I'm supposed to interview a billionaire That was the thought running through Haris' mind; she had been called yesterday, telling her to look her best, as she had a very important job the next day. She sat in the cramped office of her editor–Ellara, her eyes scanned the walls, decorated with corny motivational quotes– ‘you can do it' ‘believe in yourself’, the desk was littered with photos of children and dogs A file is dropped in front of her “That's who your dealing with today” Ellaras voice interrupted her train of thought “Nathaniel Donovan? The same one?” “How many do you know off?” Hari almost rolled her eyes at the sarcastic reply “I don't know, I guess I'm just shocked…why again am I the one handling this?, I mean you usually send Cole, he's a bit favored by you” “Well he's in Japan right now, and that doesn't even matter, you were specially requested” This left Hari perplexed “What? Why?” “I was hoping you'd tell me actually, but that's the message I was given” Ellara was losing her patience, not that she had a lot “Alright I guess” “Just do you best, this guy’s aloof, try not to mess this up, this is big for us… it could change your life” Ellara wasn't exaggerating, an interview of this scale could make or break a career, but Hari wasn't sure which one she’d get. **** Hari got out of the taxi and walked into the building from the front entrance The place was grand, with ceiling-to-floor windows and a marble floor, just for the lobby “Good day, ma'am. Welcome to Donovan group’s HQ.How can I help you ?” the warm greeting by the receptionist made her feel more at ease “Hi, um, I'm Hari…” “Hari Carter? From CandidMedia?” “Um, yes, how do you know who I am? “ she said with a nervous laugh; she wasn't used to feeling important “Mr Donovan has been waiting for you; he cancelled all his morning appointments” “Oh, is that so? — he must really be excited for this interview”, that came out with another nervous chuckle “Oh no, quite the opposite actually, he hates interviews, but I guess.. .not this one” “Um, okay” Hari could guess what this was:probably another rich guy, making business moves; he wants the press on his side, a tale as old as time “You can go meet him now, he's on the top floor” the bubbly receptionist says while gesturing to the elevator “Okay thanks” The response was accompanied by a smile not reaching the eyes as Hari made her way to the elevator She pressed the button and a ding sound was made, Hari caught her reflection in the glass part of the elevator, she had worn a dark blue pantsuit and pulled her long black hair into a neat bun with her curtain bangs framing her face. She looked good, better than she had in a long time. She repeatedly tapped her foot against the floor, trying to calm her nerves as the elevator climbed each floor. Don't panic, he's just a person like you….. a very rich person. Soon enough, the steel door opened revealing a dark and cold office, a steel table in the middle, two leather chairs on either side, on one of them was seated Nathaniel Donovan and holy s**t, he was not what she was expecting. The only piece of information on this guy was articles written about him, no picture, no face to the name Hari had expected some average looking asshole but no, in front of her sat a specimen, a chiseled face, broad shoulders, cold icy blue eyes, his dark brown hair was combed back except some stubborn strands but the most alluring thing about this man was his utter confidence, it lingered in the way he sat, the way he breathed, it was obvious that he always got his way, that he had true power. He made eye contact with Hari, barely acknowledging her presence “You're late” he said in a monotonous tone Hari glanced at her watch, she was five minutes early, the one thing she got right was that Nathaniel Donovan truly was an asshole.
