, it becomes possible to find your mate. The gods assign each wolf a mate and, allegedly, when you find each other, you know immediately. Your wolves go crazy and the attraction is unlike anything you've ever experienced. I'll believe it IF I see it. I've never known any she wolves to be matched with each other, and I have literally never slid my long, strong fingers between my legs while thinking about making a MAN moan with my tongue.
"Helloooo" I hear a voice say, almost startling me. "Let's go for a run. It always helps us work out our thoughts". My wolf is right. She normally is. I slowly rise from the river bank and begin to remove my clothes to keep from ripping them. In the water I catch a glimpse of my figure. My strong thighs, curvy hips, ample butt, small waist. My breasts are not large, but carry themselves proudly. I laugh at myself because I really am a pear with legs. I close my eyes and begin to turn, feeling my bones crack and elongate, remembering the first time I did this a few short years ago. Then it was so painful. Now it is second nature, only tickling a little as the hairs sprout. When I open my eyes again a large, red she wolf stands on the river bank. I take a deep breath inhaling all the scents of the forest, heightened even more than normal by my wolf state, and take off for the trees.
