14 BRYNN Coming in for my shift, I felt like I was riding on a cloud, thrilled that I would have the money to set myself free from all the debt I’d racked up from school. I’d be able to get that all sorted with only a few months of work. It felt as if the tremendous weight I’d been carrying on my shoulders for years was growing less with each passing day. I made decent money with my nursing job. Once my student loans were paid off, I could actually find a better apartment in a better location. The one I currently lived in wasn’t much more than a shack. An efficiency with no kitchen and a tiny bathroom with a standup shower that smelled of mold and mildew, no matter how hard I scrubbed it or how much bleach I poured down the drain. I might even be able to get a new car and make payments
