Lily’s POV. Forbidden Love
I stood stiffly before Mrs. Beckett, my heart hammering against my ribs like a frantic drum. Her razor-sharp glare pinned me to the floor, each second of silence stretching unbearably long.
Did she already know?
My stomach twisted into knots.
“So, is it true?” she demanded, arms folding tightly across her chest like a shield of judgment.
I swallowed hard, forcing down the lump rising in my throat.
“I… I have no idea what you’re talking about, Mrs. Beckett,” I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper.
Her brow arched, a cruel smirk curling the edges of her mouth.
“Don’t play dumb, Lily.”
“I swear, ma’am, I truly don’t know why I’m here,” I said, willing my voice to stay calm, though every fiber of my being trembled.
“Cut the act,” she snapped, her voice like a whip.
“I’ve heard the rumors about you and my son. I want the truth. Now.”
I froze, every instinct screaming at me to deny, to flee, but I knew there was no escape.
“If you don’t start talking,” she hissed, “you’ll lose everything. Your job. Your reputation. Your future.”
Tears burned at the back of my eyes. Trembling, I forced the truth out.
“It’s true,” I whispered.
“Julian and I… we’re together.”
Her face twisted in disbelief, as if my words were a personal insult.
“What?!” she shrieked, the word slicing through the air like a dagger.
I flinched, instinctively stepping back, but her fury followed me, suffocating and relentless.
“How dare you,” she seethed.
“What do you think you are? Some princess? Some lady fit for my son? You’re nothing. A maid. A speck of dust in a world you don’t belong in.”
Each word hit harder than the last, bruising my spirit.
“I’m sorry, Mrs. Beckett,” I choked out.
“I never meant for this to happen. But the truth is… Julian and I—”
The slap came so fast I barely saw it. A c***k echoed in the room, and pain bloomed across my cheek.
“Shut your filthy mouth!” she spat.
Tears blurred my vision, but I held my ground, refusing to give her the satisfaction of seeing me fall.
“You think my son is in love with you? Don’t flatter yourself. You’re nothing but a passing amusement. When he tires of you — and he will — he’ll marry someone worthy.”
“It’s not true,” I whispered, the words trembling with hurt.
“Julian and I love each other.”
Mrs. Beckett laughed — cold, hollow, heartless.
“You care? You really believe this is anything more than a fling? You’re delusional. Mark my words, Lily — the higher you climb, the harder you’ll fall.”
I lowered my gaze, my heart breaking into pieces.
“Yes, Mrs. Beckett,” I said, my voice barely audible.
She gave a dismissive wave, as if I were nothing more than an insect she could squash at will.
As I turned and left her office, the dam inside me shattered.
Tears spilled down my cheeks, blurring everything, drowning the walls, the floor, the very air I breathed.
All I wanted was Julian. All I needed was him.
But he was away, traveling with his father.
And I was alone.
Utterly alone.
⸻
A few days later…
When Julian finally returned, he wasted no time. His message was simple: Meet me.
Our secret place was tucked behind the estate gardens, a sanctuary built of whispered promises and stolen moments.
“You look upset,” Julian said the moment he saw me, his fingers brushing tenderly against my bruised cheek.
“Aren’t you happy to see me?”
I forced a smile, but it wavered.
“I am. I just…” I hesitated, the words catching painfully in my throat.
“I had a rough time while you were gone.”
He frowned, his thumb lingering on my skin.
“What happened, Lily? Talk to me.”
The floodgates opened.
I told him everything — the confrontation, the threats, the slap.
Every brutal word.
Julian’s jaw clenched, fury flashing in his eyes.
“I’m not surprised,” he muttered darkly.
“I knew she’d lose it if she found out. But I didn’t think she’d hurt you like this.”
He cupped my face in his hands.
“I’ll take care of it. I promise.”
Before he could say more, a sharp voice sliced through the air.
“Who’s going to take care of who?”
I froze, terror coiling in my gut.
Julian turned sharply, pulling me behind him instinctively.
Mrs. Beckett stood there, her presence like a looming storm, her eyes burning with outrage.
“Mom, what are you doing here?” Julian demanded, shielding me.
“I could ask you the same,” she snapped, her voice razor-edged.
“And you, Lily. You dare disobey me again?”
Her fury was palpable, thickening the air until it was almost impossible to breathe.
“Mom, stop this,” Julian said, his voice steady but strained.
“Lily and I are in love. Nothing you say will change that.”
Mrs. Beckett’s face contorted with rage.
“This isn’t love, Julian. It’s a scandal. A stain on our family name!”
She turned her burning gaze back to me.
“You’ve made your choice, Lily. You’re fired. Pack your things. You have ten minutes before security drags you out.”
The words struck like a death sentence. I couldn’t move, couldn’t speak.
But then — Julian’s hand tightened around mine.
And he said the words that shattered everything.
“No way, Mom,” he said quietly but firmly.
“If Lily goes, I go too.”
I gasped, looking up at him in shock, the world tilting beneath my feet.
Mrs. Beckett’s eyes widened, disbelief freezing her in place.
“What did you just say?” she choked out.
Julian’s gaze didn’t waver.
“If she leaves, I leave. I’ll walk away from all of it. The company, the estate… everything.”
I gripped his hand tighter, overwhelmed by the fierce storm of emotions threatening to drown me — love, fear, hope.
Could he really mean it?
Would he really give up everything… for me?
