Chapter 1
Serena POV
I was running through the forest when I sensed something approaching me. I sniffed the air and smelled the scent of rotting meat and death.
Rogues
I thought, smiling to myself. I never turned down a good fight, the chance to tear flesh from bone was a welcome one. I stood my ground waiting for the group to approach me. As they came nearer, I was able to make out five shifted wolves. They surrounded me, canines bared, the leader growled before lunging at me, aiming straight for my jugular. Before he could reach me, I sidestepped and sunk my teeth into the back of his neck, tossing him into the nearest tree. Getting back to his feet, he gave a silent gesture for the rest of the wolves to charge me. One leaped onto my back trying to pin me down, but I was strong, shaking him off while simultaneously clawing at the others, trying to injury them in any way I could.
My claws registered in the side of the rogue nearest to me. The blow sent him sprawling backwards. The next slashed at me but I was faster and ripped out his throat. A sharp sting of claws on my right flank brought my attention to the two remaining uninjured fools who dared try to attack me. I quickly leaped onto the back of one, pinning him while simultaneously slashing at the other. I heard a sickening crack followed by a loud yelp of pain. I quickly finished the two off and turned to find the injured rogues trying to sneak off while I was distracted, not wanting to take part in the blood bath anymore.
Pfft. Like I was going to let them escape.
I ran after them, grabbing the one with the gash in his side by the hind leg. I threw him into a tree, knocking him unconscious. Changing back to my human form, I grabbed a length of rope from my bag I had stashed nearby. I bound his legs together to stop him from escaping while I dealt with the last wolf. Following the still strong scent, I tracked him about two miles to a stream. He seemed to have relaxed a little, tending to his injuries.
This dumbass thinks he has lost me.
I snuck around behind him, extending my claws. I quickly cut his Achilles tendons in his hind legs. He let out a pain-filled howl and unsuccessfully tried to get away. I bound his limbs with another length of rope and dragged him back to where I had left the other. Grabbing the other rogue, I dragged them both to a small abandoned cabin I had found since coming to the area. I strapped one to the table I had set up for this occasion, leaving the other bound on the floor. I opened a drawer where I had the instruments of my favorite hobby stashed. Donning a pair of gloves, I extracted the silver instruments from the drawer as well as a vial of liquid. At the sight of the wicked-looking, sharp instruments, the wolf on the table flinched and whimpered, trying to escape my wrath.
The look on my face said it all. I was going to enjoy torturing my little plaything. I felt no remorse for what I was about to do. The world is a cruel place and it broke me, so now I am going to break it and the people who were unlucky enough to get in my way. I had some morals left. I would not kill children, but everyone else was fair game. There had been many on my table, my 'experiments' as I liked to call them. I could tell you the fastest ways to kill a person or wolf, or I could describe in great detail the most tortuous, painful way. I was not a person to cross because the people who crossed me ended up begging for death.
I grabbed a needle, coating it in wolfsbane. I looked at my target then and grabbed his hand, holding it still. I shoved the needle under one of his nails into the nail bed. With wolfsbane entering his system, he reverted to his human form lying on the table. I looked at him with a maniacal smile on my face.
"Now, I have a few questions for you. Answer me truthfully and I will be merciful, ending your life quickly. Don't ... and well you know what is going to happen."
I said, twirling a second needle between my fingers. The man nodded in affirmation, seeming to already have been pushed to his limit.
"Are there any more of you in the area? Don't lie to me. I will know if you are lying."
Listening intently to his heartbeat, I gestured for him to continue.
"f**k you!"
he yelled, spitting in my face.
I have to give him some credit. He had more guts than I thought or maybe he was just really stupid.
" If that's your final answer, then let's have some fun, shall we?"
I embedded the second needle under his nail. The man screamed in pain. At that moment, the door to the cabin burst in.
