Jessica gave Kyle a lift home. They sat in the back of her car as it wound through the streets. The windscreen wipers smeared the rain across the glass, making the lights outside of the car swell and merge and create an armada of UFOs that stalked them through the city. Jessica asked for the window to lower just a little bit and the car obeyed. Jessica lit a cigarette. ‘You look like you could do with one, too,’ she said. Kyle stopped staring out the window turning away from the raindrop haze racing one another to the bottom of the pane and pooling together in unity.
