32 Vanessa was uncomfortable; they’d had no news and, making use of the senior police officers in her pocket, she was informed of a shooting below her son’s flat. The police reassured her this appeared to be a settling of scores between local hoodlums and her son was fine. They offered to check, but she declined, thanked them, and dispatched another team.
