ODDS ARE GOOD

CHAPTER 6

The next day, I woke up to my mom whispering near my ears. 

"Hey honey"

"Up for your school?"

"Are you feeling okay?"

I groaned and squinted my eyes. I saw my mom smiling, with a squinty eye. 

"Uhmm mom"

"I'll go"

"I feel better now"

She hummed and kissed me good morning. I smiled and arouse from my bed. I exhaled deeply and stood beside my bed holding my blanket. I cleaned my bed and dropped the pillow covers and blanket for the laundry. I pulled off the curtain letting the sun in. But, unfortunately the weather was dull. It was cold out. I shrugged down and turned on the geyser. I did some stretch to feel warm and quite better. 

I inhaled and exhaled. I prepared for my school. First, I packed my bag with the books and notes and went downstairs. My mom kept my lunch ready at the table and she was preparing for my breakfast. She smiled brightly and gestured time. I gasped and took my lunch box down my bag and tossed it on the couch. I went upstairs and took a bath. 

I applied moisturiser and shoved in a turtle neck and a baggy jean. I took my phone, climbed down and saw my mom waiting at the dining for brekky. I waved at sat on the dining chair.

"So, Honey!"

I scoffed and imitated.

She flustered her brows at me. 

I had a sandwich and some fries on the sides. I downed some avocado juice. She gave me, my supplements and tablets. It was quite more this time because of last day's trouble. I sighed and gulped it down with a glass of water. 

"I'll pick you up today" my mom said while packing her stuffs.

I nodded.

I took my bag and waited on the doorway. She came with her handbag and tossed the car key and house key. I moved out and she locked the door.

We got in the car and started on the streets. She started the conversation.

"Don't stress yourself"

"You ain't wanna faint again"

"Do you?" She frowned.

I smiled and nodded no.

Mom, I'll be on the gate at 2" 

She hummed. I took out my phone for updates. I hit the front and startled up when my mom braked suddenly.

"Moomm!!!"

"What's wrong?"

She hung her head outside the window and shooed looking at the front. I raised from my seat and looked out. 

It was a sheep. It ran towards someone's else garden. She turned back and saw me if I was okay.

"I'm sorryy Charleyyyy"

"Are you hurt?" she touched my head.

I nodded no since the hit wasn't that big. She exhaled and started the engine. 

I waved my hand and got in my school. Everyone seemed concerned. Some of my course mates, whom I don't even know came up and checked in if I was okay. I replied them all with a smile.

"I'm okay"

"Thank you so much"

I took out my general studies book and kept the others in the locker. I shoved the books in my bag and slung it around my shoulders. I locked my locker and started walking to my class.

"Charleyyy" I heard a familiar voice screaming behind far away from me. I turned around to see Jake. 

"Hey Jakeee!" I shouted back. 

He gestured me to wait and I stood at a corner without disturbing the rushing hallway. He came up running. He was nearer and I could hear him breathing hard. 

I stopped him and asked him to cool down.

"You okay?"

He chuckled and nodded. I gave my water bottle to him and he pushed it gently.

"No"

"I'm cool"

I scoffed.

 He slouched on the wall and waited for seconds.

"Oof!"

"How are you Charley?" 

I chuckled.

"I'm good Jake"

"Why'd you have to run so fast to show up?"

He sighed.

"I heard everything from Mia"

"What is wrong with you?"

"Why did you stress out too much for an act?"

"Huh?"

I felt bad. I know they all love me. But, I'mma human. I gotta stress myself to be the best. I exhaled sharply. 

"Jake.."

"I'm tired of my body being weak"

"I'm tired to always stand out as diseased"

"I just wanna prove that I'm more than weak"

He frowned and sighed. 

"You're best Charley"

"It will be okay soon"

"But don't work out too much because you're getting hurt"

He spreaded his arms to hug. I chuckled and went forward and hugged him.

"Everything will be alright" he whispered in my ears. 

I nodded.

"So, up for class?"

He rolled off his eyes.

"I have my practicals today" 

He looked at his watch and gasped.

"I gotta go now, Charley"

"Will catch you up later!"

"Don't worry"

He started jogging to his class.

I smiled and waved my hands.

"Yeah"

"All the best Jakey!"

He peaced out. 

I started to my class. I saw Olivia and Christine in the corridor. They both came up smiling.

"How are you feeling today, Charlotte?"

I smiled and nodded.

"I'm really good today"

"Thank you:)"

They both smiled. Someone was calling them from the corner of the corridor. They waved and left there. 

I got in my class and saw Mia on her phone. I sat next to her. She startled up.

"Why'd you have to come to school today?"

"You're totally insane Charley!"

She crossed her arms and rolled her eyes off.

I scoffed.

"I'm totally okay now"

"No worries Mia"

She sighed. I hung my bag on the hook attached to the side of our benches. I slouched along my chair and exhaled sharply. 

Our classes started. 

We got our break. I took my lunch box and started with Mia to the canteen. 

"I'm not that hungry"

"I'm just gonna go with avocados" 

I nodded. She went to the section and got a avocado juice.

We both sat in one of the empty tables. We started eating. Someone tapped my shoulder gently.

"Hey, can I sit here?"

I turned back and it was Anakin.

I gasped and smiled. I moved away a little for him to have my seat. He was conscious about my existense.

"Are you okay Charlotte?"

"I'm sorry that I asked it late as a friend"

"You scared me"

I chuckled and took a bite of my muffin.

"I'm really doing great, Anakin"

"Thank you!"

"You don't have to get scared" I winked.

He sighed and started eating his salad. 

I saw Mia kinda had a flirty look on him. I scoffed at her and it made her choke.

I handed out a glass of water to her in a mocking way, leaving him confuse. 

"So, how's your class going?"

"You got many new friend I suppose?"

He looked at me and nodded.

"Pretty much good than yesterday" 

"And yeah, I think I'm making many new friends" he pointed at Mia.

Mia gasped and chuckled.

"Oh, I'm sorry that I didn't introduce"

"I'm Mia"

Anakin smiled.

"I'm Anakin"

They both shook off their hands to bloom their friendship.

The bell rang.

"Okay Anakin"

"Will catch up later!"

"Any help, reach me out"

He nodded and we both said our goodbyes. I pulled Mia to stop flirting and we headed to our class.

I was waiting for my mom to pick me up. Mia had her soccer ball practice. I saw my mom's car being pulled up opposite to the traffic signal. I crossed the road and got in the car.

"How was your day honey?"

I threw my bag to the back seat.

"Same old same old" I said careless. 

She chuckled.

"Teens today!" she rolled her eyes and started the engine.

"Uhmm"

"We'll be attending a birthday party today, Charley"

"It's one of my clients daughter"

"We gotta go for that around 5 or 6"

I hummed and nodded. 

I took my bag and got out of the car. I waited for my mom to unlock the door. We both got in. Mom started working on her chores. I climbed up to my room and got refreshed.
