Chapter One
As we walked through the streets, the city's vibrant energy was infectious. We passed by street vendors, cafes, and shops, taking in the sights and sounds. Sophia chatted about her latest fashion finds, and I laughed, trying to shake off the lingering unease.
We stopped at a small café, where Sophia insisted on buying me a pastry. As we sat down at a tiny table, I noticed a man watching us from across the street. He was tall, with piercing blue eyes that seemed to bore into my soul. I felt a shiver run down my spine as our eyes met.
"Who's that?" I whispered to Sophia, nodding towards the man.
She followed my gaze and frowned. "I don't know, but he looks like trouble."
The man didn't seem to notice us staring at him. He was too busy typing away on his phone. But I couldn't shake off the feeling that he was watching me, waiting for something to happen.
As we finished our pastries and prepared to leave, the man vanished into the crowd. I breathed a sigh of relief, telling myself I was just being paranoid.
But as we walked back to the estate, I couldn't shake off the feeling that my life was about to change in ways I couldn't imagine.
When we returned, my father's assistant, Marcus, was waiting for me in the foyer. "Alessia, your father wants to see you," he said, his voice firm but polite.
I nodded, feeling a sense of trepidation. What did my father want now?
As I followed Marcus to my father's study, I couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead. Was it related to the mysterious meeting he had scheduled for tomorrow? And who was the man with the piercing blue eyes?
As I entered my father's study, he was sitting behind his massive mahogany desk, his eyes fixed on me. The room was dimly lit, with only a few rays of sunlight peeking through the curtains.
"Alessia, sit down," he said, his voice firm but controlled.
I took a seat in the chair opposite his desk, trying to read his expression. But as usual, it was unreadable.
"I want to go over the details for tomorrow's meeting," he said, his eyes scanning some papers on his desk. "You'll be meeting Matteo De Luca, the son of one of our... associates."
I felt a shiver run down my spine. Who was Matteo De Luca, and what did he want from me?
"What do you know about him?" I asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
My father leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers together. "Matteo is a brilliant businessman, just like his father. He's ruthless, cunning, and always gets what he wants."
I swallowed hard, feeling a sense of unease. What kind of person was I about to meet?
"What's the purpose of this meeting?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
My father's expression didn't change, but his eyes seemed to gleam with something. "Let's just say that Matteo is interested in allying with our family. And I think it's in our best interest to... explore this opportunity."
I nodded, trying to process what he was saying. An alliance with the De Luca family? What did that mean for me, for our family?
Just then, my father's phone buzzed, and he answered it. "Yes?" he barked.
As he listened to the person on the other end, his expression darkened. "Deal with it," he snapped, before hanging up.
I felt a surge of fear. What was going on?
"Is everything okay?" I asked, trying to sound calm.
My father looked at me, his eyes piercing. "Everything's fine, Alessia. Just remember, tomorrow's meeting is crucial. Don't disappoint me."
I nodded, feeling a sense of determination. I would do whatever it took to make sure our family's empire remained safe.
But little did I know, tomorrow would bring more than just a meeting. It would bring a choice that would change my life forever.
The rest of the day passed in a blur as I prepared for the meeting with Matteo De Luca. My father had given me strict instructions on how to behave, what to wear, and what to say. I was to be charming, polite, and accommodating. Anything less would be a reflection on our family's reputation.
As the evening drew to a close, I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. Who was Matteo De Luca? And what did he want from me?
I tried to distract myself by watching a movie, but my mind kept wandering back to the meeting. Sophia had texted me a few times, asking if I was okay, but I hadn't replied. I didn't know what to say.
As I lay in bed, I felt a sense of restlessness. Tomorrow was going to be a big day, and I wasn't sure if I was ready.
The next morning, I woke up early, feeling a mix of nerves and anticipation. I got dressed in the outfit my father had chosen for me – a elegant black dress that accentuated my curves. I did my hair and makeup, trying to look poised and confident.
As I made my way downstairs, my father was waiting for me in the foyer. He looked me up and down, his expression approving.
"You look perfect, Alessia," he said, his voice firm. "Remember, this meeting is crucial. Don't disappoint me."
I nodded, feeling a surge of determination. I would do whatever it took to make sure our family's empire remained safe.
My father handed me a small folder containing some information about Matteo De Luca. I scanned it quickly, taking in the key points. He was 30 years old, a successful businessman with a reputation for being ruthless. He had a dark past, but my father hadn't elaborated on what that meant.
As we drove to the meeting location, I felt my nerves building up. What would Matteo De Luca be like? Would I be able to handle him?
When we arrived at the luxurious restaurant, I was greeted by a tall, imposing figure with piercing blue eyes. It was the same man I had seen watching me with Sophia yesterday.
"Alessia," my father said, his voice low. "This is Matteo De Luca."
I felt a shiver run down my spine as Matteo's eyes locked onto mine. What was happening?
